When Mom and Dad tell Little Critter ® they have exciting news, he thinks they mean they're getting a new dog—not moving to a new house! Will he be able to bring his sandbox? What if he has to go to a new school full of bullies? What if his new next-door neighbors are monsters!? Eventually, Little Critter learns moving is not so bad after all. . . .
Mercer Mayer is an American children's author and illustrator. He has published over 300 books, using a wide range of illustrative styles. Mayer is best known for his Little Critter and Little Monster series of books.
Okay, but couldn't a lot of this critter's anxiety have been solved by his parents just letting him know that they were moving down the street?! C'monnnnn.
When I got my hands on Little Critter: We Are Moving I immediately thought about another book I've had on my shelves since childhood. Actually I think this book was my brothers as a child (he's over a decade older than I) from Random House called The Berenstain Bears' Moving Day.
Previously my moving themed book of choice was the Berenstain Bears Moving Day and now there is a new one to add to that in a Little Critter We Are moving. While in this one Little Critter seems to have an attitude, but I think for the nervous and unsure child it is similar to how they might feel.
While "Moving Day" was more about obvious fear of moving, "We are Moving" is more about anger because of moving. However I think they are alike too, because the main thing is that it is different for these two little boys, Brother Bear and Little Critter, and they react to their "fear in different ways. Yet in the end... they both find that a new environment has it's perks as well. "Sometimes moving is not so bad."

Another Mercer Mayer book that all my kids enjoyed. My 5 yr old just adores Mayer and requests her books constantly. I read them at the breakfast or lunch table and even my 3 yr old twins get into them. We love trying to find the mouse and spider that seems to follow the main character around, they’re always doing silly things. Fun engaging themes that any child can relate to, a great addition to any children's library.
I love how Little Critter imagines all the problems with his family's move--and how it turns out to be better than he thought. Great look at how people worry about problems that aren't even really problems.
Little Critter gets upset when he learns that his family is moving. He thinks he will miss all his friends, have to start a new school and loose all the various things he's used to. BUT when he sees their new house he's really happy!
Not bad, but most useful in situations where you’re moving to a new house within the same town/neighborhood and your kids won’t have to change schools.
