A collection of letters written by people who have made panels for the Quilt--a loving memorial to those who died of AIDS--reveals a variety of individuals whose words are funny, heartwarming, tender, and moving
This book is subtitled 'the Names Project Book of Letters' and that is just what it is, comprised of letters by the people who made panels for those they love and remember. I did the same with the panel Bill and I made for David. These letters are heart rending messages of love and pain. They are from lovers and mothers and sibs and caregivers and children. Some are written to the people who may one day see the panel they have made ad tell of the life of the person they love. Others are (these are the most touching) written directly to the one they lost. And there are messages from the signature squares which are new with each display such as – “I know that wherever the Quilt is displayed, all the beautiful souls represented on the Quilt are looking down from Heaven and smiling and comforting those of us left behind.” And the words of this book give them a voice.
