In the seemingly peaceful Central American country of Panama, an international terrorist organization is plotting to destroy America. Two Americans on holiday, a beautiful woman working as a biological researcher in Maryland, and a former combat pilot and businessman from Texas, become ensnared in their diabolical scheme. Gunfire, bombs, and jungle predators aren’t the only trials they will face. Will Barnes find her in time? Will he then be able to escape the terrorist stronghold and navigate the dangers of the rain forest to get them back to civilization? While the clock ticks out the moments of their lives, the only question is— how much time do they have…
Amazon review: A fast moving tale of intrigue and romance takes the reader from the biomedical laboratories of Fort Detrick, Maryland, to the jungles of Panama. Lincourt’s knowledge of weapons, helicopters and Panama are evident and give a feeling of authenticity to the rapidly moving plot. .
Wayne Lincourt grew up in Richfiled Springs in central New York State. He served in Vietnam as an Army attack helicopter pilot flying more than six hundred combat missions. His area of operation was predominently in the CuChi District along the North Vietnamese Army’s main infiltration routes from Cambodia.
Wayne’s love of aviation eventually brought him to special interest magazine publishing where he worked for Rotor & Wing International and FLYING magazines. He started as an advertising sales representative and worked his way up to Vice President of one of the world’s largest magazine publishing companies.
After becoming Associate Publisher of FLYING, Wayne left the corporate world to start a publisher’s representative business where he worked under contract for FLYING, Women’s Sports & Fitness, Women’s Sports on Campus, HS SPorts, Warren Miller’s Snow World, Shooting Times, and Running Times.
Throughout his career, Wayne has been active in combat shooting sports, close quarters battle, martial arts and kick boxing. His life experiences and love of travel are reflected in his work.
This is a romance novel... with kidnapping. I actually don't have a problem with that, though I did not find the main characters' love story particularly convincing. Basically, the first half of the book is a slow slog to get the couple together and in harm's way, then the second half is constant danger and drama (Which the main characters seem not to take exceptionally seriously - Even after everything they have been through, they keep wondering if they are overreacting) Everybody gets their happily ever after.
There were a lot of things making me scratch my head, most notably that an NSA black ops commander would invite a guy he just met along for a mission. Well, lots of other stuff, but I don't want to spoil the book.
I received this book from the Goodreads First Reads program.
Deadly Deception, Wayne Lincourt The beginning of the book was quite interesting, I thought it was going to be good, but as I progressed it was, for me, a disappointing read. Actually I just skimmed the last half. I'm the type of reader that has to finish.
Enjoyed the trip to the mysterious and ancient Orinoco River Valley of Venezuela. The area visited in the story is inhabited by the Yanomami Tribe. This tribe use spirits to guide them about who to trust and how to make life decisions. It was very educational learning about this tribe, their style of life, the places and rivers in South America. This is the second Joshua Miller Adventure but is a stand alone book. Josh works as an agent for The National Security Agency. He is sent undercover into the jungle region to investigate and find a biological agent facility which is developing a deadly virus to release on the American public. The delivery method devised to spread this biological agent used was a common everyday article which was both creative and scary. The plot is well developed with several subplots that keep it moving smoothly. The characters are unique, colorful, multidimensional whether the sincere or sinister ones. At the end the author has a list of additional information to further learn about the place and tribe in the book. I received this book through a Goodreads First Reads giveaway. My opinions are my own. Thank you, Mr. Lincourt for the signed copy. Look forward to reading more adventures of Joshua Miller.
I won this autographed copy on Good Reads. Thank you, Mr. Lincourt. I have not read the first book in this series but this book is just fine as a stand alone read. The book is very well written and the author obviously has quite a bit of knowledge about the various government agencies referenced in this book.
The lead character, Josh Miller, is an NSA agent sent into the jungle, undercover, to investigate a virus that is being produced by to be used in a terrorist plot. He is sent to gather info on it and try to contain any damages it may have already caused to the local population. It sounds cut and dry but it's not that easy. He quickly learns that there is a wide variety of characters that are determined to thwart his efforts.
Although very well written, I didn't find this book to move very fast for my own personal taste. I didn't really start getting excited until about the last 3rd of the book. So, for me, it wasn't a real page turner overall but it was still a very good read.
At first it was a slow start but then the magic started happening. Not magic in the sense of witches and wizards, but an older magic a more basic magic. It was full of danger and mystery and saddness, but was a great read. I recommend this book to an older audience as there are some graphic scenes this is definitely an adult book. I would like anyone looking for adventure that us not the norm while it had some normal scenes it mostly contained a bright new perspective on a world most of us have only dreamed of seeing. This book features some military ops but I don't feel that is the main focal point of the book. The main point of the book is to inform everyone that even though everyone can hold their own all over the world no matter the culture sometimes we all need a little help from a hero.
Dr. Laurie Martin (Todd fiancé; USAMRID, Ft. Detrick, Maryland) & James Jim Barnes (former combat pilot/businessman) are on separate vacations in Panama. Or so they think.
Someone is after her, who could that be? & what do they want her for?
The 2 Laurie & Jim adventure & suspense can only be imagined.
A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written clandestine adventurous book. It was very easy to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. No grammar errors, repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make great suspense mysterious movie, or mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.
Thank you for the free Autographed Goodreads book Tony Parsons MSW (Washburn)
I really enjoyed this story it kept me going from the start of the book. Very fast paced! The bring together the modern world and and ancient jungle tribe was wonderful. It was a nice surprise to find out that Mr. Lincourt is a neighbor of just a few miles away in Texas standards. Thank you so much for the signed copy I won on Goodreads.
Deadly Deception was a good read. I gave it 3 stars because for some reason I wasn't fully into it like I was with other books. Maybe I just wasn't totally focused while reading it, but it was still a good book. I liked the characters and the fact that a lot of the book took place in Panama. Full of action and romance (:
