It’s been months since Ava fooled the British vampires and dealt with Becca for good, but although life has been easier, it’s not without its problems. Her deal with the twins is physically harming her, Peter’s grasp on his sanity is tentative to say the least, Carl is struggling, and Esther is losing her edge.
Ava’s been asking too many questions in an attempt to fulfil her various deals, but her persistence turns out to be the biggest problem. She’s not the only one asking questions, but somebody wants her to stop, and finding out who’s in charge is a lot harder than taking care of her new houseguest.
To survive, on her own terms, Ava must take control of her own destiny for a change. That might involve swallowing her pride and accepting help from those she doesn’t trust because there are new foes on the horizon, and the number of people needing her protection keeps on increasing.
Just finished this and what can I say except excellent! Ava and Peter's relationship is improving and has a potential to grow. She is much more comfortable in her abilities and has learned a lot about who she can trust. Gabe has left me wondering and I am appalled at Aiden and his cold behavior. Wondering who is really pulling the strings on the council now...looking forward to the next installment and the war that is inevitably going to happen... Great read!
I really am liking where this story is going and what is happening to the characters, but the swearing has escalated, especially the F word and so I'm not feeling as comfortable with the reading. I wish authors would find other words to convey what the characters are feeling without having to use profanity. I know it can be done.
I'm so in love with this series but I feel like this book had a very slow beginning. It started to get better and develop faster half way through.
I really like how things are developing. The end of this book has me jittery and on end. I just need to know what happens next!
I'm loving how badass Ava is becoming. She's gained so much more confidence and learnt so much about herself and her world.
I would have loved for Peter to have a more defined role this time around. I loved them working together, side by side, but I'm so excited to learn more about the new characters.
I gave this book a rating of 5 because I loved it. I loved how Ava will do anything to keep promises and protect the ones she loves and cares about no matter the cost. She grower more powerful and smarter than what anyone truly realizes. I recommend this book to anyone that loves anything dealing with the paranormal.
This series grow on you, this seriously twisted battle where friend turns enemy and nothing is what it seems, what will you do?? The plots are great and follow up and continued on what happened in the previous one. And it ends perfectly, no major cliffhanger. Just enough for you to want the next book I'mmediately... Read it!!!
Wow this series just gets better and better. Java certainly comes into her own in this book trying to do good whilst always been tripped up by treachery. Well it seems no more! She has a plan and I've a feeling she's determined to see it through. I have loved this series and thoroughly recommend it.
I’m a fan of this author. She’s very creative and keeps her books pretty clean. I gave this 4 stars because I’m not a fan of hell. I just didn’t enjoy this story as much as her others. The epilogue almost turned it around for me, but the book had to be endured too much for me. I like the series too much to write reading it though.
Ava's really coming into her own huh? I love that even though she's from both the light and dark she always tries to do the right thing, help the right people. Some of her decisions may blow up in her face but she isn't a malicious person.
Ava is finally finding her footing. Although, she is still surrounded by lying backstabbers, she is able to figure out a way to own her power. From rescues to betrayals, the outcome changes everything.
I enjoyed this story. Happy to have some closure to mysteries. Looking forward to more. But character suddenly dropped some issues without explanation which is a little disconcerting
Couldn't stop reading! The story keeps moving while surprising you and building up to a revelation that you feel but can't quite grasp. Ava is coming into her own and learning more about herself. She can play their game and she intends to win.
Ava gets a few more pieces of the puzzle including a missing child is returned. Not just any missing child, but Peter's missing ,presumed dead, son. Wow!
This book is right up my street with the storyline and characters. I've been drawn right into the book its a good read. I can't wait to get started on the next one.
This is one of those, "take it for what it is" type of books. It's a young adult paranormal mystery (with a hint of romance) that you can buy for $3 on Kindle. It's meant to be fast and fun, and it is.
Since I read the rest of the series over six months ago, I had a hard time remembering all the little complex side-plots, but Claire Farrell did a good job weaving it all in. This is not a seris you can skip books in, though. The cast of characters and intrigues is quite complicated (but in a good way).
Ava is up to her ears owing people debts and physical signs are starting to show - good reason to never make deals with the fey. Peter is starting to lose it a little more, lost in his grief over the kidnapping of his son. Ava knows that being with him could end up hurting her, but she can't seem to let him go. Carl is still recovering and working for Eddie in the bookshop. Esther has become an even better friend and is helpint Ava with all her projects. Ava needs to free the twins, find the slave market, and help Peter find what happened to his son. As she finds more clues, it seems more and more that they are all related.
Sometimes the characters seem like they have personality disorders. I liked Ava in the first books better - she seems a little out of control in this one. Peter is a timebomb and I don't really like him. Honestly, I don't really love any of the characters that much. Esther is probably my favorite. I wouldn't mind seeing a spin-off series about her. One that took her away from all the other characters.
There are quite a few things I really like about this series. It's fast paced UF that's anchored on the darkside. I love the cast of characters especially their range of personalities and the way they stand beside Ava. I am not crazy about Ava but she grows on me more with each book. The story is told in first person so the reader is ever aware of Ava's frustration and OCD which manifest as counting.
I took off a star because after 4 books, Ava still doesn't know enough about what she is and what she is capable of. Every character that knows doesn't tell her but instead they drop these crypic hints. It's gotten old. There are so many incomplete scenes that I have lost track of what I don't know. It's so cryptic that I am not sure if Ava and Peter are sleeping together. I think so but it's not really clear. You can't get worst than that. I am serious. These scenes are all over the place and I am not sure the author knows she is even doing it. It's like Ms. Farrell might be a little ADD or something. I won't lie, it's good stuff but I am concerned that I am never going to get answers because I might be the only one that knows the questions exist.
So am I in or out? I will continue to read the series when the next one comes out. It does have an addictive quality that fits with love of a gritty-hard hitting--compact read.
It was a slow read for me also...took me 2 weeks to even plough through the first couple chapters! Thank goodness I read the other reviews & tried to keep on reading since many of the readers guaranteed light at the end of a very boring tunnel lol! It all turned around for me when Emmett was introduced in the book. I could not put it down!
The first three books of this series had me worried for Ava that she would keep fumbling in the dark & never being able to catch up with all the scheming. Well the ending of this book was very satisfying! She sounds as though she has wizened up with a great many supporters & will (fingers crossed) be leading the scheming in the next book. I still have my reservations about Peter though...
First time I read this book I think I only made it half way though before life called me away. Now that I have finished it I could kick myself for not finishing it the first time around.
Loved. It.
Things are definitely getting interesting for Ava. Just when I think I know where this story is going BOOM! it changes direction. So much excitement is going on. Action packed and full of intrigue. All those secrets everyone is keeping. I have the next book in hand and can't wait to see what happens next!
This is where I think the series starts getting good. The characters are pretty well developed, they have there place and are feeling familiar, and we start to understand and really like them. The relationships are so important for me in a book. I should also mention that these books have a LOT more swearing and sex scenes than I usually like, but for whatever reason I kept reading this time. It didn't feel sick and twisted to me, just fowl mouthed. Peter's bloodlust is a bit disconcerting, but again it fits his character so I could handle it.
