I started this book at the beginning of the pandemic, thinking it was going to be chock full of inspirational passages about the beauty and appreciation of nature. It was not. I thought I would be posting quotes on social media about our love and respect for the environment. I did not. Instead, it was full of dire warnings, dating back to James Madison in 1818. There are selections from Theodore Roosevelt, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Al Gore, Jr., among many others. The selections were short, as was the book itself at 200 pages, but I could only handle a few pages at a time. I think I was more disappointed in us than I was in the book.
