Cold Justice

Rate this book
After overcoming missed connections, murder accusations, and years of living lives apart, Regi and Samuel's happily ever after is finally within reach. On the eve of their wedding, however, Samuel disappears, and Regi wonders if he has once again run away from both a life with her and a membership in the Church. Quite the opposite; Samuel has been kidnapped by the Raven Clan, a powerful Alaskan tribe, and is en route to stand trial in front of their justice council for a puzzling crime that happened years ago. When Regi and Samuel's close friends suspect a kidnapping, Regi with the help of her sister, Claudia, and friend Wakanda resolves to follow Samuel to Alaska but soon learns secrets about her fiancé she hadn't bargained for. While Samuel struggles with his faith and with understanding why he has been accused, Regi risks life and love to set him free.

I enjoy the suspense novels where someone is in trouble and others are trying to find the clues to either help them or rescue them. Here, Sam is in jail in Alaska and Regi has gone to Alaska to clear his name for a crime he did not commit. So lots of twists and turns and the ending was good - a real nail biter.

Alaska is not on the agenda for Regi and Samuel the day before their wedding. But, Samuel's kidnapping will take them there and into suspense and danger. "Happily ever after" will take all of their love and strong will to get there. Lots of mystery and great characters make up this book.

Wonderful sequel filled with mystery, excitement, and hope. I really enjoyed the legend woven throughout the story that mirrored the struggle the main characters were going through.

3.5 rounded up - good, clean mystery. Some predictably and cheesy epilogue but interesting story

This is a sequal to River Whispers. Although I think you could read it without the first one. Good clean suspense

Cold Justice is the sequel to River Whispers and it picks up not too long after the first book ended. Regi and Sam are finally getting married, right after Sam's baptism in the LDS church. The big problem is that Sam is a no show for both his baptism and his wedding. Did he run out on his soon to be bride? The clues all point to something else and the adventure to Alaska begins. I found this fast paced mystery/suspense kept me reading, and not wanting a break. Though the reader knows some of the mystery, you don't know "who done it" and why. This is not revealed until the very end. I have to admit, I almost had it all figured out before then. That's half the fun of reading a mystery/suspense.

I liked the main characters of Regi and Samuel from reading River Whispers. It didn't take me long to remember them and their relationship. Though this story could stand alone, I recommend that you read River Whispers first. Having the history behind Regi's and Sam's relationship, will help you understand the motivations behind why both of them take the chances that they do to save each other.

The setting of the story was interesting, freezing Alaska during the Winter, featuring the fictional Raven Clan, a powerful Alaskan tribe and their customs. You could tell that Kathi did her research on Native people. I also enjoyed parts of the Native Alaskan myths that started each chapter.

Once again Kathi has written a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat, have you talking/screaming to the characters to not do something that you know will get them in trouble, appreciating a nice romance, and making you think about the power of God in your life. Cold Justice brings the wild Alaskan land and sea alive, quite vividly through Kathi's writing. The stories of supporting characters Wakanda, Trace and Tucker will also touch your heart. Cold Justice will be a cool read during these warm summer months.

I liked the unexpectedness in the events of the plot and the continuing story of Regi and samuel from Peterson's earlier book. It seems just as life is going the direction that you want it, a spin is thrown in throwing off all of your plans. Murder charges,a kidnapping, an unexpected trip to Alaska, and the Alaskan Raven clan are all part of the thickening plot that leads you on an adventure to finding out the truth.

Samuel Tanner and Regi are finally going to have their happily ever after, with Samuel's scheduled baptism and their wedding close after, life couldn't be better. At least that is what they thought until, Samuel is a no show at his baptism. Regi is at first worried that something happened to him, but then believes that he ran off again like in the past, deserting her and their thought shared dreams. When the truth is revealed that Samuel was kidnapped and that he is being taken to stand trial for a murder he didn't do in Alaska, Regi's fiesty self, her diplomatic sister, Claudia, and Wakanda, her trusted friend go to the rescue. In the process they uncover some of Wakanda's past which have lead to her current life choices.

I don’t know what to say about his book. There are two things I don’t like about books written by members of the church. First they seem to think if they don’t bear there testimony they are not a good member. Second authors think they need to make fun of the church. They bring out something that is odd about the church and milk it for all it is worth. This book falls in the first category. The whole Joseph Smith first vision is told in the story along with if I only had a Book of Mormon to give to this person. This author is a good member missionary. Past the member missionary, I liked the story and would recommend the story to you.

This is a good LDS mystery/romance that is a continuation of the story in "River Whispers." Just as Regi and Samuel are going to get married, Samuel is kidnapped and taken to Alaska to stand trial for murder. Actually, the tribe has already decided he's guilty, so it's more of a kangaroo court where he's guilty and doesn't have a chance to prove himself innocent. Some people are turned off by a "preachy" book, but I loved that both Samuel and Regi depended upon the Lord to guide them and help them.

Cold Justice is the sequel to River Whispers. It starts right off with suspense. I really enjoyed the characters - Regi and Samuel . . . and even the bad guys. There was some fun humor to break up the "Holy cow! What's going to happen???" suspense, which was good for me. I loved the traveling, the descriptions and how it was all woven into the plot, making the character's predicaments even more compelling. Cold Justice is a great summer read for suspense lovers!

LDS Fiction

3.5 stars, rounding up on this one.

It took me awhile to remember the book before this one and click back into the story and characters.

The setting was way too cold for me. I never want to go to Alaska. I'm such a wimp. And, if I were ever to go, I never want to get there by the methods of travel experienced in this book!

A good light suspense/mystery. :)

I felt like there was more of a focus on churchy stuff than there was on the actual mystery... which, overall, isn't such a bad thing... BUT it would have been a lot better if there was more of a focus on the action and mystery, and less of a focus on all the fluffy churchy stuff.
I don't think LDS fiction has to be uber churchy to be LDS fiction.

Samuel didn't show up for his baptism...
Will he show up for his wedding tomorrow or has he run out on Regi again...
Feeling that he wouldn't run this time Regi sets out to find him.
Her search leads her to Alaska and the Raven Clan...
Can she find Samuel before it is too late?
Filled with suspense this story will take you on an amazing adventure.

The plot was great and I enjoyed the twists and turns in the narrative. But I didn't really like the sentimentality that, at times, was over the top. I suppose this book had two different genres: mystery/adventure and romance. The mystery/adventure part was very intriguing, but the romance part didn't seem very realistic in some ways ... or perhaps it was just lost on me.

Regi and Samuel are a day away from getting married when Samuel is kidnapped and taken back to his Alaskan tribe to stand trial for murder. This story covers the adventure of both Samuel being taken back to Alaska from Idaho and Regi discovering that he has been kidnapped and following the trail to Alaska to help Samuel. Another predictable but this time exciting adventure.

Although it is second in the series, I think you could enjoy it without reading the first one. I loved watching some of the characters grow and develop, although I felt like it took a long time to get to the final conflict and it ended too fast. Still a good read.

This is a good sequel to "River Whispers". This book continues the story of Regi, Samuel, Claudia, and Wakanda. Samuel is kidnapped and taken to Alaska where he is accused of killing his mentor. Regi, Claudia, and Wakanda follow him.

I really enjoyed this sequel and felt it really added a lot to River Whispers! I loved all of the "minor" characters, and how they all had to work together in order to help them! Getting to know more about everyone really helped me feel a part of the story. I really liked it.

This book was more predictable than River Whispers. There was still some suspense, but I picked out the murderer before it came out in the book.
