Finless

Rate this book
Sarah, Nathaniel, and Lily resist unconditional love as they feed primal desires. Not believing the possibility of having it all, they struggle to believe that they, the “least of these”, rightfully deserve a lifetime of love and happiness-- Especially with how graphically and unconventionally they choose to express themselves. Each of the characters comes to realize how tortured their lives have become. Violent images, dreams, and actions occur as they spiral downward into their dark lives. As they each reach a personal impasse, they must decide how they will make their lives better. In the process, they must also mend broken intimate relationships with the ones they love. This erotic, edgy tale describes and embraces elements of s/M lifestyle. Their personal proclivities are not condemned. If a fish does not have fins, it becomes lifeless and sinks helplessly to the bottom of the water.Humans are exactly the same way.

Davee Jones began a career in the counseling field with her M.Ed. She then diversified and began work for the federal government. The dryness of the day to day assignments fostered the desire for her to do something more creative. Everything between the covers comes from the heart.
Now avidly writing, she has several other books in progress. She has books that draw from eroticism, romance, suspense, drama, and sometimes comedy. A few of her books garner only one flame, but, others will secure all five flames in the heat index.

This review comes from Caitlin Clevenger, reviewer at mortonsyndicate.com, a site authored by Brent Morton. He reviews music, books, and other good stuff.

Following is a synopsis of the review:

"Davee Jones’ surprisingly light, erotic novel, Finless, opens with the, “Transformation” of Sarah..."

"Sarah smacks her head on a coffee table in Nathaniel’s office and after coming to makes the first obvious move. Jones leaves little to the imagination in this steamy scene."

"...Again, Jones’ leaves little to the imagination. Her erotic scenes would leave one relaxed and sensually lightheaded."

"If it is possible for someone to write a light story about whips and rough sex, Davee Jones has done it. Erotic and peppered with religious transformation, Finless is a sexy novel one can enjoy reading out loud to a lover."

I had read another book by the same author and I had enjoyed it, so I thought it would be nice to read one more, thinking it was going to be equally enjoyable. The truth is that I haven't hated the book, but it wasn't definitely as entertaining as I was expecting it to be. I should know better as to start reading any book with high expectations...

In my opinion, the characters were kind of flat and would have needed a bit more of development. Yes, they change along the story, but the change is kind of predictable, and it doesn't convey a strong emotion. I was like, "Oh, now you are like this? Meh..." and "Oh, now you have become that? Meh..." The main characters in the story fit the stereotypical idea that anybody could have about people who get involved in sub/dom relationships. I would have liked to see more complexity.

The story had potential, but it felt way too short to me. A guy who enjoys his life as a dominator until his life changes after meeting a new sub, who makes him realise how wrong he was in his relationship with his previous sub. It could have been great, but it is just meh. The writing is not bad, but it would have needed one more round of editing and proofreading. Dear authors, when you hit the publish button, the book has to be as polished and perfect as possible. I can understand one typo, but no more.

Despite a few grammar and wordiness issues, Davee has crafted a fascinating character-driven journey into a realm with which I'm pretty sure most people aren't familiar. She does it with class and clarity, and with compassion for her characters -- even when they are unsympathetic.

At heart, strange, exotic and lurid though it is, FINLESS is a story about redemption, reaffirmation, and most of all love. Well worth reading.

When I got done reading Finless I had to take a moment and breathe...... It is an compelling story with a lot of emotion. Nathaniel, Lily, and Sarah relationships are so scarred and bruised I didn't know if they was ever going to see what was right there in front of them. Then you put Isaac in the mix of all the madness. I loved it. If you have not read Finless yet, then you are missing out.

Who were the main characters here? It started of with it being Sarah and her master then it was Lily? This book was so unorganised, written terribly and seriously who the hell talks like the characters? They were so formal and fake!
This book just didn't do it for me at all!
