The Final Shortcut

Rate this book
A dark, horrific secret lies buried in the serenity of Kentucky's Bluegrass Mountains. A deformed, psychotic, madman stalks the road ways of Bontonville for his next victim. His huge family property connects two highways with a private shortcut known only to him. He lures truckers and travelers into his private hell where he ruthlessly attacks them, hides their vehicles and disposes of their bodies in an immense underground lair where they become part of his deliciously macabre collection. For over twenty years not a shred of evidence has ever escaped his maniacal control. Until one day a federal undercover agent working on a case in the next county, stumbles on a clue that erupts into an intense, deadly chase to catch the most heinous killer in local history. "The Final Shortcut" is a fiction thriller novel that will grab you from the very first moment and you won't be able to put it down. Not since "Silence of the Lambs" has there been a novel so enthralling, imaginative, gruesome and bizarre. This is a tale with engaging characters, a realistic plot with many unexpected turns and a suspenseful, action-packed ending that will leave you exhausted. If you only read one novel this year, read "The Final Shortcut." G.B. Ray has traveled the globe from the USA to China, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean. Good read, not the usual ending. I like suspense stories so this was right up my alley. Found this book by accident and was happy with that.

One of the major things I liked about this was the back-story. Ray takes the time to tell us about Junior, how he grew up, his parents, and what makes him tick, and how his clock was eventually over wound. This is where his story excelled. We got to know the killer, intimately, and we were guided into his world before it became awash with blood, and we were there for that as well.

Ray created a strong character and a tense story with some nice scenes of violence and gore. Ray is a great new voice in the world of horror.

Creepy and complex thriller!

Recommend this book who like to be involved and thought provoking mystery. It is set in a rural area where laws are broken and the law turns their eyes the other way. This mindset clearly corrupts people and the town becomes eaten up by the violets and most heinous crimes imaginable.

I feel it necessary to qualify my rating of this book. This is not the kind of book I generally enjoy; it's gruesome to say the least. However, I gave it four stars because I had a hard time putting it down. I was enthralled the whole way through. It’s like watching a train wreck or a bad car accident. You don’t want to look because you know it won’t be good, but you can’t NOT look.

Crazy book

Some parts good but some parts need work, like calling a bayonet a good hunting knife, obviously the author has never hunted or skinned a animal or he would never say that. Also all states have seasons and limits on animals so junior could not legally do all the hunting the author said he did.
