Kay Glass was born in Pottstown, Pennsylvania in 1985. She currently lives in Delaware with her husband, two children, and a house full of pets. When she's not writing she can most commonly be found with either her Kindle, a paperback, or a hardback book in her hands. In her spare time she likes spending time on the beach with her family, swimming, and playing video games.
I really enjoyed reading Love Bite. It is a refreshing take on vampires, and I say that having read a ton of vampire stories. It does start out a bit slow, and the jumping around between time frames was confusing at first. Later on the story took off and it became a very compelling read. I enjoyed the writing style & character development. I also liked that two of the main characters are in a lesbian relationship. In my opinion there aren't enough LGBT relationships in today's fiction. That said, there were a few things I didn't care for.
What I didn't like: There are several instances throughout the story of misused words. For example, when it should say "her" it says "he." This could easily be fixed with proof-reading & may not bother other readers at all. Also I found Diandra's speech to be a bit formal considering her age & background. Again, this may not bother other readers. There was one incident in the book that actually brought this down to a 3 star rating for me. ***MINOR SPOILER***At one point Diandra's husband Jonah (thus far portrayed as a dream husband) seriously physically assaults Diandra, while she is pregnant no less. Later, Diandra finds out that Jonah was not nearly the angelic man she always thought he was (physical assault aside). When Diandra learns that Jonah is to be harshly punished for his assault on her she defends him, claiming that he was acting on instinct the way a jealous husband would & insists he not be punished. This didn't ring true for me. First, while a jealous husband my consider bodily harm, actually assaulting his wife is a whole different matter. I don't buy that he would hurt Diandra out of some jealous instinct. She seems too intelligent to really believe that either. Also, the way she handles it sends entirely the wrong message to women who may find themselves the victim of a physical assault or abuse. If someone hurts you physically, it IS their fault and they should be held accountable.***END OF SPOILER***
All in all I found this to be a very interesting, unique read. By the end I found myself ready to dive into book two of the series. I can't wait to find out what happens to these characters! If you enjoy a good vampire story, definitely check out Love Bite!
*Note: A copy of this book was provided to me by the author free of charge in exchange for my honest review.*
I think this is a realistic story of loss, love and adaptation....
"Love Bite" is the first book in the "Just One Bite" series. Diandra's husband, Jonah, is killed the day she discovers that she's pregnant. Diandra befriends the homeless ex-cop, Lizabeth, and takes her in and helps her get on her feet. Turns out that Jonah isn't as dead as thought but a vampire who comes back to the house and, in a fit of rage, turns Diandra. What will this mean for the unborn baby and Diandra and Lizabeth's budding relationship?
Normally I can make an excuse for an author saying, "This is the first book of a series so she/he is getting to know the characters themselves." No need in this case. I think these are characters that Glass has been working on for a long time and knows them well so she's able to give us a very clear view of who they are in the novella form.
A lot of this story is Diandra losing Jonah and falling for Lizabeth. In a lot of romance stories you have that air rushing out of the lungs when they meet and instant attraction where you close the book and say, "Yeah, that's not gonna last." In the case of Diandra and Lizabeth we have a believable relationship. No one is perfect and they build on friendship and lead to love. The connection was well written and presented in a way that the reader could buy.
There are graphic sexual scenes. If you cannot see yourself reading lesbian sex, this series is likely not for you. There is a fair amount of sex in the first novel - though there's a lot going on overall so, really, if a reader is adverse to the coupling, it's something that could be skipped over with little lost from the story.
I do have a complaint in the first novel in that too much was made of Diandra's size. We get it, she's overweight. Her size was mentioned over and over again. I get why it was mentioned as she dropped 40 lbs when she turned into a vampire (where do I sign up for that weight loss program? Eternal life AND weight loss?) but it really felt like Glass wasn't sure we would remember for when the weight loss happened.
This was a good, solid, read. I suggest it be read with the second book because as a whole they get five stars. The second "Bitten by Regret" is REALLY good.
Love Bite is a wonderfully different story for the vampire genre. I love that Kay Glass makes the main character a "real" woman who's dealt with weight issues and infertility. Sometimes, when a character is too perfect I find myself irritated by them instead of strongly relating to them. This was not the case here.
Diandra is your average woman in her late twenties, who's just realized she and her husband of nine years have finally conceived. That good news is shattered by the sudden death of her husband Jonah. Enter Lizbeth, the homeless woman who discovers Jonah's body and also happens to be a former cop. As the two get to know each other and Diandra helps Lizbeth get back on her feet, they form a special friendship.
Things are starting to look up for Diandra as she carries the baby and falls in love with Lizbeth. Only one problem, her very jealous, supposedly dead husband shows up at the house and lashes out at his wife in jealousy of her new lover. After the attack she's got a load of other problems to deal with..a new baby, blood bags, fangs, and a suave new shape-shifting vampire of a mentor named Eamon. Let the fun begin!
I really enjoyed this book. The author does a wonderful job creating an engrossing story line and cultivating the relationship between Diandra and Lizbeth. She uses just the right amount of humor in her writing, and the result is an entertaining escape that reading a book should always be. I'm anxious to start the next book in the series to see what the future holds for these characters.
I would probably categorize this as a novella since it is less than 40,000 words. This work was so well polished and edited that I would not have been surprised to find that it was presented by one of the big publishing houses with teams of beta and proof readers and editors. I did not find one misspelled word, incorrect word usage, or run-on sentence in the whole thing. It is rare to see that level of professionalism in an indie author's first published work. The characters are beautifully described and I imagined Diandra as an Adelle type. Jonah, though he was only in the first chapter of the book, was a man I could understand loving. I can see why Diandra is so destroyed when he is killed. She is young, widowed, pregnant...it couldn't get much worse for her. At least he left her with financial security. She starts to see that he might not be who she thought he was. How could he have left her so much when other cop friends were struggling to make ends meet? Lizbeth comes into the story and figures all that out. What starts as a friendship, and an odd one at that, turns into something more. This is a lesbian romance with f/f scenes for adults only. I would warn vampire lovers - this is not the normal vampire romance. There are no vamp love scenes and no blood drinking. The series is called Just One Bite and it is about how so many people's lives can be changed with a single bite. This book sets up the series and I think the next one will be more vampire heavy. If that is what you are looking for, and I know I am, ON TO BOOK 2!
Although this is a short story, I really enjoyed it. I'm a sucker for a good love story, especially between two people that truly deserve to find happiness. Diandra is a recent widow who is also pregnant and Lizbeth is a homeless woman who found Diandra's husband Jonah's body. Their unlikely friendship takes a romantic turn as they help each other through pain, greif, and heartache. Diandra's life is forever changed when she's bit by a vampire and goes into labor all at once. With Lizbeth's help, as well as the help of Eamon, the vampire mentor assigned to train Diandra and help her acclimate to this new life, Diandra transitions beautifully into her new life. All is well until Diandra and Lizbeth uncover the truth behind Jonah's murder and discover that not only was he not "permanently" killed but that he was the vampire who bit Diandra. They also discover that Jonah wasn't the hero cop everyone thought he was, but instead, one of the leaders of a drug ring in Bethany Beach. Although short, this story is full of action and OMG's! A definite must read!
"Love Bite" (Just One Bite, #1) by Kay Glass is a vampire novel you don't want to miss. The first installment of three (so far) that depicts a well adjusted and happy couple that in the course of a day is shattered beyond redemption. The husband, Jonah is killed before finding out that his wife, Diandra, is pregnant. Jonah has been attacked and inadvertently turned into a vampire. A short time passes and when he makes his way back home, his wife has moved on, and taken a female lover. In his anger, he bites Diandra and turns her too. The subsequent misadventures are well thought out and are emotionally intense. The characters have been engineered to either make you love or hate them and before you realize what's happened, the book has become personal. I got involved, and any book that has the capacity to do that is a must read! I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Great work, Kay!
A very good start to what appears to be an exciting series. I am not a fan of gay relationships, but I was intrigued by the blurb so decided to give this story a try. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The sex scenes were a bit graphic and may not be suited for readers who are not fans of lesbian relationships. It started out a bit slowly, however it picked up the pace by the third chapter. Love Bite is a mixture of paranormal romance, action and suspense.
Love Bite is not your typical vampire story. There is no drinking of blood from veins and no love scenes between vampires. This story depicts how a single bite from a vampire can bring about major changes in the victim’s life.
The main character, Diandra was not your typical female heroine. She struggled with weight issues all her life; however she was not insecure about it. Her husband, Jonah, loved her very much and he accepted her the way she was and did not try to change her. They had been trying to have a child for the nine years they have been married so it’s quite understandable how devastated she must have been that just as she was preparing to tell her husband the good news he was murdered. During this time she became friends with Lisbeth who was homeless and was the one who was credited for discovering her husband’s body. Lisbeth’s dramatic entrance in Diandra’s life brought about changes she never saw coming. Diandra helped Lisbeth to get back on her feet and Lisbeth in return helped Diandra during her grieving process. During this time a romantic bond developed between the two. I loved how the author portrayed Lisbeth. She was a fighter and not afraid to back down from danger. Diandra on the other hand was a bit naïve and gullible. I found it hard to believe that she actually thought her husband was able to maintain their lavish lifestyle on a cop’s salary.
The storyline was very interesting. I like the way how the friendship between the two female characters was developed however I felt that the romance between them was a bit contrived.
Overall this was a good read and I look forward to reading the second installment.
Book was good, not great. The storyline was interesting. I found it to move so fast between scenes that it wasn't as believable to me. The second half of the book was much better. There's action, mystery, friendship & love. I found the relationship between Dria & Lizbeth, though believable in their friendship, not in their love. I do think this is a potentially very good series, the author writes very well, though this book was filled with many typos. All in all good read, and jumping right in to the next one.
I really loved this story! If you are looking for a very different look at vampires then this is for you. From the very beginning I was engrossed in this story with the happenings in it. I don’t want to give any spoilers because that would take away from the reading experience of this story. Let’s just say that I had many…OH NO! moments and also YES! moments! I am now looking forward to reading more of this series by the wonderfully talented Kay Glass who has roped me into this series with this first novella!
A good read, but not the best vamp romance books out there. I found I got a little lost chapter to chapter as the story line was very fast moving. I also got a little uncomfortable with the revamped scenes as the female on female sex was not noted in the description. That said, I still had to read to find out what happened and started on book 2 ASAP
Finished reading this last night and was glad I did. To me it started off a bit rough, but smoothed out towards the end. Couple times got confused in the beginning as to what was going on, but on the whole it's a great book and I look forward to reading the next two. Love the take on vampires and I'm not much of a vampire type reader. Keep up the writing, Kay. :)
I really enjoyed reading Love Bite, it was a fast, easy read and a fresh take on the vampire genre. After something of a slow confused start the story found its legs and became an enjoyable read despite a clumsily handled domestic violence situation. I’m not committed to others in the series, but the characters are interesting enough for me to recommend the book.
This story threw me for a loop in a good way. A pregnant woman loses her husband, while grieving falls in love with a woman, finds out her husband is not dead but a vampire, and gives birth to a daughter with unusual powers. This was only part 1 of 4 in the series!
This book had a good baseline story. Just kind of felt like it was all over the place. Touched on a lot of different storylines, and had a lot going on. All in all pretty good book.
