He was a man who took what he wanted. And he wanted her.
To escape her cruel stepfather, seamstress Alexandra Cogsworth envisioned sailing far from England...though not as a captive aboard a pirate's ship.
Pirate captain Nathaniel Kent's strategy for exacting revenge on his coldhearted father involved taking a valuable hostage...not a seamstress he mistakenly thinks is his half sister.
Yet fate has designs of its own, landing them both on board the Royal Vengeance. At sea, Nathaniel intercepts and plunders his father's ships, all the while tormented by his illicit hunger for the tempting prisoner he thinks is his blood relation. And although Alexandra wants no part in this terrifying voyage, to reveal her true identity to the handsome, blue-eyed Nathaniel would invite danger. Not only would she become worthless cargo, but the revelation would surely unleash what she and Nathaniel have been fiercely battling--a rising undercurrent of impossible desire that could sweep them away for good.
HONOR BOUND
To some men honor is just a word….
Jeannette Boucher, a young French beauty from a family left penniless by the revolution, must marry against her will to save them all from ruin. But almost immediately after the vows are spoken, she learns that her old English husband is impotent—and in his desire for an heir, he plans to compromise her in the worst way.
Determined to escape such a fate, she stows away on one of His Majesty’s frigates. But a woman alone is in constant danger.
To Lieutenant Treynor, honor means everything….
Born a bastard to a wayward marquise, Lieutenant Crawford Treynor was given to a poor farmer to raise and was maltreated until he ran away to join the Royal Navy. Treynor is determined to prove he’s as good as any other man and rise to captain his own frigate. But once he finds Jeannette aboard The Tempest he must decide whether to return her to the man he knows would abuse her—or risk everything, even his life, to keep her safe.
It was a shocking experience that jump-started Brenda Novak’s bestselling author career.
“I caught my day-care provider drugging my children with cough syrup and Tylenol to get them to sleep while I was away,” Brenda says. “It was then that I decided that I needed to do something from home.”
However, writing was the last profession she expected to undertake. In fact, Brenda swears she didn’t have a creative bone in her body. In school, math and science were her best subjects, and when it came time to pick a major in college, she chose business.
Abandoning her academic scholarship to Brigham Young University at the age of 20 in order to get married and start a family, Brenda dabbled in commercial real estate, then became a loan officer.
“When I first got the idea to become a novelist, it took me five years to teach myself the craft and finish my first book,” Brenda admits. “I learned how to write by reading what others have written. The best advice for any would-be author: read, read, read….”
Brenda sold her first book, and the rest is history. Now a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, she continues to publish two or three novels a year, in a variety of genres.
Brenda and her husband, Ted, live in Sacramento and are the proud parents of five children—three girls and two boys. Now that they are empty-nesters, she spends her free time babysitting her two grandchildren.
When she’s not with her family or writing, Brenda is usually raising money for diabetes research. To date, she's raised almost $2.6 million. Her youngest son, Thad, has diabetes, and Brenda is determined to help him and others like him. She also enjoys traveling, watching sporting events and biking--she rides an amazing 20 miles every day!
Of Noble Birth & Honor Bound was a great read by Brenda Novak. Of Noble Birth follows Alexandra and Nathaniel on a voyage they never expected. Nathaniel kidnaps her while trying to kidnap his half sister. Honor Bound follows Jeanette and Lieutenant Treynor. Jeanette is trying to escape the marriage that she didn’t want and that’s when she met Treynor. This was a great read by Brenda Novak, I can’t wait to read more by her.
This is two books -- Of Noble Birth and Honor Bound. I enjoyed the first one much more than the second.
Both books are set at sea and involve a heavy forced proximity element in addition to physical peril to the F MC. In the second, it dipped too much into that for my enjoyment -- Jeannette is regularly threatened with assault or straight out assaulted (including by the male MC, who actually hits her to "discipline" her). Some readers may like this high level of danger, but her spending most of the book actively fearing assault or getting beaten was too stressful for me.
Due to the sea component and both male MCs dealing with thorny issues of parentage, they had a similar feel despite the plots being pretty different. If I had read them individually and not at the same time, I don't think it would have been an issue - but they had a very samey feel due to that.
So far this is pretty good, I'm writing my reviews for the books on the actual books though. Enjoy! I liked both of these book pretty well. I would enjoy reading them again, especially as a rainy-day reads.
Deceptively pared together these two books have NOTHING to do with each other. That being said I really enjoyed both of them. Of Noble Birth was my favorite though. I'm really digging these historical romances.
These novels presented a pleasant read, but not an award winner. I felt the first was considerably better than the second. I enjoyed the novels overall , but I felt the plot was a bit obvious in places and sometimes the point of view shiftedbetween characters like a tennis rally
I have always enjoyed Brenda Novak s book and these two historical romance stories did not disappoint. Great story lines along with good strong likeable characters. Love these romance stories from this era..
There is nothing better than imagining being in love with a swarthy looking man. Nothing better to get a woman feeling like a real woman. Maybe men should read a few for pointers. LOL
Both of these books were excellant. I couldn't stop reading them. They are two different books and different in characters but romance was the same. Great read!!
