Single Minded

Rate this book
Hal Symonds is young and successful. He’s at the top of his game and in control of everything, including his career and his new relationship with Caro Hart. But Hal has a secret. At night, his dreams are punctuated by scenes of fire and death, and the decay of a doomed marriage, all viewed from the perspective of a controlling, jealous husband who believes himself wronged. Hal tries to push these malign thoughts to the back of his mind. But the reappearance of Erica, Hal's jealous ex-girlfriend, threatens to destroy his carefully constructed reputation and disturbs him to the point that the other spirit is finally able to break free. As Hal’s spirit weakens under the influence of the other, his erratic behaviour threatens to destroy his life, his relationships and his career more effectively than Erica’s mind games ever could. Can Hal fight the single-minded will within, saving himself and those he loves, before he loses everything that he holds most dear?

Mark Jones was born in Cornwall, UK, in 1977 and has been writing fiction since his teenage years.

So much for the bald facts. I've always loved writing, from the short, melancholy tales and "epic" poems of my youth to the full-length novels I'm working on now. Either way, there's something wonderful about setting characters along a path and waiting for the point when they become so real that they actually tell the story all by themselves. That was definitely the case with my first novel, "Single Minded", and will, I'm sure, happen as I progress with my next work of fiction, which has the working title, "The Beating of Tiny Wings".

I'm fascinated by families and family history - and the secrets that all families hide. These lie at the heart of my work and I hope my traditional fireside tales occupy you for many contented hours.

weird story but well written

The unfolding of the story was done well. The supernatural bit was hard to wrap my mind around but it brought all the pieces together.
