I loved that this long-time ACIM enthusiast honestly described how her earlier interpretations of ACIM have changed, sometimes dramatically. This may inspire other followers of the Course to listen to Holy Spirit within -- to use her example and begin to loosen the typical herd mentality and need to follow human leaders that's so prevalent in this community. What does the Course say to us, within ourselves, regardless of charismatic leaders' opinions (which will change)?

The warm, gentle, and fun personality of the author shined through.

However, the text unintentionally also revealed the head-based self-created hell disguised as "having found the one True Faith" that also shows up quite often in this community (as it does in any spiritual community.)

Here's the hell version that showed up most for me in this book as I read the text:
- The book expressed the predictable viewpoint that the Course is the best, fastest way to God (ever heard any other religion/spirituality claim that?)
- The Course is dictated by Jesus (as were hundreds of other spiritual viewpoints besides Christianity that claim Jesus as their author)
- Reincarnation is an ego-created hellish merry-go-round that continues the death cycle. No problem with that opinion until...
- We can't get out of the reincarnation trap until we awaken and overcome death while in a healthy body in 3-D. Nothing wrong with the invitation to overcome death that way -- what a joyous state to reach for those who dislike how death operates here. But once we "have to or we'll return to never-ending reincarnation hell" -- we've just turned reincarnation into a hell we can never get out of.
- Yet we have to believe reincarnation exists, or our beloved Course is a fraud -- it would mean Helen and other Course leader favorites have never had a past live with Jesus (along with the other million who claim the same thing.)
- So, there's only one way out of hell-reincarnation, and it's never getting sick and dying. Forget the idea that reincarnation itself doesn't have to be embraced and therefore we are already free.

And ironically, it's the Course that frees me from this latest book's hell story that reincarnation can't be escaped unless what seems insurmountable -- conquering death itself -- is achieved.

The Course itself says the only reason to embrace the reincarnation belief is if it brings one peace that there is life beyond the physical body.

But some people don't find reincarnation a peaceful idea. It doesn't bring peace. Yet Course followers who don't find the idea of reincarnating into this existence peaceful keep believing in it, anyway. They've now let the ego into the idea of reincarnation. Now they HAVE to believe it. The belief has them in its grasp.

Perhaps if we knew reincarnation is not something we have to return to if we don't conquer death, and we'll still find God just as quickly, we'd actually find peace.

Perhaps if the idea of conquering death in a 3-D healthy body was an invitation of just one of many ways to return to God at the same speed as all of the other ways, we would embrace it as a joyful experience to aspire to instead of condensed desperation of absolutely having to do it -- or else return to reincarnation-hell again.

(And by the way, the Course is not the only spiritual arena where 3-D death is challenged and told does not have to exist).

The minute any viewpoint is claimed to be the fastest and the best, it becomes exclusive and separating. Surely we can have our individual favorites that work best for us and share our delight in them, but to claim our favorite, our most "special" one as the best is old school energy. Nor is it any more loving to patronize other viewpoints by saying all paths lead to God (meaning they'll eventually, finally come around and agree with mine, meanwhile I, the special one, am way ahead of the game.)

Another revealing quality of the book that shows the author's entrapment in the head these people dwell in is the excessive repetitiveness of the text. Certain concepts were repeated over and over and over again as though never mentioned before. If there was a content editor, much of it could have been eliminated to make the message in language more clear. Transitional phrases could have also helped, such as, "As I mentioned in the last chapter..." then going ahead and repeating what was mentioned in the last chapter while eliminating the other repetitiveness only a few pages apart in numerous cases. There are times it's valuable to repeat, but this repetitiveness isn't needed by those not stuck in their head who can ground the concepts the first dozen times. It almost seemed obsessive.

I am still, though, glad to have read it. I hope there is professional content editing for any subsequent volumes.

I am still not done with this, which I tend to pick up when I feel the need. I highly recommend this if you are a student of A Course in Miracles. The author knows what she's talking about.
