Book five in the Nora Sommer Caribbean Suspense series delves into the dark and desperate corners of the human mind, while Nora attempts to solve the current mystery… and settle an old score.
A USA Today bestselling author, Nicholas Harvey's life has been anything but ordinary. Race car driver, motorsports professional, adventure traveller, divemaster, and since 2020, a full-time novelist. Raised in England, Nick has dual UK and US citizenship and now lives nomadically wherever he and his amazing wife, Cheryl, choose to land for a few months. He is the author of the Nora Sommer Suspense, Kat Cromwell Mystery, and AJ Bailey Adventure series, as well as multiple collaborations.
I flew through Nicholas Harvey’s latest thriller, Losing Sommer, in just two sittings. It starts with a riveting first chapter that had me gasping and begging for answers and I found myself unable to put it down until I had them. With lovable characters who all contribute to the tangled web of a plot, a dazzling setting, and razor-sharp twists and turns, you’re sure to fall in love with this story. And those final scenes?! Buckle your seatbelts and clear your schedule, because you’ll be unable to breathe until you know what’s going to happen! I loved Harvey’s storytelling and his knack for drawing readers into a story so easily it feels like magic. Unputdownable, twisted, and completely thrilling, Losing Summer is sure to be a hit!
Wow! Absolutely the best of the Nora Sommer series by Nicholas Harvey. It is hard not to love Nora Sommers with her stoic demeanor and her quick wit. The story itself is full of twists and turns to keep the reader turning the pages. I am looking forward to a next book of the series!
Nora is a damaged young woman who struggles every day. This book was tough because it took her right to the edge of giving up. But the unadmitted love she has for her friends and Jazzy won't let her give up. These books are raw and honest and page turning. I read it in one sitting. I can't wait to see how she handles the future in the next installment of her story!
Losing Sommer was one of those books I won’t forget for quite some time. I’ve read a lot of Harvey’s books in the past, and this one feels like he hit his stride with both Nora’s character (how she is with people) and her life arc (basically revenge for how she was wronged). It’s rare that a series goes on long enough that you can see real growth in someone you didn’t expect to see – and while I’m sure that Nora won’t be “perfect” moving forward, I do believe that she wants to do better.
This one starts out with a seemingly “simple” suicide – but something itches in the back of Nora’s mind and she can’t figure out why it feels like more than that. The story follows her investigation and her chasing her gut feelings/leads around trying to figure out why a seemingly successful businessman took his life. The interactions she has with different people and the gut feelings that lead her to certain places are top-notch and really make this story shine.
Without spoiling too much, the story is almost a two-parter. The latter part of the story is such an interesting change from the beginning, though Harvey does a wonderful job tying the loose ends and linking them together the best he can. Sommers has been trying to take down the last member of the club where she was abused and he keeps getting away with it. That entire sting operation was fascinating and honestly, Harvey had me riveted to the seat. I couldn’t stop listening even if I wanted to (and I didn’t). The last hour or so flew by and I HAD to know what was going to happen.
Overall, I thought that Losing Sommer shined in an already amazing series. Harvey was showing off his writing prowess a bit here and wrote an absolute knockout of a book, five books deep into this series. I can’t wait to see where Nora goes in her journey
While this was a HEAVY book with lots of deep and dark topics – Harvey nailed them with both accuracy and gentleness.
if you are a fan of the Nora sommer series, you will not be disappointed. This is book five, and probably the most disconcerting. While a good mystery , with two crimes, it focuses on the self destructive actions of Nora. i would have rated it higher but i feel that any Police mentor would have called her out sooner for her disregard for rules. The author has the main character on a path that spirals downwards. The ending , while satisfying for the mysteries, leaves it open as to where she goes next or if she can recover. i liked it.
Another great book by Mr. Harvey. I have missed the Viking for some time as I had to take a little time off from reading. But wow. Right back in the saddle with a great adventure. Nick takes you up and down the emotional scale from the start. Twists and turns one could imagine to get to the bottom of the store. In typical Nora she bends the rules to where it appears its all over. Not a lot of AJ or Reg in this one but don't worry... Its action packed. Great job Nick. Looking forward to the next Viking adventure.
Nora is an individual whose past has left her with deep scars, but those scars make her honesty her bravery and her need to help others more powerful. She never counts the cost to herself ahead of the welfare of the victim, be they friend or stranger. She is a heroine in spite of all that life has thrown at her.
Wow. Another dark, twisted, intricate and fast paced visit with Nora. This author does amazing job hitting difficult situations and making you as a reader really think. I can’t believe I’m all caught up and looking forward to next book.
The determination Nora puts in her work come thru in the end ad her demons keep coming back her journey to place a culprit in jail takes on new strides as she has to use jazzy to help her . Then its off to how to solve a suicide.. Ciao from Bobbie and George..pura vida...
I love this series. In this book Nora is first on the scene of the suicide of a rich man, although a clear cut case of suicide, some things just don’t add up. The case pushes Nora to the edge, hopefully we'll see her come back.
I'm amazed that this author can write so many fantastic novels, I hope that he never stops writing. His books are some of the best Entertainment I have read and worth the time to read them. Thank you for a very fun entertaining read.
The bottom line is I enjoy Mr Haryey’s series with Nora Sommer. When reading them (and the AJ Bailey series) I feel like I’m spending time with friends. A good feeling.
Constable Nora Sommer is first on the shocking death scene of business tycoon Perry Collins. The man's curious demise intrigues Nora, who goes the extra mile for the grieving young widow, in order to get to the truth. Who are Raylene and Nick? Help from partner Constable Jacob and support from friends old and new pull Nora away from her often, seemingly self-destructive path, as she determines to lay the ghosts of her past to rest, and save potential future victims from suffering the same fate.
