Kamala Suraiyya (born Kamala; 31 March 1934 – 31 May 2009), also known by her one-time pen name Madhavikutty and Kamala Das, was an Indian English poet and littérateur and at the same time a leading Malayalam author from Kerala, India. Her popularity in Kerala is based chiefly on her short stories and autobiography, while her oeuvre in English, written under the name Kamala Das, is noted for the poems and explicit autobiography.

Her open and honest treatment of female sexuality, free from any sense of guilt, infused her writing with power, but also marked her as an iconoclast in her generation. On 31 May 2009, aged 75, she died at a hospital in Pune. Das has earned considerable respect in recent years.

This is a collection of 13 stories by Madhavikutty. The central theme discussed in it is love. The author narrates the happiness of the people in love and the sadness of betrayal in heart touching manner.

Yes. If the disease is love and the lost organ is heart,the patient often returns to where he has lost it. The person to whom he lost it might not be near to see the trouble he is going through,but the pain still exists. This is a story of such a journey,a journey to see for oneself what one has lost. Had it ended with a happily-ever-after,it wouldn't have touched so many hearts. But that the author left the characters to live their own lives fulfilling the duties they have towards their family and society is what makes it different. I don't know whether it is good or bad,the way the story ended. But it had a poignant feeling throughout. And that made it an interesting read.

This was a disappointing short story collection from Madhavikkutty. Expected a lot more. Yes, there were a few impressive stories like "Mukhamillatha Kappithan" & "Genuisinte bharya". But stories like "Ennennum Thara", "Anthyakoodasha" & "Rosykkutty" were below-par imo. Even the title story "Nashtappetta Neelambari" was not that impressive, just okay(I had thought it would be really good, having seen the movie adaptation"Mazha"). All in all, a middling collection without even a single story that really stands out.

Note: Anybody who is planning to buy the kindle version, please don't. Better buy a physical copy. The eBook is full of punctuation errors & spelling mistakes, and sometimes even words not in the original story seems to be used. Quite a shoddy job by DC Books.

എന്താണ് സുഭദ്രയ്ക്ക് നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടത്... മുല്ലയും പിച്ചിയും ജമന്തിയും കാട്ടുതുളസിയുടേയും ഗന്ധം തങ്ങിനിൽക്കുന്ന മധുരയുടെ തെരുവുകളോ, മീനാക്ഷി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ തണുത്ത മിനുത്ത അകത്തളങ്ങളോ... അതോ തിലകഹോമത്തിന്റെ തിരികള് തെളിഞ്ഞ സന്ധ്യയിൽ അദ്ധേഹം അവള്ക്കായ് ആലപിച്ച നീലാംബരി രാഗം തന്നെയോ...!

മാധവിക്കുട്ടിയുടെ കവിതകളിലൂടെയാണ് അവരുടെ കൃതികളെ ഞാൻ പരിചയപ്പെടുന്നതും അതിൽ ആകൃഷ്ടയാവുന്നതും. പതിമൂന്ന് ചെറുകഥകളുടെ സമാഹാരമാണ് നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട നീലാംബരി. ഈ പുസ്തകം തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തതിനുള്ള പ്രധാന കാരണം 'നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട നീലാംബരി' എന്ന ചെറുകഥയെ ആസ്പദമാക്കി ലെനിൻ രാജേന്ദ്രൻ ചിത്രീകരിച്ച 'മഴ' എന്ന സിനിമയോടുള്ള അഗാധമായ പ്രണയം തന്നെയാണ്. പട്ടണത്തിൽ പഠിച്ചുവളർന്ന, തന്റെ വീക്ഷണങ്ങളെയും ഇഷ്ടങ്ങളെയും സ്പഷ്ടമായി പറയുന്ന ശക്തയായ താരയുടെ കഥപറയുന്ന 'എന്നെന്നും താര' എനിക്ക് വളരെ ഏറെ ഇഷ്ട്ടപെട്ടു. 'പച്ച ജാക്കറ്റ്, പാലക്കാ മോതിരം' അണിയണമെന്ന മോഹം ഒരു ജീവിതായസ്സു മുഴുവൻ മനസ്സിൽ അടക്കിവെക്കുകയും ഭയരഹിതയായി മരണകിടക്കയിലെങ്കിലും അത് പറയാൻ വെമ്പുന്ന മീനാക്ഷിയമ്മയുടെ മാനസിക വ്യഥയെ അവതരിപ്പിച്ച ഹൃദയസ്പർശിയായ കഥയാണ് 'മീനാക്ഷിയമ്മയുടെ മരണം'. ഇങ്ങനെ അദൃശ്യമായ ചങ്ങലക്കെട്ടിൽ കുടുങ്ങി ജീവൻ ഹോമിക്കേണ്ടിവന്ന ഓരോ ആത്മാക്കളുടെയും പലവിധ നൊമ്പരങ്ങളെ കൂട്ടിക്കെട്ടിയ ഈ സമാഹാരം ഹൃദ്യമായൊരു വായനാനുഭവമാണെന്നതിൽ സംശയമില്ല.

മഴ എന സിനിമ കണ്ടതിന് ശേഷമാണ് ഈ കഥ വായിച്ചത്. കഥയുടെ ആഴം ആ സിനിമക്ക് മുഴുവനായി ഉള്‍ക്കൊള്ളാനായോ എന്ന്‍ സംശയം !!!
