‘ If Guy finds out … he’ll do his very best to kill him and, in the process, Guy might get badly hurt, or worse. And then he will go to prison. Or hospital. Or to a cemetery. And I’d rather there wasn’t a risk of that happening.’
The Louboutins are quivering. They are terrified. Their nemesis – mud – is everywhere.
Ever since D’Artagnan spirited Nicole away from London to become mistress of the Duchess, his seventeenth-century château in rural France, they’ve refused to come out of hiding.
Mud, manure and the Duchess’s capricious behaviour aside, Nicole has a lot on her mind, most of which she’s can’t share with her imperious, irritating but compellingly seductive French husband. An horrific experience from her past has caught up with her and, while she's determined to get justice, it must be without D'Artagnan's knowledge…
Meanwhile, there's a wedding to plan, a wedding planner from hell to keep in check, a temperamental castle to placate – and a couple of spirited horses who have taken up residence. And then there is Nina, the foster daughter of neighbours, who stirs up feelings that Nicole cannot ignore...
You are guaranteed lots of laughs (always with kindness at French manners and habits). I’m also sure there will be tears - but mostly sad happy tears. And it is enormously satisfying to watch Nicole go from fearful and emotionally isolated to kick-ass women taking control of her life. Life affirming stuff - probably with loud music and dancing. I am really looking forward to the next book!
If you’ve read Taming D’Artagnan, you’ll already know what a strong and endearing character Nicole is. Now she’s back - and her life is complicated by echoes from the past. Second novels are notoriously hard for authors but Fi Whyms has maintained the fabulous voice and story that she started in her first book. Glorious Guy continues to combine great charm and annoying arrogance. The Duchess is up to her tricks and determined to destroy domestic bliss. But there are shadows gathering in the corners. Can Nicole defeat a man who almost ruined her life - or will her actions break her marriage?
Can’t speak highly enough of this series- don’t miss it.
The second book in Fi Whyms’ trilogy is brilliant! The main character Nicole is a delight, smart, warm hearted and funny, and also filled with (justified) rage. I can’t wait to continue with book 3 - I just know she’s going to win her battle. The minor characters are much more flesh-and-blood, and my personal favourite - the Duchess - has really blossomed.
