The DK Star Wars series provides a wonderful opportunity for parents and teacher to promote development of young children's reading skills and motivation to read. We want young children to WANT to read! Star Wars has become a familiar part of our culture with children instantly recognizing the characters on book covers, T.V. and in the movies. Now they can add more Star Wars action to their collections! Perfect for young readers beginning to read alone, Chewbacca and the Wookiee Warriors follows Chewbacca, the woolly Wookiee, as he teams up with Jedi Ahsoka to smash and bash their way out of a planetwide Trandoshan hunting party with the help of the marooned Jedi younglings!
Simon Beecroft is the New York Times bestselling author of LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary as well as many other Star Wars titles for children, including Star Wars The Clone Wars: Watch Out For Jabba the Hutt, Star Wars: Luke Skywalker’s Amazing Story, and Star Wars: Beware the Dark Side. He has also written books on subjects as diverse as dinosaurs, extreme weather, future technology, Nelson Mandela, Power Rangers, and the Fantastic Four.
This one gets 4* for having some of the history of Cheebacca. In this book he is captured and rescued by Ahsoka and some other Jedi Padawans, showing off how very long a wookie's life is. Fun and nice early reader although it helps to be familiar with the series!
He loves Star Wars, so this was a book that was very easy to get him to read. He stumbled over a few words but not as many as I thought he would. Great tie in for early readers.
