This is a cute story. I like the fact that that author is from Ottawa to and the story takes place in Ottawa. This was book was alright. There are two more to the series. I don't think I'll be reading them anytime soon. I liked the story though but it is for a 9-12 year old whom im sure think it's awesome :)

This is a pretty generic story. ...I don't have a lot to say about it. It has a lot of big ideas, but doesn't quite hit the target. I felt that most of the potential was padded with cliches and loud-mouthed characters, who are unreasonably mean to each other here and there. It's not a bad story, it's just... generic.
I'm still going to read the other two books though. :)

Excellent book - loved by parents and kids alike. Cool that it takes place in the Canadian Parliament buildings - a place that we could easily picture.

Author came to my school, so I got an autographed copy. Planning to leave it somewhere in Ottawa as part of the Book Fairies book drop. Maybe around the Parliament Buildings?

L'uovo di Serpente è un fantasy per ragazzi. Forse se l'avessi letto da ragazzina mi sarebbe piaciuto di più, ma ora come ora ho trovato troppi difetti.
La storia è piena di potenziale, ma la realizzazione non è all'altezza. I personaggi sono bidimensionali e i rapporti tra di loro non ben caratterizzati. I continui cambi di punto di vista sono un po' irritanti, o forse è che non sono più abituata al narratore onnisciente.
Ci sono moltissimi elementi nella narrazione, ma non sono sviluppati a dovere. In molti punti la storia procede in modo troppo sbrigativo.
Inoltre avrei voluto sapere prima di iniziare che si trattava di una serie.

The serpent's egg focuses on realistic character behavior and a magically adventurous plotline - this fantastic and suspenseful story was incredibly difficult to put down, and I often caught myself laughing aloud as I read it, or fearing for the characters.
A (thought to be) normal girl, Miranda, works out to be a wonderful heroine in the novel. Her closely knit friendships with other courageous characters, along with their interactions and development make this book much more enjoyable than the average fantasy.
The world is deceptively 'normal,' until the release of a great malevolent demon sparks the interaction between two previously separated worlds - one of the humans, and one for those who possess magic. There are limited ways to access each world, but they do exist, and a perfect example would be the one located beneath the parliament buildings in Ottawa, Canada.
When a mysterious man comes from this other world, which the humans had long forgotten about, Miranda finds herself the target of not just him (who is trying to save her), but that of the blood-thirsty demon as well. Not only that, but her forever-loyal friends chase after the pair in an effort to save Miranda from something they do not yet understand. This is the beginning to a tale of, classically, the forces of good combating those of darkness, intense battles, brave and empathetic heroes, and cold-hearted villains.
This story will leave you wishing that you could have been included in the adventure, and hurrying to pick up the next novel, The Burning Crown, as soon as possible.
J. Fitzgerald Mccurdy is a most brilliant writer, and the only complaint I could fairly voice would be that her story ended far too fast!

Le tre stellette sono il voto che avrei dato a questo libro quando lo lessi a 11-12 anni. Forse è stato addirittura il mio primo libro fantasy in assoluto (tralasciando quelli per bambini alla Roald Dahl).
All'epoca mi piacque molto l'idea della protagonista, Miranda, che scopriva di essere una Prescelta (TM) e si trovava a viaggiare in un mondo magico popolato da genti diverse dagli esseri umani.
Andando avanti con la lettura la nostra prode (?) eroina scopre che nel mondo parallelo vivono druidi, nani, draghi e sì, il prezzemolo del fantasy, gli Elfi. E scopre lei stessa d essere un'elfa. Devo ammettere che di quest'ultimo dettaglio mi ero dimenticata, perché rileggendo il libro di recente appena sono arrivata a quella parte mi sono collassate una o due dozzine di neuroni... E poi ho riposto il libro nello scaffale più alto della libreria. Non sempre rileggere i libri della gioventù è una buona idea.
Comunque, da quel poco che ho riletto mi sono resa conto che non solo lo stile di scrittura è atroce e a tratti incomprensibile(forse colpa del traduttore, non so), ma che i personaggi sono uno più piattoloso dell'altro (adulti compresi) e le vicende narrate quasi sempre RIDICOLE, con l'aggravante che non sono una parodia del fantasy, al contrario, l'autrice stessa voleva fare un omaggio a Tolkien. Faceva meglio a portargli un mazzo di crisantemi sulla tomba, davvero.
Insomma, questo libro lo consiglio solo a coloro che non hanno mai letto fantasy in vita loro (e che non hanno più di 12 anni), potreste anche trovarlo divertente. Ultimamente poi lo vedo spesso esposto sulle bancarelle a 3 euro, tra banchetti di mutande XXXL e gli stand di cosmetici cinesi, quindi non c'è neanche bisogno di spenderci tanti soldi come feci io all'epoca (e le copertine facevano pure schifo).

Well written story. Very creative connection between fantasy and Canadiana. Looking forward to book two.

I read this when I was younger (around 12) and I loved it. She really captivates you and brings you into this magical world she's created. I couldn't put this book and the rest of the series down.
