Simon Says Die

Rate this book
Madison McKinley knows someone is stalking her. The police tell her she's imagining things, and they're too busy trying to find the "Simon Says" killer to investigate. But day by day, hour by hour, Madison's terror grows stronger, and not even the return of FBI Special Agent Pierce Buchanan into her life can calm her fears. Besides, how can she ask Pierce for his help after the way she ended things between them?

Pierce still wants Madison's love, and his drive to protect her is more powerful than ever. He believes she's in danger, even if the cops don't. Finally, as more people start dying and the evidence mounts, the police turn their attention to Madison—as a suspect. Was Pierce a fool to trust her again, or are they both caught in a complex game that neither will survive?

I really, really enjoyed this book! Ask my kids and look around my house, you can see what I ignored today so I could read instead. :) I was lucky enough to receive an eARC, began it last night, finished it this afternoon. It begins with a bang (literally) and just takes off from there.

I love romantic suspense (OK, I love the entire romance genre). The suspense part of the plot had me unable to put the book down. While one aspect of the case was a bit of a given from the beginning, the "hows" and the "whys" were a clever surprise. I liked Madison as a heroine; she wasn't your typical "I'm going to cower and simper and let this big strong man save me" type of woman. She packs more heat than her FBI-agent-ex-boyfriend, Pierce Buchanan (which I kept reading as Pierce Brosnan so you can imagine how I pictured him), and she knows how to use it. Of course, she's also more of an "act first, apologize or ask questions later" type of person as well which causes most of the strife and misunderstandings between the two.

I also enjoyed "meeting" Pierce's brothers and look forward to reading more about them in future books. I also need to go back and read the first book, about Madison's brother, "He Kills Me, He Kills Me Not."

I enjoyed this, just not quite as much as He Kills Me, He Kills Me Not, and the reason for that lies in Madison McKinley I'm afraid. She was a little annoying and reckless in the first novel, but that didn't really detract from my enjoyment as she stayed in the periphery. In this however her immaturity became a real issue. Yes, the author did give reasons for her behaviour, however she is supposed to be about 29 years old and to have been through several traumatic events that I would have expected to have matured her, but unfortunately didn't! I felt sympathy for Pierce when he was aggravated with her and irritation with her and when she stated before she married she had wanted someone to spoil and indulge her I felt that fast-forwarding 5 years nothing had changed (at one point she stamps her foot when she can't get her own way!) It's personal preference but I prefer to read about relationships that are partnerships and this one wasn't! Excellent writing and story though, the heroine just did't work for me!

Madison - or rather, a weak, repulsive female lead - is the sole reason I gave up on this. Childish, reckless, defiant at every turn with a misguided sense of right and wrong, petulant with tantrums that would rival a 2 year old's, I think there can't be enough negative adjectives I could put down here that would do her justice as the worst character I've ever had the displeasure of reading. Maturity here - or the lack of it - is the main issue here and I simply cannot read about a pairing where the hero is such a shining star in contrast to the dull and blunt surfaces of an undeserving heroine.

Another winner by Lena Diaz. Love all her books...SIMON SAYS DIE is Filled with suspense, laughter, romance.

FBI Special Agent Pierce Buchanan and Madison McKinley are he living in same city now after her moving into a new house he finds out..Madison's brother Logan asks him to keep an eye out for his sister. They broke up but as a favor he does it. Things don't do down as he expected. He does learn some things, and will get whatever she's hiding from him one way or another.

After an incident takes both Madison and Pierce by shock beyond words, she finally confides to him what happand to her, because he also threatens to call her brother.

When everything that happened to her is somehow making her look guilter and guilter Pierce stands by her, even though at one point he doesn't know what to believe. He soon does believe all she tells him. Old feelings creep up which never were lost. Neither of them lost. What will happen?

Highly recommend....You won't see it coming.

This is a first time author for me, but it won't be the last time I read a book by Diaz. I really enjoyed her fast paced story. It kept me read from pages one. I honestly didn't want to put this book down and if life hadn't interfered I wouldn't have. The opening scene was one of the funniest things I've read in a while. It grabbed and pulled me in. At times Madison drove me crazy but I was willing to over look that. In fact, many of the character made me mad at one time or another but I think that made for a better story. Pierce and his brothers brought something special to the story, I hope they all get a story of their own.

A very good suspense tale, fast paced, and different from a lot of other tales of its kind. Instead of telling a story of a bunch of graphic murders, the serial killer plays cat and mouse with the heroine,Madison, who the authorities begin to doubt. Madison is also reunited with former lover Pierce, whom she dumped for what she thought were good reasons. The only thing wrong with the story are some of the things Madison does to get people to believe her which make her pretty close to the TSTL category. But she does do them for what she feels are the right reasons and to protect. Pierce is a strong hero and you also get to meet his family. All in all, a very good suspense book.

I really enjoyed He Kills me He Kills Me Not by this author and was glad to see Pierce (FBI agent) from that book get his own story. Ms. Diaz writes a great romantic suspense, creepy bad guys and can keep you turning pages. I don't do spoilers but will say, try it! You'll like it!

An interesting and fairly well paced thriller romance. Madison has been calling the police to report a stalker but they never see anyone. A former boyfriend Pierce who is also an FBI agent investigates and does see the guy but he gets shot. This starts a roller coaster of a story where Madison must prove she’s not faking or staging the events and Pierce must deal with her uncooperative ness in her own case. I like the suspense but tbh Madison annoyed me.

All I can do is agree with everyone else who said this h, Madison, is the worst fucking person ever. By the end, I found myself hoping someone would throw her in prison or kill her. Anything to rid us of her presence.

Madison has got to be one of the most awful characters that I've ever read. I can't believe that she's supposed to be twenty-eight years old.

The city of Savannah is home to one of the newest serial killers. The police have nicknamed him Simon Says, as he leaves notes on the bodies of his victims that read, "Simon says die". Special Agent Pierce Buchanan was assigned to the task force investigating the murders and was diligently working with others to put an end to the murder and mayhem. When his best friend, Logan, who was out of the country on his honeymoon, asked Pierce to check on his sister, Madison, he did so. He had almost proposed to Madison once upon a time, but she ended the relationship before he ever had a chance to remove the engagement ring from his pocket. He was not looking forward to seeing her again. He knew it would be a painful reunion for him, but he never expected just how painful it would be--within a matter of minutes from knocking on the door he'd end up with a couple of bruised ribs and a bullet wound.

Madison recently moved to Savannah. She bought a house but didn't move into it right away. When Mrs. Whitmire, the lady she'd hired to manage her property called to ask why she'd fired the management company, she found out someone had sent a letter pretending to be her cancelling the service. That was when Madison decided to go to Savannah and investigate what was going on. After assuring Mrs. Whitmire that she had not sent the letter nor had she signed it, she reinstate all the services and decided to finally make the big move into her new home. That was when she started noticing someone watching her. She'd called the police several times about the man she'd seen outside her home, but by the time the police would finally manage to show up to investigate, the man would be gone. After the third call, the police made it clear that they thought she was looking for attention and making up stories about an alleged stalker. That was when she decided to take matters into her own hands and follow the man. It never occurred to her the man might be armed, nor that she could be endangering herself. She was just fed up. When she finally got a look at the man, she hadn't expected to recognize him. But recognize him she did. It was her husband who had died over 18 months ago, only he didn't look so dead now...

This was such a great romantic suspense story. The doubt cast as to whether Madison's former husband was alive was an excellent plot enhancer. I loved all the drama and surprises the author threw at us as the story progressed. There was never a dull moment. Plus, I loved all the complicated emotional baggage that is attached to a couple that have previously been lovers, but whose relationship has ended, but maybe shouldn't have.

Pierce is a dreamy character. He's described as "strong, solid, reliable, and sexy as hell." He's also smart, sensitive, loyal and gorgeous. I love how even though it's emotionally difficult for him, he goes to check on Madison. I loved his family, which Madison gets to meet, and how they are so protective of him.

Madison was a character with a strong personality who seemed at times incapable of thinking things through. She'd act first and think later. Her brother's nickname for her was trouble, and trouble is definitely what she kept finding herself in. She's described as having built a "tough, sarcastic shield to hide her true emotions." Her outlook is said to have been "jaded" because she was raised by an over protective brother "who constantly warned her how dangerous the world was." She was also afraid to commit to another permanent relationship because her first marriage wasn't the loving, happy marriage she had hoped for.

Favorite lines/quotes:

- "I'm not a 'friends with benefits' kind of guy. I want it all, Mads. All, or nothing."

- "Someone has to take you in hand, and protect the world from you."

- "Jealousy was a useless emotion, and Madison Hated being in its grips."

Overall, this one gets a 4 1/2 out of 5 roses. It was suspenseful, entertaining, and a very enjoyable read. On the Lisarenee Romance Rating Scale, this one gets a FAN rating - the temperature in the room seems to have suddenly gone up a couple of degrees and a fan would be nice. There were definitely a lot of sparks and flares before these two finally ignited their relationship.

I’ve been looking forward to this book as I read Lena Diaz’s debut last year namely ‘He Kills Me, He Kills Me Not’ which I thoroughly enjoyed. I had hoped it would be Pierce and Madison’s book next, asked the author as much and she replied that it was. So, as soon as I received the e-mail from Amazon stating that it was available, I bought it.

Glad I did as it was another entertaining read. I liked Pierce and Madison before and now like them even more. Madison is a hoot, really, and I’m surprised people don’t disperse and run the other way when they are in her vicinity! She’s a gun toting pint sized female whose arguments – with herself – make sense, to me that is. Gosh, she made me laugh on more than one occasion. Heck, I’d be terrified of carrying so many guns because as accident prone as I am, I’d probably shoot my own foot off including other body parts.

Book #2 continues or starts off with Pierce, an FBI agent, on the verge of proposing to Madison, without her knowing, when she breaks off their relationship. She has reason to do so as there are things in her past he doesn’t fully know about. One of them was her strained relationship with her husband, Damon McKinley. Strained may be a mild word as she described him as evil. Damon died in a car accident but not before Madison had shot him – with no intention to kill either, only to stop him leaving after she came across certain irregularities. Really, if she’d wanted to kill him, she would have. She’s left New York and moved to Savannah – not without mishap. Her brother Logan doesn’t call her ‘trouble’ for nothing and you'll see why throughout the story. She’s being threatened, strange things start happening such as notes being left and in particular, she seems to have acquired a stalker. Giving chase after spotting this stalker on more than one occasion, fully armed of course, she’s saved by Pierce who takes a bullet for her. Now, Pierce happened to arrive at the right time as Logan had asked him to check up on his sister. You see, Pierce had moved to Savannah too a few months prior. Tsk Tsk, not only woman like to play matchmaker - Logan couldn’t resist as he was instrumental in coercing Madison to finally leave the big city lights behind. He probably thought she'd get into less trouble in Savannah. He was sadly mistaken.

You can just imagine the chemistry that bounces back and forth between these two (Pierce and Madison) especially as everything that’s happening to Madison kind of sounds like it’s all made up. It seems that whoever is playing this game with her, knows exactly what he’s doing and which particular buttons to push. Pierce believes her, but has moments of doubt too. The police department, including Lieutenant Hamilton, all think she's somehow deluded and that she's the one fabricating it all. It's extremely frustrating and Madison feels like it's all caving in on her. Lies and truths are so closely woven together, one wonders what on earth is going on or who to believe. The twists and turns in this story are plenty which in turn kept me continuously trying to guess – what next? – is it or isn’t it? or what now? I love being in a situation where I (believe) I'm 100% sure that it’s who Madison says it is, but as a multitude of spanners are thrown into the works, I found myself gasping and wondering what the hell was going to happen next.

The plot was very clever indeed and it always amazes me when an author manages to come up with whatever it is a villain is willing to do and go through to reach his goal, no matter what. A highly entertaining cast of characters which includes Pierce’s brothers and stepfather Alex. This isn’t just a story revolving around Pierce and Madison's romance, albeit a lovely one at that, it’s also the story of both their families with Pierce’s in the forefront. Hmm, me thinks that maybe the next book could be about Matt and Tessa? *wiggles eyebrows*.

Ms. Diaz is an author who has impressed me with both her books, and will be one I will permanently keep on my TBR list. Great stuff! Looking forward to the next installment.

This book was so different than the first one I had to keep checking to see if I was reading the right book. I really liked the first book but it was a much more serious romantic suspense book. Not much humor in it. This one I was cracking up in the first chapter.

Pierce Buchanan, the FBI Special Agent we met in the first book, has been asked by his best friend Logan to check up on his sister Madison. Madison and Pierce had a little romance (which was between the two books) and she had broken things off with him and left FL. Turns out they both ended up in Georgia and didn’t know it. Madison is quite the fire cracker and keeps everyone around her on her toes.

Here is an example of the humor – Pierce is about to knock on Madison’s door
“As he raised his hand to knock on Madison’s door again, a man darted around the corner of the house from the backyard and ran to the road out front. A woman with shoulder-length dark hair ran after him. Pierce clenched his jaw. No point in knocking again. Madison wasn’t home. She was chasing a man down the street.”

This results in Pierce getting shot. It turns out Madison has had a stalker and she’d had enough. But the police in Savannah, GA think she is a quack. Every time she has called them out to her house he is gone and there is no trace of him. They even think she has typed the letters she has received to.

Pierce is torn with his feelings toward Madison. On the one hand she ripped his heart in two when she walked away from him and on the other he promised her brother he would keep her out of trouble. That turns out to be a very difficult task as trouble seems to follow Madison where ever she goes.

3.5 stars. I really enjoyed this one although I will admit Madison's behavior got on my nerves a few times and towards the end she had a TSTL moment that drove me crazy. However, I really liked Pierce and I loved the humor in this book. Simon Says Die wasn't as serious as the first book and the suspense wasn't the edge of your seat since you knew who the villain was. I enjoyed the family interactions with Pierce's family and hope to read more about his family in upcoming books.

This was a really good romantic suspense. Madison and Pierce were a couple until he got too close and she broke it off. She was afraid of things moving too fast so she ran. Now she's in Savannah and someone is stalking her. Her brother is on his honeymoon so he sends his best friend to check on her. When Pierce shows up she's chasing an armed man down the street only he's the one who ends up getting shot! From there the sparks fly as he tries to help her. She claims the person after her is her dead husband but all the evidence has the cops believing she's crazy. When even Pierce starts doubting her claims, she knows she's in trouble. Loved Madison's fiestiness and the way she sticks up for herself. Even so she's still vulnerable and in need of Pierce' s help. She's also loyal to those she loves and fiercely protective. Pierce is just as determined to get to the bottom of what's going on and brings in his colleagues at the FBI to help. He knows why Madison lied when she broke it off with him and he still cares about her but he can't think of a life with the woman if he doesn't keep her safe from whoever is harassing her. Very nicely done. Entertaining with plenty of twists and turns.

This is the second in the Deadly Games Series..I had read the 3rd one first, so I got caught up on the characters..Each book can be read alone.

This one is about Madison McKinley. She is the sister to Logan who you will meet in the 1st of this series. Madison is being stalked - by
her dead husband! The police in Savannah, just don't believe her and don't really follow up on the calls.

Meanwhile in GA, the Simon Says killer is striking and they are on the case, so they have little time to worry about a "crazy" woman thinking her dead husband is still around!

FBI Agent - Pierce Buchanan - who worked with her brother Logan on the
"He Kills Me, He Kills Me Not" murderer, met Madison and fell in love
with her.

Pierce comes to help Madison and is the only one that believes her. But all the evidence piling up - bodies in Madison's back yard, the death of her father, all point to Madison.

I really love this author and can't wait until the 4th installment of this series comes out!!

I have been a fan of books and movies that center around seriel killers forever. One of my all time favorite series is the books about Hannibal Lechter by Thomas Harris. I love to scare myself so imagine my delight when I opened an eARC from AVON of SIMON SAYS DIE by Lena Diaz and read the prologue which had the hair standing up on my arms and the back of my neck before I even turned the page to Chapter One.

SIMON SAYS DIE by Lena Diaz is a gripping romance thriller that will have you hooked from the first words. The suspense-filled yet reaffirming romance that emerges from a tension-filled beginning will easily carry you through to the climactic end of SIMON and then make you smile with a touching and sweet epilogue. I highly recommend reading SIMON SAYS DIE by Lena Diaz and I fully intend to read her first Avon Impulse, HE KILLS ME, HE KILLS ME NOT, as soon as I can find the time.

I'm giving this book a 4.5. I really, really wanted to give this book a five. I'd like so much about it. I thought it was funny and I really enjoyed the characters. The romance did seem to progress quite well, although one of the scenes with the couple did feel slightly rushed in my opinion. It was a pretty good read. The only issue that I had with this book is that two characters got mixed up, which kind of gave the reveal away before it was time to give the reveal. Granted, this mistake happen like two or three pages before the " big reveal" happened. However, when it did happen, the suspense was slightly gone for me. Only just a little, but there was still some missing. All in all, it was a good book and I enjoyed it.

I was expecting this to be more sinister than it actually was. I had it in my head that the first one was and so kind of kept putting this one off because I like more romance in my RS than scariness. But this was actually more run of the mill RS. I didn't hate it but didn't love it either. The romance part was only so so and the suspense part really wasn't. Suspenseful, that is. You know who the bad guy is from the get go, the only suspenseful (barely) thing was trying to figure out how he was doing what he was doing. Overall, meh. I'll finish the series just to be done with it, but I'm in no hurry...

I've really been enjoying this series. I started with book 4, then went back and read books 1 & 2. So these can be read as stand alones. Once again, I loved the characters and suspenseful plot. It got a little frustrating how the police never took her seriously and I found ####### SPOILER ALERT###### it a little unbelievable that serial killer and stalker turn out to be the same person. They both had way different MOs and that seems to be serial killer 101 ###### END OF SPOILER ALERT ### ### Nevertheless, an engaging and enjoyable read.

I liked Madison and Pierce in the previous book by Lena Diaz. As the book opened I was excited to see that it was about them, then the story unfolds and I was captivated by the storyline and the emotions of the pair. It is even better than her previous book, which was great! The twists and turn kept me guessing on who was after her. This is a good story to read that allows you to leave your troubles of the real world. I give this book a five and anticipating her next book!!

I don't know where to start with this review. I just adored this book from the very first page. It was funny and a very easy read. By that, I mean the characters were very likable and the plot was very intriguing. Madison was an amazing heroine who was stubborn and, I just loved her. Overall, this book is funny and suspenseful, and a must read!
