Z martin. Where do you even begin to explain the entity that is this author. He has been known to haunt random bookstores, occasionally purchasing the odd book or two. Some say he writes horror stories while others say he reviews books he has read. Legends say if you speak his name thrice in a mirror he will appear (please do not attempt this he has been known to startle easy).
There are a couple of stories in Zach Martin's 'The Price of Insanity' collection that stand out, are really creepy, and well worth your time: the opening story, "Getaway," about three college friends going to a cabin to have a good time and, well, they find more than they bargained for; and "Blink," the closing story of this short collection, about a creature that can move faster than a blink of the eye. Both stories are memorable, and show great promise. The rest, however, are simply repetitive (cabin stories come up agin, as well as the 'blink' idea in "Tap"), the writing too rough, and the plot feels very unnatural and forced at times. The cover is fantastic, though.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I can't remember where I saw this book mentioned, but I'm really glad I picked it up. These stories will definitely test your sanity. I loved how each story ended in a way that amped up the eerieness of the story. I also loved how Tap and Blink were a continuing story. My first experience with this author and it won't be my last.
I absolutely loved this book. The length of the short stories was perfect. If you want a quick horrifying read or thriller, this is definitely a recommendation. I read through it in one sitting. I have to admit, I wish it was a bit longer. My favorite short stories were: Getaway, Jingle, Unplug, Thin spots, and The pharmacist. Favorite Quote: "Watch the reflections and the windows, listen for sounds or the lack of them and when your mind tells you to run just run."
Good short stories. Right at the beginning it draws you in, love the first story, scary & suspenseful. Super creepy stories throughout the book it made me breakout into goosebumps. Some stories do seem odd, but I had to reread to understand what was going on. Overall I recommend to anyone wanting to get a taste of horror but in a short amount of time.

This was a difficult one to rate. I loved some of the stories (especially Tap & Blink). I would love to see those two extended into a longer story. Some of the stories were too short or a bit cheesy, while others were engaging and had an interesting premise. I liked more stories than I didn’t so overall I would rate it 3.5/4 stars (rounded up to 4 stars).
This is the first book I’ve read from the incredible Z Martin and it definitely won’t be my last. Each story was unique and exciting and as deadly as a knife in the dark. If you’re looking for quick blasts of terror read this book - you might lose some sleep - but you definitely won’t be disappointed!! Definitely recommend!!
Z Martin is a new author to me. The Price of Insanity is a collection of 13 short horror stories. I am glad to support independent authors whose work appeals to me. This collection certainly does. My favorite is the last story. Don't blink...
This was a good read. The multiple short stories works great for busy people. It made it easy to finish a story, go to work, take care of the family and read the next story. I look forward to reading the second book.
This was a fun read! My favorite stories were Getaway, Jingle, The Pharmacist, Tap, and Blink (which is a continuation of the Tap story). I liked the twists especially in Jingle and The Pharmacist! I definitely recommend for anyone looking for some quick horror reads!
This a great collection of quirky horror stories. Very cleverly written to the point I didn't want it to end. I really like how he took a somewhat normal story and put his own creative spin on it. I also liked that they were very short stories and yet were very engaging. I enjoyed all of these tales but my favourite had to be Jingle which had a cool twist at the end. This is my first time reading this author and I am excited to read more of his work.
