Whoa! & Wow!

Book three in the Brody’s Ghost series by Mark Crilley shocked me a bit with the dark and creepies! Mr. Crilley captured the mind of a serial killer with two extremely dark, ugly and powerful images. Two pages that continue to haunt me today. Hell…sometimes Hollywood can’t do that in two hours. A very different vibe lives and breathes in this installment, but one that captivated me to the bone. *chills up & down my spine*

The big reveal in this story will come as no real surprise to readers. I saw that development coming back in book one, but it didn’t disrupt my enjoyment of the book in the least. The twist was a pivotal and necessary string to pull the mystery together and tug on my heartstrings.

A suspense filled visit to Brody’s world that left me on the edge of my seat! The tone and atmosphere in this series can change from fun and witty to dark and scary in a blink of an eye or turn of the page.

Can’t wait for more!

A review, but first some backstory:

I started this series a whopping four years ago. There was this bind up of the first two books at the Scholastic Book Fair and I jumped at the opportunity to buy it. That was near the end of my weeaboo phase, and I had been watching Mark Crilley's manga tutorials on YouTube since grade five, which was the start of my weeaboo phase. I loved the first two volumes, but I never continued on with the series for a couple reasons.

First: I just couldn't find the next books! Every single time I went to my local Chapters store I always searched for Brody's Ghost, but they never had them in stock. I could have talked to an employee and asked them to order the next book for me but... well, obviously I didn't. And I never ordered online back then either. Those were simple times.

Second: It was just plain confusing. I didn't even know that my copy was a bind up until almost 2 years ago when I joined Goodreads. I went crazy with the scan tool on the Goodreads app and scanned ALL my books. When I got to my volume of Brody's Ghost this popped up: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1.... Brody's Ghost, Book 1 (Brody's Ghost #1-2)!?!?!?!?! WHAT!? Back then it didn't even have a cover on Goodreads. I was in distress. This whole time I had been searching for the second book but... I actually needed the third?! That also confused me. So yeah. I just never got around to buying the third volume.... UNTIL NOW!!

So now that you know my life story, on with the review!

I still watch Crilley's videos to this day, and it's really weird but funny to be reading something that he has written. While reading it I imagined him sitting at a desk with paper in front of him and a pencil in his hand, thinking up all the ideas I was then reading. I quite liked the subtle sense of humor and even laughed out loud a couple times. Sometimes because of Crilley, other times it was just me imagining something silly a character could have said to make the situation funny. *cough* Read my reading notes to see what I mean. Ahem.

The story was interesting and it ended kind of intense, kind of cliffhanger-y. But it doesn't matter because I have all the books now! Something I never knew was how small these are. They're short and skinny, quite the contrast to my taller and thicker bind up. For some reason I always thought (hoped) the rest would match it, but I knew they were going to be quite skinny considering my bind up isn't super thick to begin with. So I feel like it would have been annoying to read these as they were coming out just because of how short they are and how fast they read.

So yeah :D. I got the last three books staring at me from my shelf so I better get on them.

There were some parts of this volume that I didn't find interesting, but when it came to the scenes where Brody was doing his death echoes, I was intrigued and really enjoyed them. There were also some instances where I found Talia to be incredibly annoying and could've been done without. The ending was a bit surprising to me because it wasn't something that I paid attention to in the beginning and that was probably why I didn't really see it coming, so I'm interested to see how that goes over in the fourth volume.
Overall, I thought this was an okay volume and am still looking forward to reading the next one.

This was awesome! The story development is gives me Goosebumps.

Awesome!!
The story development and well planned plot is what caught my interest.
I chose to give it a five star because after a long days I got a shock from the plot twist.
I recommend it for anyone from the 90s. And the young generation.
I really think we should make an anime or cartoon or whatever you wanna call it, out of it. It's a great story!

Way better than the first two. Very suspenseful. Particularly, I liked the ending and the confrontation scene with Brody's ex. I think there was a lot of detail put into the slides in terms of drawing facial expressions etc.

Brody's Ghost is a graphic novel series centered around a sad man named Brody who finds out he can see ghosts (hence the title...). After a bad breakup with his girlfriend, Nicole, he lets his life get into ruin, until one day, while he is on the sidewalk busking for change, he sees a ghost. Later on, he finds out the ghost is named Talia, and she has a mission for him. She introduces him to an unusual mentor that helps him get his life back into shape and gives him purpose in the world.

I read books 1-3, as that is all that's been published as of right now, and it was AMAZING! I couldn't put it down. The drawing style is quite good, and there are artist notes at the end of each volume that explain the thought behind many of the characters and locations in the book. The story ends on a cliffhanger at the end of each book, and I'm so mad I have to wait until at least March to find out what happens next!!

In this volume, I don't think I can ever explain how much I love the world Mark Crilley has created. It was so beautifully designed. This volume ended in such a cliffhanger that I was glad when I bought it I bought the next one too, unfortunately they did not have the last two volumes so I might have to wait and suffer a little bit till I get my hands on them.
In this volume, the revelations are just crazy, am I the only one who felt betrayed and lied to by Talia too?
I love Brody so much that I hated Talia and Nicole and everyone who's treating him so bad!

Way to go Matk Crilley, continue playing with my heart like that, man!

I've finally gotten my hands on the rest of the Brody's Ghost series by Mark Crilley, and so the rest of my night will consist of trying to finish the series! I really like where the story is headed - the end of volume 3 took a bit of a twist, so I'm very glad that I picked up the rest of the books so I can marathon-read them all! I'm eager to see where Brody and Talia's story goes, so I'm going to dive into volume 4. Definitely recommend!

Mark Crilley is just one of my favorite artists to publish. Not only does he draw incredibly engaging panels, but he writes a compelling story to go along with it. It felt like not much was happening until we get to the pennies and the extra file. Whaaaaaat? Where's volume 4?!?! I must read it now!!

Luckily, after racing through the last edition I had this to hand to find out what happens next. There are some great twists in the story for Brody and Talia. I love the artwork and the way the author/illustrator gives you insight into how he developed the story and the various changes he made or considered as he was putting it together.

This series keeps on getting better and better. And each issue leaves you needing and craving the next volume.

I am actually glad that I waited until the series was completed to read it, since I don't think I could handle waiting until the next one had came out while he worked on them.
