For some people it's a dream - bringing a child into the world, with someone you love. Starting a family and gearing yourself up for your Happy Ever After. For some people, it's something they have dreamed about since they were a little girl. But not Jessica, not even eighteen years of age yet, she doesn't feel ready. She doesn't want 9 Months of discomfort, and a baby at the end of it. She doesn't feel as though she's lived enough of her own life yet. Maybe one day, just not right now. It's just too bad her kidnapper seems hell-bent on keeping her and her baby alive.
What do they want with her baby? What will happen to her after she's given birth? I guess, in 9 Months, she'll find out. Until then, she's in for the long haul...
Book One of the '9 Months' series - told through the eyes of the people living the nightmare. Continue your reading experience in Matt Shaw's 'Happy Ever After' World....

MATT SHAW was born, quite by accident (his mother tripped, he shot out) September 30th 1980 in Winchester hospital where he was immediately placed on the baby ward and EBay. Some twelve years later (wandering the corridors of the hospital and playing with road kill when he was on day release), the listing closed and he remained unsold, he was booted out of the hospital to start his life as a writer and hobbit – beginning with writing screenplays and short stories for his own amusement before finally getting published when he was twenty-seven years and forty-five seconds old.
Once Published weekly in a lad's magazine with his photography work, Matt Shaw is also a published author and cartoonist. Has to be said, can be a bit of a flirt and definitely, without a shadow of a doubt, somewhat of a klutz.
Favourite books "Roald Dahl's Collection of Short Stories" Tim Burton's Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy Anything, really, written by himself. Because he is that good.
A great book, excellent, easy to read and very suspensful. It makes you keep reading just to know what happens next. Can't wait to read the next chapter.
Earlier today, I reviewed Matt Shaw's Paralysed: A novel of Extreme Horror and Sex, wherein I commented about how I felt his scene transitions (switching from past to present) were confusing and ineffectively advanced his stories. Well, excuse me a moment while I take my foot out of my mouth. In this story, his technique is very effective and brilliantly employed. Well done, Mr. Shaw!
Jessica, a seventeen-year-old girl, embarks on her first date with her schoolmate, Darren. He seems to be a great young man and she enjoys his company. Maybe a bit too much. Jessica discovers that she is pregnant. Darren, and even her parents, accept the news rather happily. But Jessica doesn't feel ready parenthood. She decides to terminate her pregnancy. The problem is, someone strongly disagrees with her decision. Jessica soon finds herself being held captive by a hooded figure intent on preventing her abortion. Who would do such a thing? Is it for Jessica's own good? Or is there a more sinister motive?
Well-written and engrossing, this short story lacks Shaw's typical shock, gore, depravity and violence, but is nonetheless entertaining. I'll be starting book two in the series tonight.
Jesus! Didn't see that coming. Awesome read that was. Finishing the Book One make you more eager to continue read next...
Simple but suspenseful and a great book. Jessica 18 years old and accidentally somehow she became pregnant with her boyfriend Darren. Though it was unexpected for both of them as neither thought this would turn out in their life with huge responsibility. Jessica on the other hand didn't want the baby yet in her life but there's no value of her choice as she fully became aware she been prisoned in some kind of room. From that time she struggled to free but all in vein. The ending part was so surprising and best of this tale. Well never mind and no more talking (writing actually) but me going for the next round of this "9 months" book series, Cheers!!
This is the story of Jessica. She has been asked out by Darren and he seems to be the boy of her dreams. Things develop and she finds herself pregnant. After much soul searching, she decides not to carry on with the pregnancy. That's when her problems really begin and she is kidnapped by someone who is determined she will deliver her baby.
This was another dark, dark story. This seems to be Matt's style and it appeals to my own dark side. It has a principle cast of 4 or 5, and focuses on Jessica and her acceptance (or not!) of her situation. Told in flashback and in the present and told from the different point of views of Jessica and Darren, it was gripping stuff. The parts that focussed on Jessica's captivity were particularly claustrophobic. The tension was built up to fever pitch and the book ended in such a way as to ensure that the reader has to read the next.
This was a great book, I finished reading it and immediately purchased the other two books in the series. The ending shocked me. I enjoyed reading this book. The book is about a young girl that gets pregnant and decides to abort her baby, then she is kidnapped and the rest of the book is a roller coaster ride of suspense, terror and thrills. The biggest problem I found with the book is that you really don't know who to root for! Very easy read as all three volumes only took me 2 days to read them. Another Matt Shaw success....
I love this kind of writing, as I too have written a short like this. I love the way the story wastold although it could be a little confusing from the part of Jessica because her part was told in the past and present day, it went back and forth so I found myself having to reread some parts. However all in all I really enjoyed this portion of the book. Now on to part 2...
The beauty (and the curse) of the Kindle is that you can pick up a book (or twenty like I do!) and they get shuffled to the back of the pile until you rediscover them...and have no recollection what they were about, you just know they were interesting enough to want them. I didn't know what to expect with this one for that very reason. When I first cracked it open, I immediately liked the style, short choppy sentences, told from the characters' perspective. I don't like to harp on style too much, because it was clear that this book holds a strong English tone. My only real problem was how it switched back and forth between past and present tense. It didn't stop me from reading, however. The story is interesting enough to carry it past such minor bumps.
Strong characters made this really relateable. From Jessica's perspective, I was able to reflect back on my own first date experiences and, God, agonizing! When told from Darren's viewpoint, even better. I was able to get into the mind of the boy and see that he felt much the same way. Funny how, as a girl, you tend to forget that boys are human too :)
When Jessica discovers she is pregnant, she isn't thrilled and is undecided what to do about it. Darren is sure, he wants to keep the baby, form a family and pretty much fashions an idyllic future in his mind. When Jessica reveals to him and her parents that she has chosen not to have the baby, he is devastated and vows to stop her from ruining his dream. So, when Jessica wakes up chained to the bed, there really is no question as to who is her kidnapper, right?
I really, really liked how the story flipped from Jessica in captivity to the events leading up to it. It was an interesting way to tell the story, and it took a little getting used to, but once I was in, I wan IN. The story leaves you hanging, but with a horrifying discovery, a truth that you kind of might have suspected could be possible, but could never really be sure, and now I have to know more!
Another of those free books you download to discover if you want to know the rest you have to purchase the 2nd nd 3rd books. I enjoyed the first one so much I had no choice but to purchase the others. The author did great to leave me wanting more however I couldn't get my head around the twist in the story. I liked the ending because it wasn't predictable however was still a bit miffed by the whole whodunnit!?!
I want to give 3.5 stars really! Too many typos and grammatical mistakes, which are so easily avoided if proofed properly, have marred this. Great idea, easy to read and English! Sadly I did see it coming and not too sure if I want to know what happens next. Giving away the identity of the kidnapper at the end of book one beggars the question-is the rest of the plot strong enough to carry on for a further two books?
This was like a very short story. I got it free on my Kindle. It was a spin on what happens to a young girl who has sex with a boy and gets pregnant. She is sure the boy loves her and wants her. She finds herself trapped and doesn't know what will happen next. The suspense builds until the final sentence. I figured it out but I have to say that I would be interested in reading the rest of the series. This should be classified as a YA fiction book.
I got this one through Amazon as a free read for my Kindle. I finally checked it out & have to say I was a little surprised that I couldn't stop reading. It's a different take, a little surprise ending & it just sucks you in with a free read so that you want to go back to buy the rest of the series (2 more books) to see what comes next & how it ends!
This was a great quick read. It's a dark and creepy story that had me hooked from the start. I only planned to read the first one for now when I started but I ended up not being able to put it down. I ended up reading all three books in one sitting. It was just such a strange and unusual story that I had to know how it would end. My whole day was spent reading but it was totally worth it!
9 Months - Book One was an awesome read! I was not able to put it down the entire time I was reading it. If you want a story that will keep you on edge & you never knowing what will happen next then this is the trilogy to pick up!!!
Written in a similar style to the Happy Ever After series, and a style I really like. Fast moving, sharp dialogue, and realistic characters - this was a great read and sets the story up nicely for part two.
If you enjoyed the Happy Ever After series you need to read this series next.
I enjoyed the way this switched from past to present and I also enjoyed the different view points. It didn't feel confusing or complicated. As for the story it was really good, sad and tragic.
