It’s SpongeBob’s party, and he can celebrate if he wants to! But where are the balloons, the cake, . . . or his friends? Like SpongeBob, young readers are in for a surprise as they join their favorite yellow sponge in this Level 1 reader with rebus icons.
I hate this book and every book like it. My kids LOVE it.
Be warned: this book is intended for very young readers who have seen the TV show and know characters/setting very well. The text is basically limited to kindergarten sight words with the exception of proper nouns from the show. The names of characters and places are replaced with teeny tiny pictures with the words in even smaller text beneath. The visual result is irritating. If my kids didn't absolutely love this book, I'd give it 2 stars because I hate the text layout that much. Also, small children apparently really like dramatic readings, so if you overdo it once by pausing before the picture emoji names (so you can read that tiny text) and then happily scream out the names once you've got them, you will be forced to read that way forever. Try to read normally and you'll be told you're doing it wrong.
Summary: It is SpongeBob’s birthday and he is so excited when he wakes up! He asked Gary if he remembered what day it was, but Gary didn’t say. Then he saw Sandy with a box, but it wasn’t a gift. Then he asked Patrick and he didn’t know either. When he got to the Krusty Krab it was empty; Mr. Krabs and Squidward didn’t know what today was either. So, SpongeBob was very sad, but then he walked into the kitchen and everyone was there to surprise him, with balloons, gifts, and more!
Possible Topics: 1. Don't quickly assume something. 2. Celebrating birthdays! 3. Sometimes people will forget your birthday, it's okay.
Thanks Nickelodeon my granddaughter is a huge fan of SpongeBob. She makes it a point to watch it everyday and she enjoyed this book very much. It was a good short read for her and a great surprise to learn that I found this book. I recommend this book to parents for their children to use as a learning tool. We also discovered there’s a series ok book we plan to read! I gave this book five stars because it we added it to our reading library. Thanks 👍👍
Nickelodeon, thank you. SpongeBob is a tremendous hit with my sister. She makes me watch it every day with her, and she thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a pleasant surprise to realize that I had discovered this book for her. I recommend this book to parents as a learning tool for their children.
Spongebob thinks everyone forgot his birthday, but they actually planned a surprise party. Wow! This storyline has never been done before!
I also find the "rebus icons" or emoji-like work representation throughout to be very distracting. I'm not learning to read though, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
read this with my niece, we read it as an ebook. We both loved how the book was read-aloud and that's what made her more engaged. She read it again a couple of times so it's safe to say she loved it.
I chose my rating because i feel this book deserves 5 stars. It is fun, wacky, and exciting to read. Lots of giggles the whole way through the book(: we would recommend this book to everyone.
Great read for my spongebob fan who is an early reader. She knew he was disappointed and feeling sad but the surprise at the end was perfect for spongebobs birthday!
This is a level 1 reading book, it's not super easy but not real difficult either. A beginning reader would be proud of him-herself as they read this on their own. Many repetitive words so the reader can read over and over again helping boost self esteem. Also this is a 'picture book' meaning some of the words have been replaced by pictures of what it is making it easier for a young reader to read. AND for the adult it has in smaller words under the picture of what it's suppose to be so the adult can help the reader with words they may not know. Or in my case I read this out loud to my special needs son, having the smaller words under the pictures helped in me reading out loud. I didn't have to pause to figure out what the picture is suppose to be.
SpongeBob feels everyone has forgotten his birthday as he has not been wished Happy Birthday all the while his friends and community are giving him a surprise party to celebrate him.
