I, appropriately, nicked this off my parents shelf in 2019 as i need some light reading material.

its probably only going to be of interest to a New Zealand reader. It gets a bit repetitive but I actually liked the way the stories overlap, even if it makes it seem as though there are only 5 detectives in the whole of New Zealand. . It is kind of "old-school" stories as each detective "really enjoyed by 40 years but I despair for the modern state of policing". The odd thing is that all the story-tellers seem to stay well clear of any involvement in some of the darkest incompetent/corrupt cases that forever scar the New Zealand police (Arther Allen Thomas, David Bain, ...) Instead this is all the somewhat light hearted stuff of looking for and finding petty criminals drinking in the local pub.

But its a very easy read at a chapter a night before lights out.

Somewhat repetitive, but contains a lot of interesting first-hand testimony about crime and investigation in New Zealand that's not generally available elsewhere.
