I really didn't know what to expect when I began reading this book. Yes, I read the synopsis and I was eagerly awaiting it's release, so as soon as the wonderful KaSonndra Leigh offered an ARC copy for me to read, I was blown away, yet again, by her amazing generosity. I want to take the time out now to thank KaSonndra for giving me the opportunity to read and review it, and let me just say that she surpasses my expectations every time. I love everything that KaSonndra writes and this book just joined the list. I mean, just when I think I know which way the story or writing is going...BAM! Ms Leigh really knows how to surprise you and keep a reader captivated that's for sure.

Dark Seraphine is a book shrouded in mystery and secrets. It's about a young man named Caleb Wood who always knew he was a little different. He could hear, see and speak to beings that nobody else could see. He names them "walkers" and they just pop up all over the place. He really never thought anything of them and they never tried anything with him either. Until one of them started conversing with him and his life would never be the same again. For some reason, he felt a deep connection with this "walker" who is called Gia. She is not only beautiful and sexy but she is a total bad ass who saves Caleb plenty of times. It was funny to hear him constantly go on about how he should be saving, not being saved. It's very refreshing to see the roles reversed, having the "girl" save the "boy". But, once Gia comes into his life, so do a few other creepy things. Like men dressed in black; crazy ass gals who want to kill him, and Caleb starting to gain more strength then he already had. Yep, along with Gia, Caleb finds himself being thrown in the middle of an ancient feud.

I love reading books in a guys POV so when I started this, I was so excited to read Caleb's story and hear what he had to say. And let me tell you that being in a teenagers mind is one scary place for a middle aged woman like myself. Whoa! I was laughing-out-loud, loved getting his thoughts and perspective, though at times I wanted to pound his head in for not pushing hard enough or telling one certain girl, Erica, to back the hell off. She was annoying the hell out of me and I was like "seriously girl, you better stop throwing yourself at him knowing that he was in love with someone else." and then I thought, "Hang on, why is Caleb not telling her to piss off." LOL! But, then I started to really feel for him and understood him. Yes, I understood a male teenager. Underneath his coolness and attitude, was a guy who was really hurting and being kept in the dark on a lot of matters. He had a mother who adored him, but a father who wanted nothing to do with him. It was so sad at times, not knowing why he's father never wanted to give him the time of day. But, seriously, he's father is a douche bag.

I was so frustrated at times and desperately searching for any clues and answers as to what was happening to Caleb and around him. I had to know and could not put the book down till all was revealed. And, so did Caleb. He was feeling all kinds of frustration too and I was sighing half the time and then everything finally unravelled itself, shedding light on so many "aha" moments for both Caleb and me. I finally knew why and just when you think you know it all, BOOM, another spanner is thrown in, just to keep you on your toes. Thank God there is another book to follow this because I need to know more, I have to know more. I want more KaSonndra Leigh.
I could tell that Ms Leigh really enjoyed writing this book, getting deep in a guys mind and I really enjoyed reading it. KaSonndra Leigh, you did not disappoint. Can't wait for the next book.

After reading Hacienda Moon and When Copper Suns Fall, I became a huge fan of KaSonndra Leigh's work. When I found out she was writing a new series from the hero's POV, I was really excited to see what she'd create, and I was thrilled to accept an ebook copy for review! A very grateful thank you to KaSonndra for the privilege to read this suspense-filled story; it kept me on the edge of my seat up to the very end, only to throw one more surprise my way before it all came to a close!

Caleb is your typical 17-year old boy, other than the fact that he sees beings he calls "walkers"; they don't bug him, they don't interact, and he just deals with their existence...until one of them turns around and talks to him. The mysterious beauty won't tell Caleb her name, but he finds himself drawn to her for some reason. He tries to go about his life with her popping up whenever she sees fit, but her warnings about danger coming has him on edge. His friends don't know why he's acting strangely, the girl who likes him doesn't know why he's pushing her away, and his parents are just clueless to it all. But when the gorgeous walker he's falling for shows up at school as a new student named Gia, Caleb's world is thrown into a tailspin. Jealousy, danger, mistrust, and secrets make up his world ever since she came into his life, and Caleb struggles to deal with it all while maintaining his own sanity. When enemies start closing in, it may just be Caleb's unknown connection to the mysterious girl that means the difference between life and death.

I loved that this was written in Caleb's POV, it's always refreshing to get the guy's perspective instead of always seeing it from the heroine's eyes. He's goofy, immature, and "thinks of only one thing", just like you'd expect a high school senior to act! I loved how he was trying to interpret what the girls were thinking and feeling, it made me think of every guy I'd ever dated as a teen! But Caleb had so much to struggle with other than the ordinary teen problems, and he dealt with it as best he could. He was so frustrated with Gia for giving him half-answers and refusing to tell him why his world was changing around him. I wanted to strangle Gia for keeping it from him, but in the end it's all clear why she couldn't tell him. She's bound by a witch because of a choice she made years ago, and is paying the price for it. Talk about heartbreaking!!

As Caleb dealt with the crushing blows to his heart every time Gia pushed him away or disappeared from his life for some unknown reason, he was more and more torn about who he was meant to be with. His heart told him it was Gia, but his mind grappled with her hot-and-cold behavior. I felt terrible for him as he ached to be with her, and it killed me when she was distancing herself so much. It was clear that she loved him, but without knowing what she was or why she was acting the way she was, it just made it so sad for Caleb.

You really have to hold onto your seat for the last 10% of this story, because it's a whirlwind of revelations, twists, danger, and romance!! KaSonndra took me by surprise when everything comes to light; I was so happy to finally know what was behind all of the mystery, and I was grateful that Caleb could finally stop wondering. This first book of the trilogy wraps up nicely and leads into what should be a very exciting sequel, and it was a thrilling start to the series!!

First off, I’d like to thank Ms. KaSonndra Leigh for the copy of this book in return for an honest review (which is what I am going to do)

REACTION AFTER READING THE BOOK:

I got that crazy smile on my face when I finished reading this book.
Why the crazy smile?
But this book drove me nuts! (in a good way)

THE GIST

Dark Seraphine follows the Point-of-View of Caleb Wood. Ever since he was a kid, he knew he was different. He could see people appearing out of thin air. He could talk to them, hear them. He calls them “Walkers”.

One day, one of the Walkers started talking and stalking him. Her name was Gia. Caleb finds himself attracted to Gia and he feels that she was feeling the same towards him but she was starting to avoid him. A bunch of other weird things also started happening and Caleb has this thought that it might be related to Gia. But what he didn’t know was that it wasn’t just about Gia but something even bigger than he could have imagined.

FIRST IMPRESSION

If I could sum it up to one word, it would be EXCITED. I honestly didn’t expect Ms. Leigh to request me to read this book but I am glad she did. When I read her email this was how I would have looked like:

(if I was a sparkly multicolored pony but you get my point right? The excited look in the pony’s eyes? Yeah that’s what I was referring to. Hehehe.)

They synopsis on GR is actually very appealing to me. It’s something I would definitely be reading whether Ms. Leigh gave me the copy or not I would have still read it. (But I am thankful she gave me the chance to read it for free. I am eternally grateful!)

CHARACTERS

CALEB

I have to start with Caleb. I like his POV. He was definitely just like a typical high school guy. He was a little immature (but who wasn’t in high school right?) and cocky. I liked how sometimes he could be really goofy one minute and then becomes really serious the next. It only means that he isn’t all fun and games. The good thing with Caleb was he wasn’t like all other guys in YA books, he wasn’t all perfect and hot and all, he was what real guys at high school should be. He makes mistakes and make up for them.

GIA

I had a hard time liking her to tell you honestly. She was too mysterious for my liking but after awhile I realized why she had to be that way. At first I didn’t like her because she stalks Caleb and when Caleb developed feelings for her, she pushed him away. I was really irritated but then as the story goes you get to know why she acted the way she did. Also, I like her being this punk girl. She wasn’t the typical “hot-girly-type” of girl. She was kickass in a way. Totally cool!

CALEB + GIA = PUSH AND PULL RELATIONSHIP

From the very beginning I knew it was going to be CALEB and GIA and not ERICA. There was chemistry no doubt but there had been a time that I was a little irritated that GIA had to push CALEB away. I was ready to smack her in the head and tell her to cut her crap and just tell CALEB why she can’t so the poor guy would understand what was happening. But all in all, I liked it. Not loved it entirely though.

HIGHLIGHTS

> I liked the POV of Caleb. It was honest and real. I found it very authentic even though we all know Ms. Leigh is a girl.

> The suspense was really nerve-wrecking! Ms. Leigh really knows how to put her readers on the edge.

> The concept was new. I seriously didn’t think that Gia and her people would be what they were. I wouldn’t have ever imagined it. Very creative.

> The characters were very genuine especially Caleb. Gia? Not really a big fan of her. I liked Erica (the love struck girl).

QUOTABLE QUOTES:

“I’ve waited my entire life for this moment. Ever since I was a little girl, I understood that I was meant for something more. Something rare. I also knew that if I found it, then my old life would never be the same again. There are two parts to a person’s soul; the light and the dark. Without one the other can’t exist.”

FINAL WORDS:

Again, I am eternally grateful for the opportunity that I had reading this book. It was just great! I enjoyed every minute of it. There were times that it was too slow for me but as you read it more, it gradually increases its pace. I don’t know why but I felt there were some things that should have not been included anymore but then again maybe it would feel incomplete if those scenes were going to be removed.

Anyhow, this book was just awesome. I would recommend it for fans of the YA-paranormal genre. It has humor, suspense, romance and mystery. It will keep you reading until the very last page. The ending was totally unexpected. I never would have guessed that it was that person who was the Dark Seraphine.

This is my first KaSonndra Leigh book and would definitely not be the last.
Great read!

4 stars!

PRE-REVIEW:

Okay so I had mixed thoughts about this one.
I liked the whole concept but for those who have been reading my reviews I always emphasize that I mostly like books that have a fast pace.
This book was not one of them but hell I enjoyed it.

As I read the last word and closed this book, I felt a satisfied rush come over me. Once again, author KaSonndra Leigh has created a written masterpiece that sets her bars ahead of her peers. I’ve followed this author from her writing debut The Lost Immortals: When Copper Suns Fall to her next endeavor Hacienda Moon to Dark Seraphine and the boundaries most find themselves caged in, she busts right through. Ms. Leigh has the knowledge and intricacies to write in both female and male POV’s and of subjects so opposite of each other, that she does so without a trace of playing it safe and accomplishes such in a flourish that makes ones jaw drop in awe.

In Dark Seraphine, we are introduced to Caleb. Beginning his senior year of high school, he just wants to enjoy his last year and get the heck out of dodge. In the midst of this, his parents throw a monkey wrench in his plans and talk of a big move. To make matters even more stressful to a hormonal teen, the hair flipping, gum snapping, sharp witted cheerleader of all our nightmares seems to have put her sights on him. Oh, and don’t forget about the spirits he sees but nobody else does that normally just roam but suddenly have taken a fancy to him, and let him know, verbally and by touch. How much more can a boy take? The answer…much more. Suddenly there are dark creatures invading his life, an angelic “spirit” who doesn’t have a true definition of what she is until further on, and a story that takes off like a rocket leaving all other stories in its path. Love, mystery, death, light, dark, the grey in-between, past, future, all wrapped into the first of a trilogy of The Seraphine.

As one who isn’t a big fan of the male POV, I found this book entertaining. When I wasn’t reading it, I was wondering where the story was going to take me. I found myself hurrying to see what was going to happen next, stopping to laugh out loud at the clumsiness I remember of high school boys, and thinking to myself, KaSonndra has this boy spot on. I’ve read male POV’s that have seemed forced, or lacking, which in turn makes for a hard read. I didn’t have any problem with this and the story flowed a perfect melody of teen angst mixed with explosions of the unknown.

I look forward to reading the next in the trilogy, along with all the future writing of the author. Plus I can't wait to see her next covers and book trailers. She has blessed us with amazing graphics on both accounts. This is an author to watch, she will be busting through the listings before you know it. Oh, KaSonndra, hurry with your next book, I need another on of your adventures to escape into!

I want to thank the author, KaSondra Leigh, for providing me with an eARC of this book to read and give an honest review. Getting this book for free in no way influenced my review.

Blurb from Goodreads:
"Mom always says the angels walk among us. She forgot to tell me that sometimes they're not all fluffy and nice."
Seventeen-year-old Caleb Wood has seen people he calls the walkers since he was a baby. It didn't take long for him to realize something…no one can see these strangers but him. They never stuck around or tried to touch him. And they never said a word. That was until one day on the first day of class in his senior year when an incredibly gorgeous girl strolls into his life…and things are never the same again.

And his ability to see the invisible ones, the half-breeds that want to modify the human race, just might be the only hope both he and the mysterious, but infuriating, Gia, have of making it out alive

First I must let you all know that I am a huge fan of KaSondra Leigh's writing. She just has that "it" thing going on. She creates characters that you grow attached to. She creates scenarios that you can jump right into. So when given the opportunity to read this book, I jumped at the chance. Because I knew for sure that I would absolutely love it!

The first thing I have to say about this book is that I love the cover. It is dark and mysterious. The cover model is very handsome and has these eyes that just pull you right in, making you want to open the book and read it! And I love the girl in the background, how she's shaded from our view, hiding behind him, and enigma to us all (including the cover model). It's a perfect set up for this book!

The characters are really awesome. They are so typical high-school, teenage kids! They are easily relatable and believable. And Leigh writes the characters so well you feel their emotions as if they are your own. You felt their frustrations, their sorrows, their fears. Amazing.
Caleb is awesome. He's kind of this cocky guy who also strikes me as a sort of dork. He's into sports, and martial arts, but he doesn't seem to think he's worthy of the attention he gets from others. He's sweet and caring. And good looking, well, yeah, that's an understatement. I love that the book is written from his POV. I haven't read many books written from the male POV, and it's nice to see it from Leigh. He does have a tendency to say things how they are, which can hurt people at times. But I liked his ability to be so forthcoming.
Gia is completely mysterious. I could not figure her out at all. I had no idea what she was and was surprised when it was revealed, that's for sure. She frustrated me a bit with her advancing and pulling away from Caleb. I understood in the end why she did these things, but I was getting annoyed with her for leading him on. I wanted to give her a little push here and there so she would just make up her mind!
And Caleb's friends are supportive, despite the fact that they might find him strange at times. They are the perfect supporting characters.

The storyline was very different for me. This is the first time I have read a paranormal book of this specific creature. Leigh's writing certainly made me want to keep reading. It was mysterious and pulled me right in. It wasn't slow at all and I found myself wanting to keep turning the page. And the storyline was totally different from anything else I have read, so it helped to keep me wanting more. I certainly did not see where it was going and I loved that!

And Leigh's writing is really quite fabulous. I love how it's so easy to read and flows right through the book (no chinks, no confusion, just a storyline and writing that keeps going).

Again, Leigh's writing is awesome. If you want to read books that are interesting and fun, entertaining and flow well, you want to pick up her stuff!

4 out of 5 stars from me!

Dark Seraphine by KaSonndra Leigh
reviewd by Nanette Bradford
YATR Review Panel

I already loved KaSonndra Leigh's book The Lost Immortals When Copper Suns Fall so of course my expectations were high for the Dark Seraphine.
KaSonndra didn't disappoint me with this book either. It had me so wrapped up trying to find out who or what the mystery girl named Gia was and how she tied into Caleb. Why does she seem so familiar to him? I had So many questions..
I'm really not sure what i love better when i read a book though. Actually knowing what the characters are and everything beforehand or finding out and unraveling it as i read along.
I will tell you this though, I was dying to know who these "men in black" where and why they are always popping up at the worst possible times. Ah!!! Anyway, I'm getting ahead of myself. Let me tell you about the book.

Caleb is your typical high school boy. His family life is ok.. His mom is a yoga instructor and his dad is hardly ever home working on some important engineering job again. His ex-girlfriend chose to leave him behind and move out of town with her dad leaving him with a broken heart. Caleb had his best friend Kyle and Shani to keep him occupied but he just didn't seem himself anymore. Ok, so a boy with a broken heart. Boo hoo right.. oh no. He built up this wall and vowed to never let anyone get that close to him again. He was not going to let any girl own him like that. Silly Boys what do they know. .. :)

Caleb also has this huge secret. All his life he's seen spirits or "Walkers" that no one else could see. They would typically fade in and out like they were never there if he just ignored them but not this time. This walker was different. She was beautiful with her dark hair, black leather jacket and those eyes, he could stare into her eyes forever. Then she spoke to him. Her voice was just as beautiful and sexy as she was, well that’s what Caleb thinks anyways. After that he couldn’t get her out of his head.

All right so down to the "men in black". These black agents would pop up out of no where
and bad things typically followed whenever they did. Caleb got all weirded out whenever they were around., Gia, told him that they were up to something and that he had to be ready for whatever it was. What the heck! Ready for what?

I totally forgot about Erica. She's a cheerleader, loves pink clothes and has this huge thing for Caleb. Caleb likes Erica but he doesn't feel that connection to her like he does when he's around Gia. But then again Gia isn't always around, Erica is and she adores him.

What does he do, who does he choose and what will it cost him? I am so not doing this book any justice. You are just going to have to read it to find out what happens. You will be so glad that you did though. You don’t want to miss Caleb and Gia’s story..

I love KaSonndra Leigh and I will be stalking her until her next book comes out.

Dark Seraphine

It has to be hard to write for a teenage boy. I mean, I have one and I seriously don't understand him. There are things that he does that makes me scream on the inside and shudder on the outside.

But leave it to KaSonndra Leigh to find her inner 'bro'.

Huzzah!!

Caleb Wood is not your average boy. He sees Walkers. Now, at first I was thinking of the "I See Dead People" boy but Walkers are a tad bit different. I guess, I was reminded of the black oil X-files type thingys. Ok, that's not a good example but that's the first thing that popped into my head. X-Files is definitely a 'Walkers' type thing.

Caleb really wants his senior year to go smoothly. He doesn't want to have to pay attention to the Walkers and stuff. I mean, shoot, they haven't talked to him since he was 13. BUt Oh snapples!! One just started talking to him and she's this super duper hot girl that he can't take his eyes off of.

*Aerosmith's "Angel" starts playing in the background.

But, he can't swoon after a Walker. Can he?

Nah, man! That would be unmanly!! HE should swoon after a real girl. Oh snap!! But what happens when he does swoon after a real girl and her ex-boyfriend is as big as Thor and has it out for him.

Well, things can't get any worse for Caleb, can they?

Oh yeah they can!! Not only does he have a bunch of Yoga Ladies squeezing his cheeks, and a family that is wanting to move, he also has to figure out the Dark Seraphine.

What? Who is that?

I can't tell you ;) That would wreck the book... but zomg... Hang on to your hat!!

Assassin's Rose: A Lost Immortal's Novella

If you have been keeping up with KaSonndra Leigh's stories then you know that Dark Seraphine is a pre-quel to When Copper Suns Fall. But what might interest you is the novella Assassin's Rose is a pre-quel companion novel to When Copper Suns Fall that will leave you breathless and begging for more. I just can't believe what I just read! Most awesome!!

A huge thank you to KaSonndra Leigh for offering this book in exchange for an honest review.

Caleb has seen “walkers” since before he can remember. They don't speak to him, so he just deals with them as if he's blind to them like everyone else. That all changes when a beautiful walker starts talking to him. He knows nothing about her except that he's the only one who can see or hear her. But when the gorgeous walker girl shows up at his school, sporting the name Gia and a crew of her own, things start to get weird. These creepy men keep popping up and Caleb starts to get crazy strong. The only thing Caleb knows is that he can't control the draw he feels to Gia, and it might just mean the beginning of the end.

I think maybe my head has been clouded by books that all about love and steamy scenes and not so much about the journey. Dark Seraphine was more about the journey, and I liked that. It was also very refreshing to read a book with a male POV. There was a great flow to the book, but I found a couple parts to be a little lack luster compared to the rest of the book.

Caleb deals with all the regular teenage boy stuff and some serious darkeness. He has to juggle school, girls, and his issues at home. I felt so bad about the way his father neglected him, it was so horrible. I didn't quite fall head over heels for him, but I definitely liked him. He was funny and smart, but there was room for growth.

His friends, Kyle and Shani, kind of annoyed me. I can't really even pinpoint the exact reason for it. Maybe it was because they didn't have much of a presence besides sucking face. And Shani came off as super bitchy. Erica was okay. You definitely feel for her when you find out more of her story, but I still felt a little weary of her.

The ending of this book was crazy. It left me wanting Lost Seraphine, the next in the trilogy, NOW! Overall I really liked this book I can't wait to see what will happen to Caleb next.

Firstly i would like to thank the author and amazing friend KaSonndra for giving me the honour of reading and reviewing your new amazing book once again you have created a must read series.

what can i say about the book created by the beautiful and talented mind of KaSonndra Leigh. This time KaSonndra took us into the mind of a 17 year old boy and there were times that i was laughing out loud.

Caleb is your typical 17 year old boy hormones and all but with a big twist he can see beings that he calls "walkers, he has never interacted with them in any way so when a gorgeous walker who he calls "gia" suddenly starts appearing out of no where and starts talking to him, he is more than a little interested, he feels a unexplained pull to her. But suddenly things start happening that do not normally happen like girls wanting to kill him which i found sort of funny lOL and a few other creepy things.

I loved it that KaSonndra let you feel how frustrated Caleb felt, at times he didnt know what the hell was going on, he felt so frustrated and you feel it right along side with him but it makes you keep on going to find out why this is all happening.

Once again KaSonndra has written another book totally diffrent from all the others she has written and has been sucsessful in creating a must read. She also knows how to make things spooky, and she also knows how a 17 year old boys mind thinks LOL. KaSonndra is a very talented wrtier and i will be reading anything she writes as i know that she can write a book in any genre and still make it a must read.

First I'm going to say thanks to KaSonndra Leigh for the giveaway.

This book was AMAZING. I didn't think it'd be as amazing as it was. I thought it'd be mediocre. Nope. I was wrong.

I liked Caleb. He's not the cocky type. He's not popular, just a typical high school guy with his own friends, not defined by a clique.

Kyle was good, too. He's the guy that chases the snotty cheerleaders even though he knows they'll turn their noses up at him. He doesn't care.

For a cheerleader, I actually liked Erica. I thought she was going to be snobby and annoying. No she was sweet and smart and she went out of her way to get the cheerleaders to cheer at a game of Caleb's. I was kind of rooting for her at the beginning until Gia showed up.

I really liked Gia. She was a puzzle. You never know when she's gonna pop up. She's fun and perky, not overly annoying perky. She just has a really good attitude about everything.

What I really like about this book is that it keeps you guessing. You kind of have an idea about what Gia is but you really don't know for sure and that's what keeps you going. I really couldn't put this book down, it was nearly impossible for me. This is definitely going on my favorites shelf.

This is recommended to everyone. Seriously if you haven't read it you really should. It's a great book and I'm super excited for the next book. Enjoy! :)

First of all, I would like to KaSonndra Leigh for sending me this book in exchange for an honest review, because it was awesome!

The plot was fast and it never had a dull moment. Something crazy was always happening to Caleb, and whoever did it usually popped out of thing air it seemed.

The characters were awesome. Caleb was a great character. He had his flaws and he realized he had his flaws. He was funny and nice but around Gia he was serious. Gia was great too, and she had me guessing until the end what she was. All the side characters were good too, and I liked how all of them had a purpose.

The writing style was terrific. KaSonndra Leigh created great characters and a great plot. The dialoge was realistic too, and I could imagine kids at my school saying it!

All in all, Dark Seraphine is fabulous and you should definitely check it out!

I am very impressed with Kasonndra Leigh’s writing. This book has a terrific plot twist, with very real feeling and lovable characters, and the feeling of needing to know now! This creates a real page turner.

I first fell in love with her writing in her other book; The Lost Immortals: When Copper Suns Fall, and Now this one. Also, there is another book after Dark Seraphine called Lost Seraphine (Seraphine Trilogy #2, due out Feb 14th) I can’t wait for book 2!. If you want to read books that are interesting and fun, entertaining and really flow well, then you will want to pick up her books.
I just went into this book really knowing nothing. I spent about ¾ of the book trying to figure out what Gia was, and the others that Caleb called the Walkers (people only he can see, but not ghosts) It sure was a surprise when I did find out! But I am not telling you!!

I enjoyed this story a lot, about as much as I did Kasonndra’s other book I mentioned. Very different in the paranormal way, than any other books I have read. (and I love Paranormal books, really it’s all I will read)

This is told from a male’s Point of View, Caleb. It took a little time for me to connect with Caleb, guess this is due to he is a 17 year old boy, and boys think a lot different than girls, and are way more immature too, kept me thinking him even younger than he is due to that, just had to adjust in my own mind. I still really liked him, and finally was able to connect. It’s all because of my own thinking, not the authors writing, as that was top notch.

I do not want to say too much about this, as I went into this with no knowledge and it was one of the best parts. The not knowing, the reading faster and faster as I just HAD to know what Gia was, as well as the others. What was happening to Caleb too. I just wanted to know. The suspense was killing me. So I will NOT be telling you what supernatural beings we are dealing with, so to keep the surprise for you as well.

I really loved Gia, she is a great girl, and very mysterious and I really felt for her. I felt of all the girls, I connected with Erica the most. She is more than she seems under her pretty exterior, and I liked that about her.

Kyle, Caleb’s best friend is a typical teenage boy, nothing special there. I also loved that Caleb’s mom was in the story some. I really hate how so many YA pretend the parents just don’t exist, it’s not believable, and this story was in that area.
I loved how Gia was able to just pop in on Caleb at anytime. Here below is a funny part with Caleb and Gia (he didn’t know her name yet here)

I undressed down to my boxers, strutted over to the showers, and reached into the first stall. Turning around, I almost swallowed my tongue.
“Wow, Caleb. I gotta hand it to you. Charm is definitely a strong point for you,” the Walker said to me as I stood there in my underwear. Mortified didn’t come close to how I felt right then. I snatched my towel off the shower bar and wrapped it around my waist.
“You have got to stop doing that,” I blurted.
“Doing what?” she asked innocently.
“Stalking me, and—and showing up like a weirdo ghost,” I said. My whole body blushed. I could feel it just like I felt the heat coming off the water in the shower.
“Guys spy on girls all the time. So are you saying you don’t like it when things are the other way around?”
“Oh yeah? Newsflash time. You’re not a normal girl,” I said in a low voice. I hated admitting it, but she had a point. I wanted to be the one in control. Getting stalked by a female, a gorgeous one let me add, boosted my ego by a ton, and made me feel vulnerable at the same time.

Go check out this book. It’s a great price, and certainly worth reading. Kasonndra is now one of my top 10 favorite authors.

5 out of 5 stars for me.

I was provided this book as a part of a book tour with Reading Addiction Book Tours for my honest review.

Caleb Wood has always been able to see the Walkers. He doesn’t know what they are; he just knows that no one can see them except him. Then one decides to strike up a conversation with him and become corporeal and he can’t help but obsess over her. Then creepier Walkers start turning up and everything gets out of hand.

I feel like I have really missed something in this novel. My sister absolutely adored it and I have read several other reviews of people raving about its awesome-ness, but I just don’t see it. It took me a record amount of time to read this rather small book (almost a month) and the entire time I was forcing myself to go on and truly gearing up to write an overly insulting review and give the book a single star rating. I gave it 2 because right at the end (in the last 30 or so pages) the story truly got interesting. Reading this really made me consider starting a “did not finish” shelf because it was so fucking hard to get through.

The truth? I’m just too tired and frustrated to write a bitchy review. Yes, I want to warn people that this book has major issues and they might be better off staying away, but my usual fire is gone. I think this novel had many problems, the writing, the characters, the stop and go plot, the whole enchilada basically. I start with the characters because that’s what I ‘m best at.

First off, we have our main man, Caleb. The entire novel is told via his perspective and let me tell you that for the first time I would have rather it been in third person. Caleb’s personality fell beyond flat and his voice felt very much like a woman desperately trying to be masculine. This is not just because the lack of swear words or his overly censoring of his naughty thoughts (though it probably contributed just a bit), the way he processed things and the fact that he was always on the brink of tears just felt feminine to me. And seriously dude, learn to say fuck because “oh snap!” just doesn’t cut it. Seriously, those words were on every other goddamn page and it was about as believable as Zoey Redbird saying “bull-poop” all the time.

Then there were the female interests. Yep, I said interests, so love triangle land it is. Gia, the Walker/Angel/Whatever, so is all over the place that you can’t tell what the hell she wants. One minute she is saving Caleb and then next she is avoiding him, telling him that he needs to leave her alone. She makes me wanna sing Katy Perry ::sings:: ‘Cause your hot then your cold, you’re yes then you’re no::stops:: I hate Katy Perry. For being the main love interest, she sure was flaky as hell and I couldn’t bring myself to root for them at all. I honestly wanted Caleb to just forget about her and be happy with Erica, if for no other reason than so I could stop listening to his inner monologue of “why can’t I being with Gia? Why doesn’t Gia love me? Whine whine whine.” As you can guess, Erica is the other love interest. In the beginning, I really thought she was going to be the only one, but damn was I wrong. She’s that popular girl with a sweet side, you know the caring cheerleader. Her character was a bit to clingy, trying to force Caleb to like her when it was clear that he was hung up on someone else. I gotta give her props for being patient, but she would have been better off with someone else.

Almost all the rest of the characters felt one dimensional and didn’t really add much to the story. Caleb’s friends, the other Walkers, the bad guy, all feel very flat to me, so I’m not even going to bother with talking about them. The writing style in this was choppy and the plot was slow. I felt like none of it flowed well. You’ll get 200 pages of Caleb and Gia doing the whole on again off again dance that drove me absolutely bonkers, with Gia not revealing any real information about herself (so really, what is the attraction? Just because she’s hot? Dude, stop being so shallow) and Caleb panting after her, while keeping Erica waiting on the sidelines. Then after that, we get just a little bit of stop and go action and then it ends with your typical cliffhanger.

Okay, so maybe I got a little rantey, but really, it’s what I do. This novel was a big downer for me and I can’t say that I’ll recommend it to anyone. Those out there in interweb land, enter at your own risk. Maybe I missed something, but I really just didn’t enjoy this and I definitely won't be reading the sequel.

The small town of New Bern, North Carolina is the setting for this very entertaining book. The story is written from 17 year old Caleb Woods point of view which I found insightful and sometimes hilarious. As a child Caleb is in a near drowning incident in the ocean near his home. The incomplete memories of how he managed to survive center around the vision of a girl. She still haunts his dreams but the answers to the mystery of what happened to him stay just outside of his grasp when he is awake. But, ever since that event, what he does see when he is awake is Walkers. Ghosts or people or angels that only he sees yet never interacts with.

Now Caleb is 17 and starting his senior year in high school. The first day of school he sees a Walker. Only this girl is gorgeous and has Caleb responding like a normal teenage boy and much to his shock and surprise she speaks to him. She stirs something in him and no matter how much he tries to the contrary he is drawn to her. As Caleb, a self proclaimed ladies man, strives for normality things around him just keep getting stranger and he is becoming more interested in finding out the secrets of this new Walker that goes by the name Gia. How and why is she interacting with everyone at school like a normal student. Why does she play hot and cold with him. And who are the hostile repulsive walkers that seem to get bolder each day. To complicate matters even more, Erica, a gorgeous cheerleader, is also interested in him. Now Erica can grab the attention of any red blooded teenage boy, including his best friend Kyle, who just doesn't get why Caleb is not jumping at the chance to go out with her. But in the real world if a guys not interested in a girl its kinda like cat nip, and Erica has left her ex boyfriend and has her sights set on Caleb.

Caleb also struggles with his relationship with his dad. His father is never around, he is the opposite of supportive and basically acts like he can't be bothered. Caleb just can't understand why his father is a constant no show but figures out that the reason may be connected to a secret that his mother doesn't want him to know about. A second near drowning incident while surfing seems to bring his fathers indifference and his mothers secrets closer to the surface.

As other Walkers and Dark Ones make themselves known to Caleb it becomes clear that he is somehow not only caught in the middle of an epic battle between to good and evil, but may be a key player in the outcome. Now Caleb must try to protect friends and family from harm and save Gia at the same time. As the battle progresses and in part is won, secrets are revealed. The twist of just who is the Dark Seraphine will shock you and have you anxiously awaiting the next book in the series.

I really enjoyed KaSonndra Leigh's ability to come at this story from a teenage boys point of view. I am the mom of four boys and some of Caleb's inner thoughts were hilarious and had me laughing out loud. I also had the thought that it was great insight for a teenage girl to see what goes on in the very uncomplicated boy brain! The pacing of the book worked well for me and the story line was definitely unique. All in all a good, quick read with lots of intrigue and action. Sexuality is referenced but is still young adult friendly. Looking forward to the next book.

I love stories with the male POV so I was ecstatic to see that this one was told through the voice of Caleb, our male protagonist.

I really liked Caleb’s voice. At first I wasn't sure I would because you know, he is pretty realistic. Pretty male and pretty typical, slightly immature, and leaning slightly toward the typical horndog seventeen year old boy. But, he really grew on me and I came to like his inner dialogue. His self deprecation and humor.

It is going to be hard describing this read without giving anything away, but I am going to do my best.

Simply put, this was a fun read very unlike anything out there right now in the world of YA paranormal.
In fact, if you like YA and you like paranormal and are like me and love the male POV, then I would say this needs to be in your must read list for 2012.

We don't get a lot of background about the Walkers (ghost like people (or angles as his mom calls them) that only Caleb seems to be able to see and hear) going into the story and even though that would normally bother me, we do get bits and pieces as the story progresses and that held me over until I knew we would get more. Until everything would really start to unfold and make more sense (not that anything was confusing, because honestly, it wasn't).

Gia is a Walker and the day she comes into Caleb's life is the day it all really starts to change. This time Gia isn’t' someone that no one else can see, she becomes a real living and breathing girl and she starts to follow Caleb around (his stalker Walker as he likes to call her) and oh yeah, she is gorgeous and mysterious and confusing the heck out of Caleb.

I admit, her hot and cold act did get a little frustrating for me as well but only because I wanted all the answers now. I didn't want to have to wait for them all to be revealed.

This book had a lot of twists that I didn't see coming. It kept me on my toes guessing what the Walkers really were, what Gia really was.

I loved this whole story and I can't wait to read the next one. Ms. Leigh has once again written an amazing story that will keep you turning the pages and wondering when you can get your hands on the next book in the series.

Review also appears on my blog
Before I start writing this review let me just says thanks to KaSonndra for giving me the chance to read her book in exchange for an honest review. Also I would like to say thanks to the light people in my town for getting my power back in only a few days after Sandy. I only lost power for a few days compared to people who lost much more than power. Otherwise I would be reading by the candlelight and well not reviewing anything.
Okay so the blurb makes you think this book is going to be about angels and I guessed you could argue that in some messed up way it is about angels since blah blah blah...I'm just going to say this book is not about angles makes it so much easier than trying to clarify the plot and having the risk of spoilers. The plot in this book is very involved so I don't even think I'm going to talk to much about it.
Our hero and notice I say here, it's a guy!!!! I know most books are written from a girls perspective and honestly I have no idea why but reading from a guys perspective was like the greatest thing ever. Well it is for a girl anyway. It's like getting inside information on everything. Okay so onto Caleb himself. He was a pretty funny guy and some of the things going through his head were pretty hilarious. He is a but clueless when it comes to girls but then again let's face it most guys are. I loved the fact that he was honest and totally loyal to his friend. I loved how he was so willing to fight for Gia. Gia kind of annoyed me a bit. She palyed hot and cold a lot. Although I totally get why she did it. What I loved about her was how willing she was to sacrifice herself just so Caleb could live. This book isn't really heavy on the romance side even though the romance was the drive behind some of the events.
The plot. Definitely great part of this novel. Unfortunately, I can't really talk about because it's kind of spoilery. Also it has sort of a cliffhanger. So I'll leave you with this: Who is the Dark Seraphine?

When I first started reading this book I was unsure of how I would like it. The storyline was different. The characters are different. As I continued reading I came to see what a fresh, new and unusual story this is. Kasondra Leigh has really outdone herself with this book. It is one of the best that I have read in a long time in this genre. And look at that cover! Isn't it gorgeous!? I love it!

The story takes place in small town New Bern, North Carolina. A nice and normal coastal setting. Looks can be deceiving! Caleb is our seventeen year old main character with an unusual ability. He can see walkers, at least that is what he calls them. He has had this special ability since he almost drown in the ocean as a small child.

Getting through his senior year in high school and finding the right girlfriend are his only worries. Then he meets the hot new girl, Gia, who is oh, by the way, a walker. Suddenly, Walkers are showing up everywhere and they want something from Caleb. They want him to remember something that he has hidden deep and not thought about in years. Sometimes things are better left in the past.

With help from his mother, friends and Gia, Caleb will have to take a long look at his life and remember the things that are important to him. Sometimes things are not always what they seem and the people that we love most are not always who they say they are.

I would like to thank the author for gifting me a copy of her book for the blog tour. I have so enjoyed reading this and could not put it down. I look forward to the next installment in this saga. I could talk about this book forever but I don't want to give away too many spoilers. You just have to read it for yourself.

This was an enjoyable and entertaining read. Caleb is a young man who has always had the ability to see spirits. Until now, they have been silent, never speaking. Until now, he has successfully managed to pretty much ignore them. Then everything changes.

I love the way in which the author tells the story. I was immediately pulled into Caleb’s world and cared about what would happen to him and his friends. The sentences are beautifully constructed and fluidly flow from thought to thought without any jarring interruptions. Caleb is a strong-minded, likable young man. He thinks about how his actions will affect those close to him. I also liked that he has a good relationship with his mother. Caleb tends not to take himself too seriously and there are several humorous passages where he gives himself pep talks. Most importantly, he has a conscience.

The beginning was strong, as I stated. And the ending was well-executed. The middle needs little tightening as it sagged there a couple of times for me. Nothing major, but the story stalled for a bit before it picked up steam again and got back on track. There is plenty of mystery and innocent romance. The supernatural is skillfully woven throughout the tale in such a way that made it easy to believe the possible dire consequences of the impending battle. Juxtaposed as that was in intriguing ways with everyday, ordinary youthful escapades is what makes this book a delightful read.

This book was given to me by the author in return for an honest review. I have not received any additional compensation.

Review originally posted at Doodle's Book Blog

After reading the summary, I was intrigued. After reading the story, I thought it was unique. It was so different from what I had expected.

Caleb has always been able to see those who aren't really there. He calls these people walkers. However, none of them have ever talked to him. His world is about to change and it's all because of her.

I really liked Caleb. Partially because he was different, and partially because he really didn't have a filter. He tends to speak before thinking and usually around girls. This makes for a number of funnies he never would, or should, have said had his filter been in place.

What did I like? I loved that this is from a guys point of view. Rarely have I read a book written from a guys prospective. I also liked Caleb's internal chats. He gave himself pep talks and made fun of himself. Who hasn't done this to themselves? This helped me connect with him. Finally, I like, and respect, the fact that he has a conscious. With the position he was in, most guys would have taken advantage, but Caleb made it clear what the deal was.

Overall, Dark Seraphine was unique and different from my usual read. It was a refreshing change of pace for me. If you enjoy a good paranormal read with a little bit of romance, you should give this one a shot.

FTC Disclosure: I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. I was not monetarily compensated for my opinion.

Great book!

I really liked it, it was a fast read, the writing style is amazing, so entertaining, fluent and with a splash of humour.

The author mixed the paranormal stuff with everyday teenage problems and that made it great and believable.

I didn't gave it 5 stars though because there was a part in the middle that was a little boring.
But only the middle because the beginning is awesome. It starts in a super interesting way and hooked me up from the very first page.

I liked the background of the story and its development. I also enjoyed the originality of it all.
At the start, Caleb and Jess' relation is so sweet and cute, Kyle and Shani are wonderful supporting characters and their (short) story is interesting as well.

Gia... I liked her :)
A little bipolar for my taste but she had "doing-what-your-heart-wants-or-what you-should-do" issues so it's completely understandable.

What honestly was weird for me was the name, I mean, every time I read Gia Jones I couldn't stop thinking in G.I Joe O.o (yup! I'm that old! lol) and something similar happened when I read Caleb's full name: Caleb Elijah Wood (Who popped into my mind? FRODO! of course -.-)

description

Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins ( Lord of the Rings)

Name complaints apart, I loved it. There was romance, action, magic and a not very common creature.
I'm looking forward to reading more of KaSonndra Leigh.

It is great to have a POV from a guy. So, seeing things from Caleb’s perspective is unusual for me, since I read a lot from a girl’s POV. Change is a good thing.
You meet Caleb Wood, a typical guy, who is excited to be a senior in Ashley George High School. He is confident, kind, & stubborn. He has plans of what it will be for his last year in high school before he enter the real world. Until one day, he met a mysterious girl. Then things starting to change before his very eyes. The popular girl wants date him, his two best friends is keeping a secret, dark agents are after him, & he was falling in love with the mysterious girl. Will he be able to figure it out, before it spins out of control?
I enjoy this book very much! It is a nonstop adventure, that is filled with humor and excitement. I can't get enough of the characters, especially the relationship between Caleb and his mysterious girl. They have a truly connection, that makes you giggle and squirm in your seat. The enjoyment of the water creatures brings something fresh to the table, that gives a delightful input & harmonize with the characters very well. A series that is well created and it keeps the reader in the edge of their seat because it did to me and I am looking forward for the sequel.

I loved KaSonndra Leigh's book The Lost Immortals: When Copper Suns Fall, so I was very excited to read Dark Seraphine. It was excellently written from the male POV and I found it so refreshing. This is a must read beginning to a series I can't wait to dive back into.
Caleb was such a pleasurable leading character. He had a tendancy to put his foot in his mouth which at times made me laugh out loud. He had the normal teenage thought processes (hormones and all), but found himself facing life changing situations. I couldn't wait to turn the page to see what he would do next. Caleb had always been able to see "walkers", but had never interacted with them. That all changed on the first day of school when he met Gia. From that point on, nothing would be the same for him.
"My entire life was strange and odd. I saw spirits of things that made their way through my room, talked to animals that obeyed my command, and understood what people were thinking before they even muttered a word." Caleb faces many challenges throughout this book and I was so surprised by the ending! I highly recommend Dark Seraphine. LOVED IT! I am eagerly waiting for the next book in the series!!

I really liked the Setting and Plot behind this story. I think it was very creative and very enjoyable to read. Caleb and Gia, although they were great characters individually, I didn’t feel much chemistry between them. I found myself liking the secondary characters better than the main. In saying that I still think the story worked as it is, and now that they are together I think the chemistry will capture me more in the second story.

A few things I didn’t like was that I spent most the book trying to figure out what everyone was. I would have liked a few more hints, maybe a slip of the word that Caleb didn’t pick up on that I could of… I was a little confused as to what Caleb was, I know he’s half human, but a few things happen that made me think he was more. I’m planning on re reading when I get a chance to see if maybe I missed something.

I never suspected mermaids which is great. I don’t usually like books about mermaids so if I had read that in the synopsis I wouldn’t have read the book. I’m glad because it’s not your usual mermaid book. I found this book more-ish I’m really looking forward for the second book to come out.

If you’re looking for a book that is well written with a great story line, this is the book for you….

This book was amazing and is definitely a page turner. Because I had no time to read in the day, I ended up reading it at night and I just couldn't stop. I even sat by my phone charger just to read. Caleb is a very strong character, but isn't invincible, which makes him read. Because he has some weak points,he instantly becomes a real seventeen year-old boy who just wants to live a normal life. It can be funny at some points or serious in others. The mood set in the book was perfect and it gave me a few "I wonder what will happen next..." kinda moment. The thing I didn't like about this book was that it dragged on a bit too much at the beginning and did not show much information about his friend (which I am pretty sure is something the author wanted so we would keep reading). Other than that, I really loved the book and I can't wait to be able to read book 2 and 3 of this trilogy.

Favorite Lines “The funny thing was for the first time in a long while I actually trusted someone again.”

“Yes, the blowing smoke up your ass edition. Makes the doubters happy when we change mythical stories up a bit.”

“You touched my father’s heart with what you did. No human has ever sacrificed themselves for any of the Seraphine before. He sees you as a reminder of what all races can all be if we bond together. Even through our differences, we can change things.”

What a beautiful love story! Caleb and Gia are so adorable! These characters, you just want to love them. You want them to win. They are going to need it too! Gia is a water angel (Caleb's nickname) Caleb is the son of the Wanderer. The bad guys want Gia's real name and will do whatever they need to get it! There is so much Caleb doesn't know and so much he wish has hadn't found out!

Dark Seraphine is a wonderful story, written in Caleb's POV. And Caleb has quite a sense of humour.
Caleb has been able to see The Walker's for the longest time and he has kept it secret for a while now. As the story unfolds, we see Caleb discover who he is, and the reason why he can see the Walkers and the Dark Agents--oh these ones sent shivers scattering all over my body. The twist at the end of the story was a pleasant suprise, and I look forward to reading the next book in the Trilogy. I love a good cliffhanger and this one was a good one.

Book Review- Dark Seraphine by Kasonndra Leigh

In this first book of the Seraphine Trilogy, Caleb can see what he calls walkers. He thinks they are ghosts. He sees them but they have never talked to him, until her. He sees a strange girl with dark hair which isn’t shocking to him except when she talks to him. He is completely surprised. In fact she keeps popping in whenever she wants. Of course no one can see her. Caleb thinks he may be going crazy finally.
However things aren’t what they seem. The mystery ghost girl shows up at school with her group of friends. She is going by Gia. Caleb is torn. Erica apparently really likes him but he is drawn to Gia. Things are confusing and Gia gives mixed signals.
Something else is going on. The black trench coat wearing shadow men show up in town. Paige, one of Gia’s crew, turns on her and comes after Caleb. The closer Caleb gets to Gia the more he is drawn into her world. Until the truth comes out that he was always connected in some way.
A war is coming between good and evil. Caleb finds himself in the middle sacrificing what he needs to in order to help.
This story was interesting. I liked the storyline, however, it got confusing in some places. I was just as frustrated as Caleb was. Only my source of frustration was trying to figure out some parts of the story.
The author didn’t give very much information until farther into the story. So the path to get there was unclear at times. Trying to figure out what was really going on and why was a constant battle. I shared Caleb’s confusion over Gia’s behavior. Plus something was going on with Caleb but nothing really was explained. Gia was the cause of it but what was it? Did he go back to normal in the end? I had more questions at the end of the book than I liked. I give this book a 3 out of 5.
