Ellen Todd calls off her wedding to Paul Kendall the night before, believing it’s what God wants. Her decision sets off a chain of events that trap Ellen in guilt, lies, and deception for nine years. Then along comes a dream job at the estate of Rand Powers. Ellen prays it will be the beginning of a new life, but she soon discovers how wrong she is. Falling in love with her boss just creates more turmoil.
Rand Powers can’t get over the way his fiancée dumped him at the altar five years ago because of his cancer diagnosis. He vows never to love again and no force on earth or in Heaven can change his mind…until Ellen Todd enters his life as a companion to his great aunt, Dolly, who is on a mission to find a wife for her nephew.
As soon as they meet, Rand and Ellen start a divine journey toward love, but issues in their lives threaten to steer them off course. They find out fast that their faith must be strong enough for Ellen to become the nephew’s wife.
This book started off with an interesting premise. Ellen has broken her engagement with Paul because he isn’t the spiritual man she thought he was. Then the unthinkable happens and he is in a horrific crash. She feels guilty and nurses him for a long time until he succumbs and she is grieving. She needs a job after such a long time as the suffering fiancée, according to the news. Rand Powers is a wealthy Christian businessman who needs a companion for his widowed Aunt Dolly who is recovering from a stroke. Rand is still upset with his intended, Lana, for ditching him when she found out he was ill. Naturally, Ellen applies for the job and things are beginning to look up. Enter people from the past and things get sticky. I was struck by how Ellen and Rand were reliant on their faith and seemed to grow spiritually together. But then guilt crept in. This is one if the times when you want the characters to just tell the truth and be honest with one another! But then the problems would be solved and the story would stall. The writing was smooth and interesting for the most part but I tired of the rehashing thoughts and reasons why things happened in the past and why characters felt guilty and could not move on. My favorite character was Aunt Dolly who was feisty, stern but had a heart if hold and faith filled wisdom. *I purchased this ebook from Amazon. All opinions are my own. *
Such a sweet book. I loved it and devoured it. God is always active in our lives no matter how down we get on ourselves. This book shows that the good people do win and true love is very patient.
