This series is so much better than Twilight. The story is better. The relationship is better. I cried at the end of this book. I just love James. Disappointed I have to wait until next spring for the final book. Get the first two from Barnes and Noble while they're free.

This is a great sequel to what is going to be an awesome trilogy. I was very excited to read this book after I enjoyed the first so much. Ms. Allard has such a way of weaving history and fiction together that draws you in and makes you 'see' the actual events happening before you. You feel like you are there, you can see the history and feel it's relation to the story before you. Normally if you mentioned reading about history, you might think that sounds boring, but not the way Ms. Allard writes it. You want to know more. In this book she weaves in the story of the "The Trail of Tears". I remember that from high school, but don't remember much, but now she has me wanting to know more. All of that is just a bonus, because the story of Sarah and James is so perfect and engrossing, that you won't want to put the book down. I really enjoyed getting to know them better along with some of the secondary characters we were introduced to in the first book. You get to know characters on a deeper level and feel like you're there with them watching the scenes unfold. I would say my only disappointment right now is that the final book isn't out yet because I seriously need to know what happens next!! I was emotionally blown away by the end of this book and it's left me hungering for more.

How to describe what I'm feeling right now?
This second book was breathtaking, I needed to stop a couple of times to catch my breath.
I was feeling so sad, tears came and I just could not stop them ...
There is one book that could do this to me, but this one was overwhelming.
If you can touch me that way than you are worth more than 6 stars !!

The end of book 2 makes me feel desperate, because I want to know more ...
But I know I have to wait ...
It's going to be very hard, but if James and Sarah can do it, than I can do it !!

James and Sarah touched my heart and I love them.

Thank you Meredith ...

I've been looking forward to reading Her Loving Husband's Curse ever since I read the first book in the trilogy, Her Dear and Loving Husband, and it was absolutely worth the wait!

As the book begins, Sarah is finally reunited with her husband, vampire James Wentworth, and both are living happy, productive lives: He is an English professor at Salem State University in Massachusetts, (teaching night classes, of course!) while she is a university librarian. Unfortunately for the couple, however, Kenneth, Hempel, the reporter from the first book who proved to be such an annoyance in his quest to discover the truth about vampires, is back. He claims to have proof that vampires exist, and this time he's naming names.
Will James be found out, and what will happen then? Will everything blow over eventually, or will fear and paranoia take over?

Meredith Allard very cleverly parallels the events in this book with some of American History's less-than-stellar achievements, among them the Salem Witch Trials and the Trail of Tears, and the result is a story that is emotional without being overwhelming, and enlightening without being preachy.

James and Sarah are a great couple. They were reunited against what should have been impossible odds, and they've been given a second chance. Their love shines through on every page!

In addition to James and Sarah, Her Loving Husband's Curse had some great supporting characters that I was happy to learn more about, especially Jennifer and Olivia and their connection to James. It was also good to meet up with Timothy and his adopted family, and to learn more about Chandresh. The most intriguing new character was one Dr. Masters, who appeared to give up so much, seemingly at the drop of a hat, to help people he hardly even knew, and I'm sure there must be a story there.

According to the notes at the end, the third book of the trilogy should be out by around this time next year, and I, for one, wish the year could go by faster so that I could have it in my hands that much sooner!

This is book 2 of a Trilogy, and this is one that did not disappoint. If you have read the first book, you will love this one! The main characters, James and Sarah are back again, newly married, and are living in bliss really, but something threatens their happiness that has to due with James's immortality. There were also great historical aspects here, and if you enjoy history, you would probably appreciate this story. This was a well written novel and like the first book, there was a good flow, from scene to scene, chapter to chapter. If you have not started this series, now would be perfect as after you read book one, you can dive into book 2, and if you have read book 1, you will really enjoy this addition to the trilogy, as it was just great! :)

Her Loving Husband’s Curse
Author: Meredith Allard

Raven Mockers are evil spirits. All they care about is prolonging their own life force by feeing from others to do it. Torturing the dying and quickening their deaths in order to consume the heart of the victim and lengthening their life span by the number of years the victim still had to live. An interesting prologue and dialogue between two characters. This is where our story begins. Take a trip to Salem Massachusetts along with Sarah, James, Olivia and the rest of the characters from Her Dear and Loving Husband as author Meredith Allard brings them back to life in this though provoking, research based and heartfelt novel Her Husband’s Curse.

Salem Mass was a magical place to Sarah Wentworth. The seaside, the calmness, the lack of rushing like in big cities and the people comforted her. Her home drew her to it and compelled her to know it just looking at it for the first time. James Wentworth her husband is no ordinary man. James is a vampire who sleeps during the day and works as an English Professor at night. As the author brings the reader along with the characters as she vividly describes the streets, the humidity in the air and the experiences that that brought them together we can feel the love in the air but we know that something is about to happen. Meeting with her Wiccan friends you can feel the tension in the gallery and the last minute adjustments that still have to be made. The exhibition, an artistic interpretation of the Salem Witch Trials brought it all to life. Depicting the scenes, the dungeons, the figures chained created the events in a realistic way bringing shudders to many who viewed them, flashbacks of events they experienced in the past and the dangers that might befall them in the future. As Olivia explains what they endured to those present Sarah’s mind drifts back to the past and relives it again in her thoughts. Comforting Sarah was soon negated as she turned her attention to her husband who looked twisted, tormented and more. As they viewed the exhibit he became transfixed on a woman trapped between the walls. Panicked, and fearful he realized just who the woman was and took hold of Sarah. Remembering she was Elizabeth in her past life the thoughts that came to him brought more than fear into his heart and eyes. Sarah relieved the loss of her child 300 years ago and in order to create some normalcy they decided to meet with their family and here is where things really heat up.

Imagine living during the Salem witch trials, the American Revolution, the Civil War and even World War II? James did. But Sarah had a past all of her own, taking her from James and now that they have finally married and reunited what was going to happen? Would anything tear them apart again? But, as the family comes together a cold feeling envelops Sarah followed by an odd visit from her ex-husband with a confrontation and conversation that would hopefully deter him from ever returning.

But, the past is about to come full circle in the present as the reporter from Her Dear and Loving Husband resurfaced in full force this time. Reporter Kenneth Hempell is relentless and will stop at nothing to bring to light that vampires might be living in this quiet community. Republishing his article from the news in a blog he stirs up more than just a cauldron of spirits. Trying to prove in the past that James was a vampire did not pan out for this man and he took him off of his list. But, did he erase his name from the original one and would anyone find it in the future?

Hempell was about to unleash a demon more powerful than anything that anyone could conjure up and what happens will terrify not only James but also an entire village. Friends that are vampires, children that were turned and people living in the community would all be affected when the article is published. When people are different and they do not meet the standards or fit the mold of others they are often shunned and cast aside. Sometimes what is about to happen will rock the core of this community, create decent among those living there but bring down a hammer so heavy and create a vampire hunt more deadly and wicked than the Salem Witch Trials.

When his superior at the college to teach a course in Vampire Literature he hesitates before accepting the position approaches James. What happens will change the way everyone sees him and the course he hopes will help students understand more about the history and literature than the fact he is one of them. But, one student’s eyes say it all and the discussions get heated but interesting. The end result will definitely not be what he had hoped. One reporter would change the world, their lives and the perspective of so many because he could not let his inner thoughts or feelings go.

Chandresh Mankiller was a vampire because James turned him in order to give him some life. Jennifer would stand by him always. Working along with Sarah at the college library not only cemented their friendship but also gave Sarah the support system and friends she needed in the present and would need in the future.

What if James taught the class from the point of view of the vampire? How interesting that would be! But, Sarah’s fitful dream would bring him back to reality and the thoughts of her lost child came front and center in her dreams. Parenthood was something that she always wanted and he did not because of his curse as he put it. But, when Sarah relates her dream and he hears a voice saying Yes things change for the positive and with the help of many they find themselves at an orphanage. But, what happens here is quite unique as a child is just dropped off whose name is Grace. Grace is the name of Sarah’s unborn child that she lost 300 years ago. Could this be her Grace?

In between the present the author allows James to flashback to the past to his life with the Indians, what they endured at the hands of the soldiers and army and what happens to many of them. As Kenneth Hempell reenters into the picture and posts the names of those he’s accusing of being a vampire. Many comments made on this blog and most disbelieve what he says. But, when he is brutally murdered in his own home the police and the government have no choice but continue with what he started. Throwing a shadow of doubt and fear into the public the media creates a frenzy that would rock the world of so many and change more than just one life. As Grace and Sarah bond the outside world is changing and many will be detained just because of what others think and say.

The author flashbacks to the Trail of Tears and more about what the Indians endured and how it affected his friend Chandresh and how he saved his life. The truth is harsh but Sarah needed to know. As the story continues and the events recounted the author relates just who those two people were in the prologue and what James learned from the medicine man calling him a Raven Mocker. Even more he understood the true meaning of the word Curse. Kenneth Hempell might be dead but his thoughts and work live on as someone publishes his list, the government decides to bear down on those they think are vampires and guilty is passed over them even without a trial.

But, tragedy ensues when James and Sarah decide on an evening out after having to flee their own home and move to Maine. An SUV hits them and Sarah remains critical in the hospital with James at her side. At the same time the school where Grace has been attending told her parents before the accident she can no longer attend for fear she might bite the other students. Guilt by association or just plain prejudice.

But, as the cast comes together and the voices of so many are heard the end result will rip out more than a heart that a Raven Mocker might want from a tortured victim. When fear is instilled in the public and those that are ignorant are heard what finally happens will tear more than just one family apart. Attacks on many of the vampires, some detained for long periods of time and an ending that will separate so many in this second book of the Loving Husband Trilogy. Author Meredith Allard keeps the reader so spellbound to the printed page you might think there is a special spell or incantation attached to the pages in order to make sure that once you start reading it you don’t put it down until you come to the surprise ending. Just what is the fate of James, Timothy, Geoffrey and the rest? What will happen next? Why are so many being hunted, detained and branded before they know the truth? The answers will be found in the final book. Filled with research, real events and a plot that is so interesting you won’t stop reading it until you are finished once again author Meredith Allard pens a five star novel which brings to light the issues of friendship, loyalty, prejudice, hate, deceit, lies and true love. Which prevails? Read the book and decide for yourself.

A vampire that has lived 350 years, having melded into human society, as a professor at the local University. Teaching English literature was easy, when you personally had known some of the authors.
However, vampires are conceived by society as blood sucking fiends. The movie and literature on the species, did nothing to endear them to humans. So to make known thatt what was mythical creatures, are actually real. Well, it didn't go well for witches in the 17th Century, and even though humans had evolved, there are always those that fear the unknown, and react through that fear.
What happens next is what makes this a superlative tale.

The story is too long.

The book is entertaining but is is way too long. The repetitive declarations of the loving feelings is way overstated constantly throughout the book. To the point I would speed read through those passages.

Her Loving Husband’s Curse starts just after Her Dear and Loving Husband left off. James and Sarah are very happy to be reunited and are enjoying the life they have with one another. But when you have as much history together as these two have you eventually have to face your past.

I love Allard’s storytelling ability. The way she filled Her Loving Husband’s Curse with so much history and emotion made me feel as if I was in the story. Allard’s writing is just stellar.

James loves his life with Sarah and will do anything to protect it. I like James's character and I can understand the fact that he lost Sarah once so it is easy to see why he would want to be overprotective of her, but it did drive me a little batty that every time he would learn something that he thought would upset Sarah he just didn’t tell her. There is a lot of danger surrounding them and they both needed to stay on their toes.

I really felt for Sarah throughout Her Loving Husband’s Curse. Sarah starts out by facing her past and everything she went through so long ago in Salem. I loved seeing her strength and tenacity while still seeing her vulnerability.

I thought this was great:

James is asked to teach a vampire literature class. I loved this little bit of humor thrown into the story. James loathes all the dumb vampire books out in the world because they all get it wrong :)

“I bet you know more than you think. There’s that book that’s so popular with the
girls these days. What is it?”
“I don’t know.”
“Sure you do. The one about the sparkly kid?”
“Twilight.”
“That’s it. I was thinking the class could cover the development of vampire literature.
People think Bram Stoker’s Dracula was the first vampire novel, but it wasn’t. Sheridan
Le Fanu’s novel Carmilla and Varney the Vampire by James Malcolm Rymer came
first.”
This whole conversation was a lot of fun to read!

Another thing that Meredith Allard did so well, and I have touched on this already, her ability to weave all the history that James has seen into the story. I knew about The Trail of Tears before but now I feel as though I have a personal account of the horrors lived through during that time.

My one complaint:

The pace was a bit off for me in this one. I think it had something to do with the setup because the second half of the book moved very fast for me. I couldn’t hit the page button fast enough.

I know I haven't given a lot away in this review but that is because practically everything I want to say is a spoiler. I will say that I did love the fact that the supporting cast is all back from the first book. I don’t know how Allard is going to wrap this trilogy up from the way she ended this one. I feel like so much needs to happen to keep James and Sarah together… and everyone safe.

There was an echo to James’s voice when he said, “I’ll never leave you ever,” and Sarah realized she was afraid that one day he wouldn’t be there. But that will never happen, she thought. He promised me he would never leave me, and I believe him.
And she did.

If you have not read Her Dear and Loving Husband start with that before you read Her Loving Husband’s Course. This love story is truly beautiful and worth the read.

Happy reading,
Rebecca

I received the book from the touring host for an honest review.

Her Loving Husband's Curse is the second book in the Trilogy, and I was fortunate to read the first as well. Book 2 continues a year later as the lives of James and Sarah comes more under the spotlight; now married and trying to make a normal life for themselves.

In book 1 we met them as single people, both searching for something they could only find with each other. As Sarah's dreams led them towards each other, secrets and mysteries unfolded that made that book an amazing read. Sarah was led to the town of Salem where she discovered she had a husband and was pregnant. But the biggest shock had been that she was hanged as a witch during the Witch hunt of 1692.

James, her husband, now vampire waited for her for over three hundred years to return to him. A very unique love story that takes you back to that horrific time in history.

Now they were ready to move on as a 'normal' couple but once again dreams terrified Sarah with no idea of what it meant. James had more secrets that he kept from her, all to protect her from his curse. The more things unruffled in the book, the more he cursed the life he was leading, not willing that his family would suffer from the curse.

In this book the focus was on the Trails of Tears and what the Cherokee people endured during that time in history. It was a very emotional and horrific time; the author had woven it into the story brilliantly; helping you to understand what they'd experienced on that three month long road where loved ones were left dead, with barely enough water or food to survive the harsh conditions.

We met many of the previous characters in this book once again, with a few new ones to add more twists in the tale. Kenneth Hempel is back of course, determined to expose the vampire community to the world through his blog. With more focus on James as he tries to avoid the frenzy he knew would follow. With Hempel's death it just exhilarated.

As with all myths there is pro and cons of why we need to know the truth and people's reactions remained the same; if it were during the Witch trails or the Trails of Tears, people's attitudes never changed; I think the author did a wonderful work highlighting this fact.
Once again I was touched by the author's compassionate writing as she wrote this book with the high and lows of humanity and how we react to the unfamiliar, and I was not disappointed at all. The emotional roller coaster as James searched for answers to protect the woman he loves with all his 'heart'. His devotion to Sarah was astounding, his love visible in every word and touch.

Both the characters have grown in their relationship with each other, both looking for more in life, ready to settle and have a family; each established in their careers. When the parenting question came to light, you knew more twist will follow. Once again the author took the paranormal further but yet kept it realistic and believable.
I think it's a great edition to this series and I cannot wait to start with book 3.

I must say I was absolutely blown away with the first two books in this amazing trilogy. It has everything I love to read about, vampires, witches, Salem, mystery, a great love story, magic, werewolves, and twists & turns like you would never see coming cause I didn't.

Moving to Salem had been something Sarah had been thinking about for some time, after divorcing her ex-husband she had packed up and left Los Angles to start her new life. Hoping her change of location would put a stop to the dreams she has been having, dreams of a faceless man.....it didn't stop them.

I had a chance a while back to speak with Meredith Allard, I was supposed to read/review but my computer had crashed and I had lost all of my books so when I was asked to review again through Bewitching Book Tours I jumped at the chance having wanted to read for some time. When I had spoke to Meredith and had a chance to ask a few questions one was on the research she did for this novel. I was very impressed that she travelled to Salem to do her research and I loved seeing her pictures on her website she took while there. It always impresses me when an author puts so much time and effort into their research and writes with accurate times, dates and the stories being told are accurate as well.

The first book for me was a job well done, creating the characters, the story line, and the detail Meredith put into describing and setting the stage for the first of three novels was outstanding, it pulled me into the story and held me it captivated me. Leading into book two it wasn't just another story about vampires, werewolves and witches. It was much more than that, yes it's a Paranormal novel but it also tells of a story that can be very much related to today's times, of what other cultures have to go through when their culture is not understood and people are scared of what they have heard through gossip or word of mouth, not by getting to know a person and understanding for themselves, seeing a person for who they really are not what they are.

When I was almost to the end of the second book, I had to slow down my reading as I really did not want the story to end, I was bonding with the characters, with their situation, cheering on their love story and for the fairy tale ending, but of course it being the second book I was left with a cliffhanger that left my jaw hanging open. I couldn't believe my eyes when I read the last chapter. I can't wait for the third book to come out and hope it's soon. This really is a must read and I know you will all enjoy it as much as I did!!!

Her Loving Husband’s Curse by Meredith Allard is the second in the The Loving Husband Trilogy. I really enjoyed the first in the series Her Dear and Loving Husband so I was anxious to read this one as well to see what would happen next. Once again I listened to the audio version which is narrated by Laura Jennings. I really enjoy listening to her. She has a soft tone to her voice and is very good at using different inflections for different characters. She really makes the story come alive and that really added to my enjoyment of the book.

I really want to be very general about this book because saying too much can give away parts of the story that you get from the first book and then the second and that would just ruin it for anyone wanting to experience it for themselves. In this installment we find James and Sarah happily married but Sarah is now haunted by memories of a child she once carried in a past life and this leaves her wanting a child for her and James. Being a vampire James can’t father a child so they turn to adoption and find the perfect baby in Grace.

All seems to be coming together for them until Kenneth Hempel, the reporter, starts again with his vicious rumors of vampires living and working among the innocent citizens of Salem. It isn’t long before things are out of control and James and Sarah must decide what to do to keep Grace and themselves safe.

This sequel expertly weaves actual events in history such as the Salem Witch Trials and the Trail of Tears into Sarah and Jame’s stories. I found this part of the story very interesting as I hadn’t even known of the Trail of Tears before. I love how Meredith takes the reader back in time and enlightens us to a time in history while giving us a modern and page-turning story. That’s one of the reasons I love this series so much.

Meredith truly has a talent with words and I would be remiss in not saying how beautifully written this book is. This is not just another vampire novel! This book is so much more with the emotional elements of Sarah and Jame’s lives together and now with baby Grace all woven together with their past lives. I do suggest starting with the first book Her Dear and Loving Husband otherwise you may find yourself a bit lost plus it would be a shame to lose out on any part of this great series. Highly recommended!

This is the second book in the only vampire series I will probably ever read, and it was just as amazing (if not more so)than the first book. Attempting to explain the reason I thoroughly enjoy this book is extremely difficult to convey. Generally, I read historical fiction, romances, and inspirational fiction. Beyond the shadow of a doubt, this book does not belong in any of those categories. It is a paranormal romance, but it far supersedes that denotation. Indeed, this book encapsulates romance, history, mystery, suspense, and more. All of this is interwoven into the essence of the book without detailed bedroom scenes and with only minimal profanity (there is more profanity in this book than the first, but it is still far less than a majority of books currently published). I can say this to you in complete verity--I struggled to put this book down and read it in the span of a couple short hours. The ending is inconclusive, and I absolutely must read the final book in the trilogy!

As I considered the underlying reason for my enamorment with this novel, I discovered that this book along with "Phantom of the Opera," "Wicked," "Frankenstein," and other similar books have a definite sway over me. Although I know that evil is present in this world, I do not believe that evil is always so easy to pinpoint. All too often, what we mistakenly assume is evil is just the opposite, and what we deem good is only masquerading as such. It is absolutely thrilling to consider the prospect that vampires may not be the monsters of legends and myths that are so rampant in our culture. What if there were vampires with redeeming qualities?

However, this unbelievable author has made yet another statement in this particular book. By using vampires as her premise, she has given the most amazing treatise on racism, prejudice, and ostracizing those who are different. She also has put forth a well-written Native American history with which I can connect. This book is a quick enough read, but the messages buried within the fiber of the story are deep and meaningful.

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

Loving Husband Trilogy is more of a romance than anything and similar to Deborah Harkness' All Souls Trilogy so I think even non-paranormal readers would be able to appreciate the books. The predominant themes are forbidden love and because MAllard didn't really highlight James' vampire habits as threatening, one can compare his and Sarah's relationship to that of an interracial couple or even a partnership that has conflicting political/cultural/religious views. Very contemporary if you ask me. What resonated most to me was the concept of destiny and the romantic notion of soulmates and reincarnation. I know it sounds fantastical but how can anyone not like a love story built on that premise?

Today's review is on Her Loving Husband's Curse by Meredith Allard

Her Loving Husband's Curse is the second installment in Allard's Loving Husband series, and is just as much of a hit as the first. Written so eloquently, the reader cannot help but be pulled into the story and feel every emotion of the wonderful characters.

James and Sarah Wentworth are finally putting their lives back together after averting the discovery that James is a Vampire. But just because James' name was removed from Hempel's list didn't mean that Hempel was giving up. In fact, Hempel is back in book two with "evidence" that Vampires do in fact live among us, and he is ready to name names bringing fear back into their lives.

There is some happiness however during this trying time. After struggling with the decision whether or not to start a family, James and Sarah decide to adopt a child. But their joy in their new family is short lived.

When the Vampires come "out of the coffin", not everyone is pleased, and the fears and prejudices of anything different begin to resurface. No one seems to know what to do with the Vampires leaving James and Sarah to make difficult decisions that will affect their whole family.

Allard's use of historical events such as the Salem Witch Trials themselves, the Trail of Tears, the mention of the Japanese Internment Camps, along with mention of the Nazi Death Camps is a poignant reminder of how man has treated his fellow man through the ages because they were different. It also; at least in my case, leaves the reader questioning if we have in fact come very far in this respect at all, and I love Allard for using this book and this series to bring that into the forefront. We all need a reminder of where we've been in order to not let the atrocities of the past repeat themselves.

Her Loving Husband's Curse brought questions to my mind, love into my heart, and tears to my eyes. An exceptional read that will leave you begging for more.

I really enjoyed the first book in this trilogy and have been looking forward to reading the second. I really didn't want the first one to end.

Once again we get more mystery, more nightmares and more chaos, only this time a huge part of it centers around James instead of Sarah.

We get more of James' haunting past while he was searching for Sarah and waiting for her to come back to him. Of the things, places and people that he experienced and got to know along the way.

We also get more of Hempel. Yes Hempel is back and determined more than ever to prove that vampires exist and to let the world know. And oh goodness does he unleash a lot of evil along the way.

We also get a little surprise in the form of a new character, that I won't say anything about because I don't want to give anything away, but I will say this. The scene..it melted my heart and made me all teary eyed.

I couldn't of asked for a sweeter moment for James and Sarah and all that they have been through.

And boy did they need those sweet moments because what the rest of the story had in store for them was...well it was heartbreaking.

So much happened in this story I was completely wrapped up in it. I found myself getting teary eyed more than once and this time not because I was happy like before but because what was happening to James and Sarah was pretty devastating.

Needless to say, I don't want to give any more away but I will say this, I am anxiously awaiting the last book in the trilogy. I feel like I have become invested in James, Sarah, Jennifer, Olivia and the whole groups lives. I want to know what happens next and I want my happily ever after darn it!

I want to know how the author will pull it all together in the end. Oh I can't wait to read what happens next!

I give this one very 5 very well deserved Stars!!

Having read Her Dear and Loving Husband, book 1 in this series, I was looking forward to continuing on with the story of James and Sarah. Would the efforts of investigative report Kenneth Hempel have any affects on their lives after they managed to hide the fact that James was a vampire was from him.

James and Sarah's story is heartbreaking. Here is a couple who, against all odds, managed to find each other and build the life they should have had before it was interrupted by the Salem Witch Trials. For James and Sarah, the past has a ugly way of repeating itself, except this time it's James who falls under the scrutiny of hate and fear.

Poor James is a man who knows exactly what he lost and what his life was like before he found Sarah. When everything he loves is threatened, he tends to hang on extremely tightly. Who can blame him? The man lost everything and then somehow managed to find his meaning for living again. So when all of that is threatened, James panics, hides things from Sarah and contemplates what his next steps should be.

While Sarah may not have spent hundreds of years living without her soul mate, she has the same fears as James when vampires are threatened. She may not have lived it personally, but she does have the memories of her previous life as Elizabeth, James' first wife, and worries that what happened to her will now happened to James.

Meredith Allard does a wonderful job of creating two characters that can break your heart but also have you cheering for them to finally get their happily ever after. While this middle book in the series doesn't leave us with that HEA for our couple, it left me eagerly awaiting the final installment with James and Sarah's continued journey.

The crap really hits the fan in HER LOVING HUSBAND'S CURSE as Kenneth Hempell's wish comes to pass. Meredith did a great job of bringing the past into the present with her researched history, retelling of past events and the addition of prejudiced/bigoted beliefs that fill the world not only now but back then.

I really enjoyed HER DEAR AND LOVING HUSBAND and was really excited to have the chance to read book 2. Although I didn't feel book 2 was as good I still enjoyed the continuation of Sarah and James' journey together. I really enjoy the love that they show each other and all the friends that help them along the way. Although Sarah and James are very much in love and growing stronger as a couple I wish it wasn't so odd that James was holding back his experience on the Trail of Tears. After everything they have been through it seemed like a small thing for him to keep from her or be scared to share with her. I loved the addition of Grace but it was a bit weird how it happened, its just not that easy in the real world. There were quite a bit of instances where I felt the story was really slow or I had to push myself to keep reading certain passages about the Trail of Tears. Another odd moment was when Sarah's ex-husband stopped in for a visit, it didn't bring anything to the story for me.

The ending was extremely rough and I was absolutely heartbroken to have to see that happen. I am dying to know what will happen in book 3 and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will be good news by the end.

"...we bid farewell to it and all we hold dear." - Charles Hicks, Tsalagi (Cherokee) Vice Chief speaking of the Trail of Tears, November 4, 1838, Legends of America

after all they had been through, James and Sarah Wentworth are finally getting settled as husband and wife. the past, however, just would not let go easily. Sarah is having dreams about the baby she lost hundreds of years ago while James is reliving the pain and horror he witnessed on the Trail of Tears in 1831. the truth about the existence of vampires and other supernatural creatures also face the threat of exposure.
author Meredith Allard's sequel to Her Dear & Loving Husband is a triumphant follow-up! it is more emotional, more intense, more dramatic, more exciting and of course, more romantic.
old characters make their appearance and new ones are introduced. this time, the events not only take place in Salem but also in a secluded location in Maine. moreover, twists and surprises heighten the thrill of enjoying this fast-paced book.
initially, i was inclined to believe that Her Dear & Loving Husband could stand on its own even if it was part of a trilogy. apparently not. after reading this second book, i changed my mind and readers will definitely miss out a lot if they fail to read it as well.
the only way to solve this dilemma is simple enough - grab copies of the first and second books, read one after the other and like me, wait with much anticipation for the third and final one to come out.

First off, let me say that this book was phenomenal. It incorporates some of my favorite things: vampires, witches, and love.

The story centers around a modern day couple facing a big problem. He's a vampire. Throughout the book, you learn their history (and it's a long one) and finding each other again. You learn about events in James' (the vampire and hero) life over the last 340 years.

Throughout the novel, there are snippets from letters James had written to his deceased wife, and mostly centered around the US government's rounding up of Indians to be put on reservations and the "Trail of Tears." I particularly loved this part, because it incorporated real, historical fact into this novel. Fact that sets up the remainder of the book, and facts that we were never taught in school.

The book moves pretty fast, and I couldn't put it down. It was a testament to true love, and that love will find you wherever you are.

The only down-side to the book is the ending. After becoming to emotionally involved in this couple, I thought the ending wasn't very fair. Even on the last page, I kept waiting for the happy ending.

But a very enjoyable book that everyone should read!

I absolutely loved Book 1 of this trilogy and Book 2 did not disappoint. I eagerly await the final book. I was so excited to read this book, I could not wait to see what happens next with Sarah and James. Would the reporter keep hounding them to try and divulge Jame's secret? Would Sarah and James finally find some peace and happiness with each other? What would come next for them. Every page kept me riveted.

In this second book, Sarah starts to have visions of the child that she carried over 300 years ago and James starts to have painful memories of his time on the Trail of Tears with the Cherokee. I love how the author delves so deeply into the past with very interesting subplots of things like the Salem Witch Trials and Native Americans. I was interested throughout the whole book and hated to put it down.

I am so excited for the next and last book to see where this trilogy leads and to see how it ends. I urge you to check out Book 1 & 2 and prepare yourselves for the last book. You will not be disappointed.

You can find the original review on Genuine Jenn I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

If you love vampires, ghosts, witches and a great love story you need to read this series. It just gets better and better. I was really moved by book #2 in this series and love how the author develops the relationship between James and Sarah, such a sweet loving romance. The author does an excellent job of mixing history with fiction, defiantly a well researched book. This isn't your typical vampire book, James isn't your typical vampire. He has such a sweet loving soul, it hurts when you read all the things he has been through over the 300+ years he was a vampire. My heart arched, I laughed and I was totally drawn into this book. Now to wait until the next book.

I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars! A must read!

Again for those that enjoy History and Romance with Paranormal aspects, then you will love this trilogy!! The second book did not disappoint. I was very happy to re-enter the lives of James and Sarah newly married. The couple was building the life that had been denied to them previously, but regrettable their new found happiness is dampened as James begins having memories of his time on the Trail Of Tears and Sarah dreams of the child she carried over 300 years previously as well.

I was completely enthralled by this book and the author did a magnificent job of once again mixing the historical facts into the telling!!:O) The story is well written and I am mesmerized by the love between the two main characters…and simply wish that they would be left alone and allowed their happiness. ,lol

I really like Jennifer and Olivia and the new secondary characters introduced…the plot is intriguing, it flows well and now I am looking forward to the last book:)

What happens when you mix historical fiction, romance, and the supernatural? In this case, a book I kept finding an excuse not to keep reading. It has a lot going for it but I couldn't connect to the characters.

Allard picks a historical event (The Trail of Tears) to parallel the storyline in which James is forced to leave his home and family behind. It's a famous event but I can't recall off the top of my head any fiction that uses it as a backdrop. This was smart as the reader wouldn't be tied to points of historical accuracy and gave Allard room to fictionalize events along the march.

The vampires aren't exactly stereotypical - sure, they have strong bodies without a pulse but they also shed bloody tears. And they aren't superhuman. The reader won't find any vampires carrying humans long distances in hopes of keeping the human from harm's way.

This is book two in the Loving Husband trilogy. I enjoyed this installment, it is full of history and references to American events and hardships. The continuation of Sara/Elizabeth & James' story is unique and very well written. The new characters and obstacles add to the story making this a great read. Allard leaves you wanting more and I am really looking forward to the third and final installment of the Loving Husband Trilogy. I definitely recommend this series to others who love paranormal romance.

Disclosure: I received a copy of the book for review purposes only through Bewitching Book Tours. I was not compensated to write a positive or favorable review. This is Keeping Up With The Rheinlander's personal opinion.

3.75 I liked the first one a lot better. The first half was just too sappy for me. The word loving is waaaay over used! The second half is very emotional and is the reason for my rating it higher. In this one Sarah and James are settling down into married life with a new baby. Vampires are introduced to the world and all hell breaks loose. It's quite similar to the way the japanese people were handled during world war 2. I'm curious to see where the final one ends all of the turmoil and if they will really get their HEA.
