Coming Full Circle: Ancient Teachings For A Modern World

Rate this book
"In this book...I have the great honor of introducing you to a number of women about whom I have not previously written, as well as sharing with you additional stories with several of them. Each new story...can be applied to help us move into harmony and a state of grace with the world around us...and the articles are designed to make the wisdom of the Sisterhood of the Shield more accessible in our daily lives."

Lynn Andrews has gathered stories from the most profound teachings she has received over the years from the women of the Sisterhood of the Shield, members of an ancient shamanic society deeply embedded in native cultures and traditions all over the world. These shamanic, philosophical, and inspirational teachings are now condensed into one very important book. Her unique and eloquent narrative style reveals how the application of ancient healing techniques can relate to the modern world for over thirty years, interweaving teachings into aspects of universal truths. Coming Full Circle with Lynn reminds us that there is no beginning and no end to the circle of life. In this time of great fear and confusion in the world, she shows how her teachers have led her- and by extension all of us-to confront her deepest fears and accept without hesitation that there is a spiritual solution to every one of life's problems.

Coming Full Circle is Lynn Andrews' best work to date. The now familiar characters are joined by several new ones, adding a touch of color to an already verdant landscape. Lynn proffers a world of mystery and adventure that engages an inquiring mind, expands a clement heart, and lifts a seeking spirit to a higher consciousness. These new stories embellish and deepen the ageless wisdom she has so generously shared in her previous books.

Lynn is a compelling writer who details her personal experiences with unabridged transparency, in order that her readers might have full access to the teachings she has integrated and now offers to the world. Whether one is merely looking for a good read or on a quest for spiritual growth, Coming Full Circle is a requisite cornucopia. Be prepared to be enlightened!

“Modern” Westerners consider science the only answer to understanding the world; and religions and spiritual manifestations in general are treated with contempt and as fraud. But in all the centuries there have been people who communicate with the spiritual and gain wisdom from this communication.

In all religions and philosophies there are mystics. But in ancient cultures, those who rise in the spiritual world are called shamans.

Lynn Andrews tells us about a very important spiritual part: feminine spirituality, the land and the teachings of women shamans. Many of the stories they tell seem to be the product of hallucinations and perhaps power plants.

However, the interpretations and the acquired wisdom show great spiritual learning. I thank whoever recommended this book to me, my medications have improved since I started it.

While the author claims her books to be nonfiction, read them as fiction. There was a few gems in this book but the part about the wooden boy just bored me beyond belief...

I first read this book in 2012, when it first came out. But like so many other of Lynn Andrews' books, I picked it up again this year and read it again. It was an even better read the second time around!

Lynn writes with a candor and transparency that allows us to take her experiences and make them our own. In this book, we revisit with many of our favorite teachers from her earlier books, Agnes, Ruby, Zoila and Twin Dreamers, along with women we haven't yet met. Why write another book in this series, and why now, almost 25 years after the original, "Medicine Woman" came out?

In today's world, in a new millenium from that in which Lynn began her own studies and writing, things are more out of balance than ever. We become more polarized as a people, drawing hard lines between what we perceive to be right or wrong, good or evil. So much of the world is in opposition, and Lynn's books help us to step back, to re-examine our beliefs and our traditions, and urges us to find balance within ourselves. If there is conflict in the world, Lynn asks, where has that conflict begun in me, and what can I do to heal it first within myself?

The ancient teachings of the Sisterhood of the Shields transcend time, and help us to understand ourselves as truly human, and as totally interconnected to each other and the Earth. They are not the traditions of any one tribe of indigenous peoples, but rather are the teachings of the Divine Feminine within, and show the importance of balancing the male and female energies within us all. With that balance, we can indeed bring balance to the earth, and between ourselves as people.

You can read one of Lynn's books easily and enjoy the stories. This time through, I spent more time, finding the teachings between her words, the deeper meanings in the stories she tells. Each time I read one of Lynn's books, I learn more about myself, and move closer into self-awareness and true Balance.

It's been years since I read any books by Lynn Andrews, so this was a real treat for me. I spent my college years and early adulthood reading her books, which all relate her experiences and her personal growth with shaman teachers around the world. In this book, Andrews revisits some old teachers, and introduces a couple of new ones. My only complaint about this book is that it feels a little disjointed, since each chapter features a small exchange with a teacher, and then has discussion on a larger teaching from the experience. Andrews' other books each focused on a whole set of experiences with a teacher, so this book of short, unconnected experiences left me wanting more of each story. Still, I basked in Andrews' warm, compassionate voice and the integrity and vulnerability with which she checks herself in her work. I enjoyed reading this book enough that I just might have to back and read all her old books again.

All I can say is if you love Lynn Andrews you will love this book. In her other 19 books she is with one teacher, but in this book you get a taste of teaching from all around the globe. Wonderful!
