From a murder suspect to an unlikely ally in a murder investigation – can Brie finally snip the ties that bind her to a series of gruesome murders?
After leaving behind a tarnished past in Denton Falls, Brie thought she had escaped her horrific past.
But then the bodies of recently murdered girls turn up with the same MO as the killer that taunted her before, and the new life she has built for herself comes crumbling down.
Brie is now forced to confront her past as her nemesis, Detective Anita, is back in her life. But this time, the two form a dynamic duo trying to find the truth about what happened that day in the woods and also to unveil the killer of the recent killings.
Can they find the killer before, or are they destined to become pawns in an endless game of cat and mouse?

You Lied For Me is a thrilling continuation of the Brie Owen Mystery series by Zee David, and let me tell you, it’s one heck of a ride! After reading the first book, I had high expectations, but this novella exceeded them in every way. If you enjoy mysteries with dark pasts, tense alliances, and a truly compelling protagonist, this one is for you!
The story picks up with Brie, a woman haunted by her past, trying to carve out a new life. But just when she thinks she’s escaped the shadows of her former life in Denton Falls, those same shadows come rushing back in a chilling way. The discovery of murdered girls with a pattern that mirrors a previous killer she had a run-in with makes for an incredibly tense and gripping read. Brie’s deep sense of fear and desperation leaped off the pages. She’s now fighting not only to clear her name but to untangle a web of past mistakes and current danger that threatens everything she’s worked for.
What I really loved about You Lied For Me was the dynamic between Brie and Detective Anita. Initially, Anita is a nemesis, someone whose presence in Brie’s life only stirs up painful memories, but as the investigation unfolds, their relationship evolves. Watching them work together, despite the history between them, was one of the highlights of the story. There’s this constant, underlying tension between them that drives the plot forward and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Can they truly trust each other? Or will their pasts destroy any chance of finding the truth? It’s an emotional rollercoaster, and I was here for every second of it.
David’s writing is sharp, and the pacing is spot-on, making this novella impossible to put down once you start. The twists and turns kept me second-guessing, and I loved how David delves into the psychology of the characters, particularly Brie. She’s not just a victim of circumstances; she’s a strong, flawed, and determined woman trying to do the right thing, even when the odds are stacked against her.
This book packs a punch despite its novella length, and I found myself flying through the pages, desperate to know what happened next. You Lied For Me is an excellent follow-up to the first book in the series, with all the suspense, twists, and emotional depth that make this series so addictive.
Another brilliant book by Zee David. I actually think number 2 is better (slightly) than the 1st book. Read them both in order though. Both books were edge-of-your-seat suspense. The descriptive words ZD used just in the first chapter alone had me going on Google and looking up the painting she was describing Saturn (or his other 3,4 names) eating his children by Goya. When I googled the painting, it was almost shocking at first. And then ZD goes into the fascinating story behind it. It was a story about the Greek (I think) gods that I don't remember ever hearing before. And I was hooked from then on.
The way David can paint pictures with her words has always amazed me. I don't ever find them getting too wordy like some authors like to do when describing a tree or something. She knows what will grab your attention, keep you guessing, and have you wanting to finish the book in one sitting. Both books are short. About 100 pages or so each. I normally am not a fan of novellas, but Zee David might just be the master of them. She fits so much story into such little books. It's incredible. I could never write like that. I'm one of the wordy writers.
And the ending... OMG... Totally unexpected. If I were you, I'd buy both 1 & 2 at the same time. You're going to want to read them one after the other, so details don't get forgotten. It took me so long to read this one because I got like 25ish% done and I decided I wanted to go back and read Number #1 again. And I am so glad I did. I really hope there will be more to this story. I could definitely make a great trilogy! (IMO). Zee David just may be the master of Novellas!
‘‘You Lied For Me'' presents an interesting and intriguing storyline that revolves around the protagonist Brie Owen, a journalist haunted by her past. The author does a great job of building the character and creating a sense of tension and suspense that keeps the reader engaged throughout the narrative.
The plot follows the discovery of murdered girls with the same MO as a killer from Brie’s past, and her quest to uncover the truth behind the killings. The inclusion of a call from the killer wanting to play a game adds an extra layer of suspense to the narrative, and the author effectively builds up the tension to a climactic ending.
The introduction of Detective Anita as Brie’s nemesis adds an interesting dynamic to the story, and their cat-and-mouse game keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. The author does an excellent job of weaving together the various plotlines and keeping the reader engaged until the very end.
Overall, “You lied for me” is the best possible way to continue with the first part “I Lied for You”. It is a well-crafted mystery novella that will keep readers engaged from start to finish. The story is filled with suspense, intrigue, and memorable characters that will leave readers wanting more. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good mystery novel and is looking for a quick and engaging read.
This is the second in this series. I haven't read the first but this was fine as a standalone. The story is told from the perspective of Brie, a journalist, and Detective Anita, the detective investigating a series of killings.
The killer is taunting Brie who is desperate to find out what really happened years ago. I enjoyed the cat and mouse side of things. It added to the tension. Despite being short in length, it was quite riveting and didn't feel rushed. It certainly makes me want to read more in the series.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The storyline for this overall was good but there were so many inconsistencies. Things weren't the same from book one and two, as parts should have been. Just a lot of stuff was off. I think this needs to be gone through again and fixed.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a strong entry in the Brie Owen Mystery series. It continued the storyline perfectly and was engaged with what was going on. The characters were everything that I wa expecting and enjoyed how good they worked with the mystery element. Zee David wrote this well and was glad I read this.

Thanks to BookSirens, publishers and author for an ARC of You Lied For Me.
I didn't enjoy this book, the writing felt disjointed and the storyline jumped a lot. I understand this is book 2 in a series, but i found it quite difficult to follow characters also.
Too much jumping around for me to keep up. Read 50% of the book and gave up. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book. the blurb is better than the book in my opinion
Interesting plot, but very disorganized composition with a fictional setting that was confusing and unnecessary. Way too many leaps to poorly explained conclusions.
This book was just....wow. Wow in a good way of course! I was sucked in ASAP and just was on the edge of my seat the entire time. After I finished I went to read the first one (highly recommend) but either way I truly enjoyed this! It'll be a repeated read for sure
