"Kyana brings a new dimension to the ranks of kick-butt heroines....I'm looking forward to more of her adventures." --Alyssa Day, New York Times bestselling author
The ranks of tough, beautiful, and sexy heroines who battle supernatural evil have grown since the early days of Buffy the Vampire Slayer--and none are tougher than author Sable Grace's half Vampyre-half Lychen warrior Kyana. Paranormal romance fans who regularly devour the bestselling novels of Jeaniene Frost, Pamela Palmer, and Sherrilyn Kenyon will be mesmerized by Chosen, Grace's third breathtaking Dark Breeds adventure. This time her unstoppable avenger takes on her new role as Goddess of the Hunt, joining with Ryker--the new Zeus and Kyana's one true love--to save the world from vampires, demons, shapeshifters, and all manner of supernatural creatures of the night, in a battle that could carry them to the fiery depths of Hades itself.
Sable Grace is the writing team of Heather Waters & Laura Barone, long time critique partners and friends who came together by fluke to discover their voices fit together quite nicely during an experiment of "I'll write the first sentence, you write the next." It was meant to be nothing more than a warm up exercise for each of them to get started on their own projects, but soon, the story became far more interesting than what they were supposed to be working on and Sable Grace was born.
I really hated this book. I feel badly having such negative comments to say about this book because I can tell the authors tried really hard to put forth a good book. It's well written and interesting. I just have too many complaints to give the book a good rating.
My complaints: ...........................Contains spoilers...........................
So, there were a lot of things I didn't like about this book. And really the only thing I did like about it was that it was well enough written, and I liked the interaction between the characters. I also thought it was an interesting idea, and I can see that the authors put some thought into it, just bit off more (ambrosia) than they could chew (or swallow). There were too many abilities the gods were given, but weren't then able to use. Too much magic that the authors couldn't then get their characters to utilize. It was like saying they can read anyone's mind, and then can't even tell if a boy likes them. Um, hello, read his mind!
I liked Kyana from the first chapter of Book 1. I have enjoyed following her journey from independent Vampire/Werewolf mixed breed then through her transformation to the Goddess of the Hunt. She has put people in danger, Saved innocents and protected those she cares about. Everything seems to have settled down a bit when Haven starts dreaming about Cronos new plans to get revenge on those that went against him. In CHOSEN Kyana is forced to revisit past experiences with people long dead, she is forced to accept help from others and she is forced to search her heart and soul for what she wants out of her relationship with Ryker.
The series has had great character development and world building. There are many levels to the world that Sable Grace has created and it was easy to fall into. The story flows at a nice pace. I didn't love book 3 as much as the previous 2 books. I think I missed the angry, take no crap Kyana but she has developed nicely and I think it was the right direction for her character. I loved the final fight with Cronos, There was plenty of action, danger and surprises. The ending felt complete and if CHOSEN is to be the last in the series I would be happy with everything that was resolved. This is not a series to start from any book other then the first. There is no recapping of past events and you would be totally lost.
Apparently this is the third and final book in the Dark Breeds series. Many of the problems found solutions, but there were also some loose ends that were not tied up in my opinion. The biggest shocker Chosen gave me was Ares. I really started liking his character towards the end of Bedeviled. I loved him in Chosen. He finally fit into the role as a father. He also had an interesting evening with Kyana that I found very entertaining.
Cronos is beyond evil and he does not pull any punches in his pursuit to see his revenge achieved. He wants his sons to pay for his death. He wants Kyana and Haven to pay for getting in his way. He is willing to do anything and everything to get what he wants. He is ruthless in his pursuit of his only goal.
I am used to characters evolving as a series progresses. I think Kyana devolved. There were so many things I loved about her in Ascension. She was full of badassery. As her goddess powers took over she became tremendously committed to her new role as the Goddess of the Hunt. She softened in many ways. The softening allowed her to finally open her heart fully to Ryker, that was a good thing, but she also weakened her in many circumstances to me.
I think this series would be highly enjoyed by fantasy fans who want minimal sexual romance in the books they read.
This was undoubtedly the best in the series. I actually didn't dislike Kyana in this. The events alluded to in the other books come to fruition in a pretty good way. I think I would look forward to reading another book if the author continues this series.
To be fair, I may have enjoyed this more had I read the first two books. I liked Kyana and Ryker and might read the previous ones to fill in what I missed.
Chosen picks up about six weeks after Bedeviled left off. Kyana is getting used to sharing her temple and her bed with Ryker, both of whom have their full god powers now. Haven is being kept in the healing circle to finish her cleansing.
Kyana wakes from a horrible dream to find the ghost of Haven’s twin sister, Hope, staring at her. She warns Kyana that ‘he’ is coming and that they must hurry. Ryker (who also sees Hope) and Kyana rush off to check on Haven. They get her out of the building right before it implodes, burying some inside.
Haven tells Kyana that she is feeling Cronos and that she is having strong dreams of him. So they visit Morpheus, the God of Dreams, so that Kyana can connect to Haven’s dreams. What they see is shocking. Cronos is digging up graves to bring the deceased back to life and build his army. It’s even more terrifying once they realize that it’s happening in real life, not just in Haven’s dreams.
Cronos is back and has one thing on his mind; destroy Olympus and all its inhabitants so that he can rule all three realms. Now the gods must band together to destroy this threat, but it won’t be an easy battle and lives will be lost. Do Ryker and Kyana have what it takes to survive?
I have read all three of the Dark Breed novels back-to-back, and I have to admit that I’ve gotten pretty bored with the storyline. Here, we are at book three and we’re still facing the same problem; Cronos. It just doesn’t seem much has changed between each book and the whole thing is getting pretty tired and dull.
I did, however, enjoy the more personal scenes. For instance, learning more about Ares and his past with Ryker’s mother. It was nice to finally have it proven that Ares isn’t the jerk that Ryker always thought he was. I was a little surprised to learn that Ares is indeed his father though. With all the talk of Zeus’s treatment of women and the few remarks of Ryker’s resemblance to him (before he had all of Zeus’s power) in the previous books, I really thought that was where they were headed with it. I’m glad to hear that wasn’t the case as I like little surprises in my reading.
Cronos raising Kyana’s human husband was pretty predictable, but I still enjoyed the scene. Especially when her savior rode to save the day once again.
And, I truly thought with all the fertility talk that we would find out at the end of the book that Kyana was pregnant, but it never got to that. There was too much else going on.
One thing I really didn’t like was not so much the return of Henry, but the position he gained in this book. I felt it was just a little too far-out there to expect the gods to accept him as a chosen after being a dark breed that they had hunted down and killed and then him being brought back to life by their biggest enemy. I didn’t feel he had any ill intent while reading the book, but if I had been one of the gods I wouldn’t have trusted him. They didn’t even take him in front of Jordan Faye to verify his intent.
Also, what happened to immortal meaning someone can’t be killed or are at least hard to kill? These seem to be the weakest immortals I have ever seen. I truly thought that once the characters came into their full god powers that they’d be a bit tougher. The way the book is written they seem to be able to be killed as easily as Haven or any of the other witches or mystics, if you can get your killing blow in between there spurts of magic, you can kill them.
I really did like the ending of this book, but it just wasn’t enough to make up for left over storyline. I’m curious to see if this is the last installment to the series or not. The main conflict was wrapped up, but I feel that there is more story to tell. I don’t think that this book is the end for a certain character that was killed in battle that I have grown to really enjoy, or maybe that’s just wishful thinking? I also feel the possibilities are still open to Haven as well and that there might be a new romance brewing for her. And, let’s not forget about Ryker and Kyana whose relationship is just starting to grow.
I do hope that this series continues and that with a new storyline this series can be revived and be better than it has ever been.
Opening six weeks after Bedeviled ceased, Chosen takes off, save the ill boding dream, with the promising scenario offered at finding Ryker still in Ky's bed. It is hopefully indicative that Arte's suggestion for the palaces of the God of Gods and the Goddess of the Hunt, be joined and shared have been taken onboard. The ominous dream however, acting in some fashion as an absent prologue and premonition herein, hints at the flavour of things to come.
When finally Ky sees Haven for the first time since their return from the penal island, the news she learns confirms her worst fears. Evidence points to the conclusion that during their return they picked up an obscured hitchhiker. The only potential boon is that Haven appears to still share a feared psychic connection with Cronos, bestowed on account of her possession, and offering advantageous insights.
Had Ky not enforced the disputed reprieve from immediate punishment, such advantage would not have occurred. Of course any positives that might exist aren't so beneficial for Haven; who has spent every effort during this time attempting to eject Cronos from her mind, without success. It may however offer the desired opportunity for Haven to redeem some of the occurrences which took place in Bedeviled, thus gaining her freedom l
With Ryker's promotion, of sorts, from Ares' General to the vessel of Zeus' power there was of course a position free for a sentinel to be promoted. Of note, the hero (and by association the heroine, the now heavily pregnant Shanna) from the series prequel, Zack Merchant, finally warrants another mention. A pleasant development for those of us who remember and enjoyed his role during the wee hours Before the Fall - when the gates of Tartarus were first fully opened. Whilst in the scheme of things it's been less than the term of Shanna's pregnancy since our story begun, the depth of events which have taken place perceptually feels longer. The endless struggles and tense moments, as I'm sure Ky would agree, gives the impression of a saga ongoing for several years.
As her goddess responsibilities begin to shape more than just the external characteristics of Ky, the inner becomes more different than is wanted, but also slowly becoming appreciated. Her personal reflections begin to the contrast the old with the new more frequently. Whilst she'd never admit it to anyone, save perhaps herself, Ky begins to take fulfillment from a greater number of achievements that aren't directly related to the hunt and dealing out death. As is often the case she becomes a reflection of the responsibilities she possesses, and in doing so comes to learn a great many things to live for.
The catch twenty-two is of course that in having more to live for its possible to fear more; for there is a greater number of things to lose, should she perish. Such is the conundrum of living a life of enrichment. She may not have asked for the things her devout loyalty had delivered, but they happened nonetheless. Given the history of the events throughout the story thus far, it should come as no surprise that on the eve of discovering the greatest gift of all, to be in love, Cronos and his army should march on all their doors.
A fitting and encompassing finish to a spectacular series, it'll be sad to move on from Kyana' and her loved one's lives. The tallies have been counted and cost was high. The length given to the finishing confrontation is gratefully longer than some series let themselves be let down by. Its a relief to read a final battle worthy of the build-up getting there. The images conjured are detailed and vivid, the narration sweeping across the frontier of events taking place from the vanguard to the throne room. Given the experiences of reading the Dark Breed series, it'd be nice to see the heart of the full storyline playing out on the big screen.
Kyana's entire very long life has been a struggle, from her mortal years as an abused wife in a harem, to her death and rebirth as a hated Dark Breed, then through the years of prejudice as she tried to use her half Vampyre, half Lychen nature to help others, and then finally through her transition into the Goddess of the Hunt. She was chosen for this role for her perseverance to protect others throughout the years and her fierce will to survive. Yet now that her life could have finally been settling down, a massive threat looms on the horizon, as Chronos sets to conquer the gods and humans a like. With Ryker, the man she is coming to love at her side, Kyana knows that they must do whatever it takes to finally stop Chronos once and for all, even if that means making the ultimate sacrifice.
Looking back at the Kyana that was introduced in Ascension and the one that finished out Chosen, and I can hardly believe they are the same person. Kyana has gone through so much change, all of it for the better. Sure she may be a little softer rather than a killer bad ass, but that only opened her up to allowing others into her heart which is never a bad thing in my opinion. Also, I think her fighting skills have greatly improved as well now that she isn't so quick to run head first into battle. In the past, her temper and her leap before looking nature got her into some sticky jams, that honestly took a miracle to get out of. Now however, she is much more thoughtful and takes the time to consider her decisions before making them, giving her both the brawns and the brains to take down just about any foe. Considering the nasty showdown with Chronos, she's need every advantage she can get.
I really enjoyed the blend of the old gods and new ones in Chosen. There always is a great deal of friction in any situation when it is time for the next generation to take over. Considering the longevity of the original gods' rule, things were only more difficult, especially in Zeus/Ryker's place. Yet, with the massive threat of Chronos looming darkly over their heads, they didn't have much choice as infighting would have crippled them in a time where they needed every last one of them to have even the slightest chance at success. I just enjoyed seeing how even the most ancient of beings can put aside differences and stand up for a worthy cause. Even though this is only fiction, it kind of gives me a little hope for the real world.
As much as I enjoyed Chosen and felt it wrapped things up well for Kyana and Ryker's story, I can't help feeling like there was so much left unsaid, especially since the ending felt rather abrupt. I can't exactly put my finger on what that is, but I definitely think there is a potential for more books in this series, even if they don't center around Kyana and Ryker. I just feel like only the surface of this world has been scratched, and that there are many more stories left to tell. I'd particularly like to see a spin off featuring Haven as I'd love to see some happiness for her. So I'm crossing my fingers that the open-endedness of the wrap up means that there is more in store for this world. As far as Chosen, it definitely was an impressively action packed wrap-up to a series I have come to love, and I highly recommend it.
CHOSEN picks up six weeks after the conclusion of BEDEVILED. Kyana Aslan is now the Chosen Goddess of the Hunt even though she hasn't undergone her full regiment of training. Thanks to the caring and understanding of Artemis the former Goddess, Kyana learns more about her abilities and herself than ever before.
Kyana’s relationship with Ryker (the Chosen God of Gods Zeus) has grown exponentially now that they are together on Olympus and spending time together. Ryker obviously loves Kyana who is stubborn as they come when it comes to saying I LOVE YOU in return. PNR lovers will be happy to know that there is quite A LOT of sexual hotness between the two characters in Chosen. It also doesn’t detract from the storyline which is a positive in my opinion.
Kyana still believes that she is one of the best Trackers that the Order has to offer even though she is no longer a dark breed (half Lychen and half Vampire). While Cronus is making his move against his sons, Kyana ends up cooped up on Olympus where she is being trained and protected and treated like an invalid by Ryker and others. Kyana refuses to allow anyone to tell her what to do when it comes to hunting down and stopping Cronus. This, of course, causes more sparks and arguments.
Kyana still has her ups and downs as a character. Chosen really brings those to the forefront. While she makes some harebrained decisions, she also makes some timely and ultimately right choices in regards to stopping Cronus and trusting Haven to be on her side. She continues to be pulled in several directions thanks largely to Ryker and Haven. While she is brave and seems to understand what she is doing, she still makes silly mistakes and it costs her in devastating ways.
Somehow, which isn't really explained all that well, Cronus has escaped from his island prison and is gathering a dark army which includes some from Kyana's human past. Those from Kyana's past are not nice and yet there is one in particular who once again comes to her aid in her time of need.
If you haven’t read ASCENSION, I would highly recommend that you do. I say that because in order to understand what has happened to this point, you need to read the two previous books in the series. It will give you an idea of where we are in the story, and why the world has gone to hell in a hand basket. It will also allow you to understand the world in which this is written; a world that actually is separated into 3 separate realms of existence which includes humans, and the Gods of Olympus.
Chosen appears to be the last book in the Dark Breed trilogy and it seems as though most if not all of the loose ends have been tied up. There was even a poignant moment between Ares and Ryker that only took 410 years to resolve.
Once again, Chosen is set in St. Augustine, Florida and parts of Jacksonville, FL. I really appreciate when local authors set their stories where I live, or have visited over the past 12 years and can actually understand the setting they are writing about. I know Sable Grace is the writing duo of Heather Waters and Laura Barone and therefore will look forward to what they come up with next either together or solo.

An ancient evil has returned and he has his tyrannical sights set on ruling all. Kyana may no longer be half vampyre, half lychen but the new Goddess of the Hunt is still a warrior and is prepared to fight. At her side is Ryker, the new Zeus, and together with their allies they battle for the freedom of all races.
I was not a fan of Kyana's at the start of the series. With the exception of her best friend Haven, she only cared about the glory she got from completing missions for The Order of Ancients. There was a lot of hate built up towards humans because of what happened before she was turned and she erected this wall around herself to keep everyone out. In the previous book you start to see changes but in Chosen, Kyana grows into this character I've come to adore. She's allowing people in, not jumping the gun, and actually being reasonable. In this book we see and feel the pain and emotional turmoil of her past. All this has made her less cold and brash and more caring and tolerant while keeping a lot of her badass side. A far more enjoyable heroine than the one we first meet at the start of things.
Ryker manages to be even more fabulous. Things were not always perfect between them in the past but now he's sticking by Kyana while giving her space to be herself. He sees the change in her and respects and trusts her to make decisions that will affect all of Olympus. He allows her the freedom she craves while standing his ground and not letting things backslide in their relationship. It takes a strong and understanding man to be with someone like Kyana and Ryker is that and so much more.
Cronos has returned to once again take his place on the throne of Olympus and he has no qualms with fighting dirty. He brings back ghosts from Kyana's past that turns into pure torture for her and he hasn't forgot about his one-time puppet Haven. Most of the time he wasn't actually in a scene but still manages to scare people and have a powerful presence. This may sound odd but Cronos is vile in all the right ways and he made for a great villain.
The battle against Cronos is what this series has been leading up to. The final fight itself was satisfying but the smaller outings by Kyana, Haven and the other warriors weren't nearly as exciting. Some were predictable or didn't really go anywhere. The one other issue I had was that this is the final book in the series but it doesn't feel that way. Questions are left unanswered and it felt more like this was the end of a particular story arc rather than an entire series.
Even with my issues, I think this is an urban fantasy series worth checking out. There's a lot to like: Greek mythology, a variety of supernatural creatures, strong characters and a romance that builds with each installment. I do highly suggest going back and starting with book one, or at least book two. There's so much you will miss if you don't and I think you won't enjoy this book as much. - Stephanie
The Dark Breeds series has changed a lot over the course of three books. Or maybe it's just that the main character has utterly transformed --from a maligned mixed breed to a goddess of the Greek pantheon.
This third installment begins with Kyana ensconced in Olympus as the new goddess of the hunt. She is happy with Ryker and learning more about her new abilities. Her best friend Haven is recovering from her possession by Cronus. And all seems well until Haven begins having prophetic dreams about Cronus coming back to punish his enemies and regain his power. It turns out that Cronus is resurrecting the dead to become his minions and it's a race to see if Kyana and the other gods can stop him before he achieves his goals.
Honestly, I think I preferred the Kyana of old. She was so damaged and gritty and angry. The first half of this book, I just wasn't feeling the pull. I remember thinking to myself as I read that it just wasn't dark anymore. Then, I swear to you, about two pages later, horrors unfold for Kyana that I never dreamed of. Things picked up at that point. The action was fast and the team takes at least one brutal emotional hit. And yet I just didn't love this one. I was, indeed, shocked by the gruesome attack on Kyana and suitably saddened by the Really Bad Thing that happened, but overall, I was kind of meh on the book.
The ending felt like a series finale, but there are threads left hanging. Like how did Cronus escape the island? (This is pretty significant, as it's kind of the whole starting point for the book.) Why was Henry with the bad souls? (He seemed like a good man.) And while I'm talking about Henry, I felt like there should have been more in that reunion. There could have been more emotional resonance there --and with the Bad Thing that happened. I felt like the Haven resolution was abrupt. Poor Silas was just left hanging. I felt like there was untapped potential across the board. And except in a couple of powerful moments, it all felt kind of superficial.
Eh. I wanted to like it more than I did. I just don't feel like the series ended with the same feel in which it began. Even the romance lacked oomph, despite the fact that it finds a HEA. It's a shame, because I liked the first two books.
Am totally loving this series! Chosen starts pretty much after the last book, Bedeviled, finished with Haven being put in prison for her crimes and the rest of the gang taking on their roles as the new gods and goddesses.
Kyana is now the Goddess of the Hunt and Artemis is still teaching to use her new powers and slowly Kyana is able to manage these with increasing progress. However, Cronos is back and coming back with a vengeance and Kyana, Ryker, Geoff, Silas and Haven must do everything they can to stop him, even if that means trusting Haven not to give in to Cronos again.
Cronos is an evil one, using nightmares from Kyana's past to get to her and using many underhand tricks to hurt her and those she loves, but Ky is no weakling and fights back with everything she can. Together the team are pretty strong, but Cronos knows he needs to separate them and catch them while they are weak. Kyana gets hurt a lot in this book, but bounces back, stronger and more determined to win each time.
Kyana also softens a bit in this book and becomes much more caring - she's still kick ass but not so feisty as she was at the beginning of this series, although that doesn't mean that she has gone soft at all; she's now just more willing to show her feelings to those she cares about about and finally she opens up to Ryker about how she truly does feel about him. Ryker and Ares also have that much needed father-to-son talk and manage to clear the air a bit more.
I didn't like the return of Mehmet (I don't think I was supposed to), but I didn't like how he turned Kyana into a quivering wreck, although I am glad Henry turned up at the last minute, saving her again. Not sure about the return of Henry - I understand why Cronos brought him back, although his plan backfired, but I'm not sure about Henry's turn of events at the end. he did prove himself, but why would the gods readily accept him as Ares' Chosen after their history? Hmmmm
It's a shame this series has now ended, but I do think it ended in a good place. Everything to do with Cronos was more or less wrapped up, but I would like to see where Kyana and Ryker go next and how they deal with their relationship along with their new god/goddess status'.
Kyana is once again in the fight of her life, to save the world from Cronos, the evil god of Olympus. Since rising from the dead, Cronos has built an army and his plan to take over Olympus and the world is in full effect. With Kyana being a full goddess now, she finds it hard to learn how to fight with her new magic instead of her fists. She must think and organize and make sure her people are safe. Kyana is no longer in the midst of battle, but the one giving orders. And with the impending battle coming to Olympus, she needs to perfect her skills in order to win the war.
As opposed to Kyana in Ascension, the bad ass shoot first ask questions later, the new Kyana, goddess of the hunt, is more rational. Kyana still has her edge, but it's been smoothed out a bit by responsibilities and Ryker. She realizes she not only has herself to fight for, but for the people she has grown to love.
Kyana is not the only one finding it hard to go through this transition, Ryker is as well. Being Zeus, the god of gods keeps him from being on the battle field as well. The cute thing is they go through this together. The both of them get to know each other on a deeper level. Gone are the days where they would get together and bang on a counter covered in blood and grime, these days they are making love on their beds with an occasional rendezvous here and there. Kyana and Ryker have grown up, which is sweet and gave me butterflies in my tummy. At one point I was telling Ryker I loved him and swore to Kyana that I would take him away if she didn't give him what he deserved. It was then that I realized why my husband was laughing at me.
Although Chosen wasn't as fast paced as Ascension, I still loved it and felt it wrapped up the story very nicely. I do recommend reading these books in order so you can get the full effect this series has to offer. Well done!
This is the third book in the Dark Breed series by the writing partners that comprise, Sable Grace. This one picks up with the on going battle between the gods and Cronos. Kyana, Ryker, and all of their friends are trying to find Cronos and the dead he is raising along with trying to get control of their new powers. The final throw down between the two sides is about to begin and there will be terrible losses before it is through.
I really enjoyed this book. I liked seeing Kyana opening up to Ryker in ways that she never has before. I also liked seeing Ryker repair his relationship with his dad. I had a feeling right from the beginning that what Ryker thought he knew about Ares was probably inaccurate. I was also glad to see Haven and Kyana working on re-establishing their friendship. So even though there is a lot of suffering in this book there are clear moments of hope and redemption for each character.
There were a couple of things that kept this book from achieving five stars, in my opinion. I felt like everything was a bit rushed. I'm assuming this must be the last book for this series, just by the way it ended. Some of the events felt like a bit of a stretch for example the Henry story line. I mean, I liked the whole idea of Kyana's sire being able to help her but his existence did not seem like something that should work. In most cases, when things are brought back from the dead they eventually have to go back but apparently the rules are different in this universe and it just didn't set right.
I know that everyone complains about the ending to anything, but the big battle against Cronos, at the end, didn't ring true. Usually in a battle of this nature there are numerous skirmishes and the big bad is not so easily subdued. The deaths during this battle were indeed sad but they didn't break my heart like I thought they would.
Otherwise, I really enjoyed the book. I hope that maybe we will get to see more of these characters in the future. I feel like I was just really getting to know them and now they're gone.

The concept of characters replacing the Greek gods was a unique one and I was excited about having Greek mythology infused into my Urban Fantasy. I couldn’t enjoy it though because the I was too busy trying to figure out what was going on. I expected a little disorientation when I started CHOSEN since this was my first book in the Dark Breed series, but I was left feeling confused and lost for almost the entire book.

I didn’t understand why the gods needed replacements if they still existed. It was also difficult to wrap my head around the numerous names as the characters were referred to by their god name and their real name interchangeably along with talking to the real gods who were still around.
The plot revolving around Cronos wanting to take down the gods and generally wreak havoc would have been a neat concept except Cronos’ motivations in this story was never explained. Everything seemed to be set up in the previous book so CHOSEN was basically just the big concluding battle and the tie up of various previously established storylines that I had no idea about.
As a newcomer to the series, I couldn’t really get into CHOSEN or care enough about its characters to root for them one way or another as the the storyline picks up directly from ASCENSION and BEDEVILED without any recap for new readers. I am more than okay with a series that builds upon the previous books to understand it, but without bringing new readers up to speed, this one is strictly for those who’ve read the entire series. For me, unfortunately there was too much unexplained information and too many names to really enjoy this book.
I though this a wonderful conclusion to the Dark Breed series. Kyana has grown up, Ryker got his HEA. The only thing left undone was Haven. Where is her HEA? I understand that not all stories have a HEA, but Haven truly deserved one after everything she went through in these books. And to have Geoffrey die!!! WTF? I cried- yes I got that twisted over it. Unrequited love and all that; hope the authors of these books plans to do a spin off where Haven gets Geoffrey. He was seriously my favorite character throughout this series. And yay am I happy Cronos is gone! A little quick on the battle though; not nearly enough fighting. And that Artemis died too?!?!? I cannot believe they killed off two good characters. GRRRR. But then again it made Kyana grow up and finally do what was needed.

Kyana’s character struggles repeatedly to manage her inner impulsiveness with her new duties as Goddess of the Hunt. She seems to fight her feelings harder than she fights the enemy, which in my opinion makes her seem immature and incompetent. I would like to see Kyana work with Ryker, rather than always around him, and hopefully learn to use what she does know, instead of complaining about what she does not. In my opinion, reading these books in order is recommended, as I feel there is too much unsaid about the “Chosen” for all of these Gods and Goddesses. Lototy Reviewer for Coffee Time Romance & More
I was quite busy when I started this book and regretted not being able to finish it in the normal amount of hours it would have taken me. Once I found the time it was easy to enter the dark breed world again and I can't say I regret it.
I LOVE this book!! The ending is so heart-wrenchingly painful and beautiful and everything an ending needs. There are a few things I wish had happened in the ending but never did, hopefully the duo behind Sable Grace continues the trilogy and makes it in to a series because I'm not ready to leave the dark breed world yet
Definitely a trilogy to read if you're into a fast paced book with all sorts of beings and endless sexual encounters
Chosen was by far the best book in the Dark Breed series. It made me laugh, cry and even think "holy frak I can't believe that just happened" more than once. This is one of the best urban fantasy series I've read and Chosen was everything I wanted and needed to close out the series. I was very drawn into Kyana and Ryker's world and I'm gonna miss them. Definitely an intense final chapter that brought in new characters from Kyana's past, though I wish we knew more about them before because their inclusion seemed a bit random. For the most part, I was happy with how things wrapped up, though Haven deserved a better fate. She was screwed over for basically the whole series, and it would have been nice for her to get a happy ending. Still, a decent wrap up and a really intense final battle. :)
This novel rated about the same as the others. I don't know if this is the end of the series because it could be. However if it isn't, I would be very happy because I'd love to know what happens with everything, especially Haven, since she lost Geoffrey. It was a bittersweet ending in the novel but it still feels uncompleted as a series.
I haven't read the previous books but I thought this was a fun twist on Greek mythology. Kyana and Ryker are an interesting couple that are faced with impossible challenges. My full review will be posted at http://vampchix.blogspot.com beginning 11/2012
This Book is a very Good Finish for the story arc but I certainely hope that ist is Not the last Book in this series and there will be some New adventures of Ky and Ryker. Loved the World and the characters and Hope to see them again
This was a very good book series. One of the better ones that I have read in a long time! With a kick-butt heroine and a drop-dead sexy hero, how could the books do wrong? If you ever read the night huntress series, I want you to read these books! (sigh) i just wish it never ended! ;-)
Great story but my biggest complaint is that I think Sable Grace ended the series. Everything was pretty much wrapped up at the end of the story which makes me a bit sad because I love the characters in this series and I love the premise of it.
Great ending for the series!!! however, why did she have to kill Geoffery? That was really sad. but all in all, I loved this book and how Kyana's character developed.
