Heroine, the prim Miss Jones of the title, finds out the identity of her father after mother’s death. Her widowed father has just suffered a heart attack and needs a carer. He takes a shine to the heroine and installs her in his home without looking at her credentials. His godson, the hero, is very suspicious and does his own background check.
Heroine is nervous around the H because he’s so good looking and she does feel guilty about not revealing her true identity. She doesn’t want to give her father another heart attack, since he had no idea she even existed.
Hero, meanwhile, is in full asshat mode until he starts working closely with the heroine during the afternoons. She is a highly efficient secretary and he has moved his office to his godfather’s estate to keep an eye on everything.
H/h eventually have a sexual relationship – prompted by a mid-night meeting as the hero recovers from man flu. (No sponging) The sex scenes are surprisingly hot, considering how nervous and buttoned down the heroine has been. It’s not super clear, but it seems heroine was a virgin.
Our manwhore hero uncharacteristically asks the heroine to move in with him. Heroine rejects this offer and hero is angry at the rejection. Then his former gf shows up. Heroine is convinced hero was sleeping with both of them at the same time. Hero won’t answer her question because entitled manwhores never answer questions. OW manages to riffle through the heroine’s room and finds letters from the heroine’s father that prove she is his daughter.
Her father is delighted. Hero is angry that heroine lied about her true identity and storms off to London. Heroine stays with her father, but mopes around for the hero.
Heroine’s father hosts a ball so that the heroine can meet eligible bachelors. Hero can’t stay away. The rest of the story is the hero trying to get over his jealousy and coming to grips with his new feelings of love. It’s really amusing to follow this Lynne-Graham-type hero on his journey to human. Heroine is too hurt to see how the hero is stewing in his own juices.
This is really a 3 star read until the last third, when the hero had to scramble. His thought processes are amusing since he knows he’s being unreasonable, but can’t help himself. Heroine is Penny Jordan heroine – complete with bad nerves and lots of tears – so be warned

I can't help it. Every time I see that book cover, it looks like he is tweaking her nipple! I forget now what even happened in the story, though I do recall enjoying the relationship between Elizabeth and her father (who didn't know he was her father).

Maybe more than 3. The h Elizabeth has discovered a (filthy rich, elderly, widowed, childless 🙏😂) father she never knew. She doesn't make the relationship clear when she gets accidentally taken on as his carer. Sexy manwhore godson Andreas is suspicious. Despite her apparently average looks (apart from tumbling long hair and big boobs) this connoisseur of supermodels begins to lust after her. (Well it IS fantasy and fiction I guess). The sex was surprisingly explicit and upfront for one of these. Fair play. He is a never explain, never get caught bachelor type and ofc she wants more (and takes reasonable exception to the OW. In fairness he wasn't two timing at that point). The last third is basically the Hs jealousy and struggles to get himself to commitment. It was a bit different, sort of, maybe.

I didn't expect to like this but I ended up loving this book. The hero was intense, sexy and he had a good heart. Yes he ws stubborn at times but its what made the romance so sweet at the end!

Doch zwischen ihnen steht immer noch das Geheimnis von Elizabeth.
Verwechslungsgeschichten sind immer so interessant und spannend. Elizabeth tat mir etwas leid. Doch wie und wann will man die Wahrheit sagen. Als das Knistern, der beiden immer stärker wird, kann man es nicht mehr erwarten. Doch das Geheimnis begleitet einen die ganze Zeit. Das Herrenhaus hat viele Geheimnisse und Schatten in seinen Mauern.

I like how Williams used language to get us (readers) right in the heat of the intimate moments Elizabeth and Andreas shared. This book could serve as the perfect guideline for how ladies could, so perfectly, keep men around (if it is their desire). However, ways of doing that differ from person to person. Playing a little hard-to-get has never really gone bad for a lady as far as keeping Mr Right *wink*. This book is perfect for people who are madly in love with romance regardless of the predictable happy endings.

I liked this one more than I expected to. It was sweet, sassy, and sexy. I didn't care too much for the end, but it was amusing to watch Andreas flounder around at her party and after. This wasn't your usual he-thinks-she's-a-gold-digger-so-he's-an-aggressive-ass-and-treats-her-like-shit story. And as always, I do love my heroes named Andreas...

9/10. Thoroughly enjoyed this book. A fun sweet read. Great depth to the characters and descriptions of the scenes. Loved being in their world. Loved the quirkiness of the Heroinne. This belongs in my favourites list now. great story.

December 21, 2016The book started out like any other run of the mill romance. Handsome, intelligent, rich, no strings attached hero. Insipid, virginal, beautiful, often overwhelmed by lust at the sight of handsome hero and loses ability to speak when she sees him heroine.

I have read this one before. It still managed to work for me. Mainly because the female is charmingly straight forward in the book. And there is a awesome sex scene in their workplace, no less !!!
The girl comes looking for an old richie rich man. He happens to be daddy dear, whom mummy ran away from, because daddy was married and it was only a fling. Now that mummy is dead, girl comes looking for daddy.
As she enters daddy's home, she finds daddy's rich, foul mouthed and ever suspicious god son - the hero. While the dad and girl hit it off straight away, this fellow is always in two minds about her intentions.
After some Tom and Jerry chases between the leads, they do finally succumb to the 'pull of the flesh' ! And that part doesn't jar. The sex scenes come across as passionate, natural.
As always, she is looking for HEA, he is looking for a quick lay. Conflict of interest.
Daddy dear play mischief. Our alpha hero realizes the permanent turn on mode that he is in, is simply because its looooveeee !! In the mean time, the girl has also inherited daddy's riches, so gold digging motives are anyway out of the window !
Good confession in the end by the hero. Sweet girl, smart in work, sexy too. What more can he ask for ??

La dosis justa de misterio, celos y hombre vencido por el amor que me gusta!
Sospechosamente ella aparece sin una sola referencia y él (con ese tercer sentido que tiene y que le ha ayudado a ser un crack de los negocios) no deja de perseguirla para cuidar a su padrino porque algo sospecha.
Entretenida historia que hacia el final se pone un poco reiterativa pero que te hace reir viendo como "él" actúa de forma extraña porque no tiene ni idea que le pasa y... ¡es el amor!
