A child’s bond with a beloved animal is a powerful one. The loss of a pet due to illness or trauma can be a troubling time in a child’s life. “When You Have to Say Loving and Letting Go of Your Pet” gently describes the why’s surrounding end-of-life issues with animals and details valuable ways for children to move through this experience in a positive fashion. Written by veterinarian Dr. Monica Mansfield, the book’s compassionate wording is brought to life by the poignant yet charming artwork of Lennie Peterson. The loving bonds between children, their animals, and family are illustrated throughout.
Monica Mansfield lives with her family and assorted animals in central Massachusetts. She is a veterinarian by day, collecting stories and situations to eventually commit to paper. The most likely characters to make it to print are those whose owners eventually bring dark chocolate on one of their visits. "The Black Panties: Tales of Animal Mischief and Veterinary Intrigue" is Monica's first published book, and she will be publishing a children's book within the year. Other interests are music and musicians, where Monica produces a rock and roll television program highlighting national and regional folk/rock/R&B artists, named Mostly Rock 'N Roll. As well, she currently serves as the PR committee chair for the Massachusetts Veterinary Medical Association.
