After the events of the first book Kana has been both happier and more on edge. He has shown who he is to others and found acceptance and possibly love in Ember's pack. But at the same time, that exposure ruins the slight sense of safety Kana had in hiding all these years and brings up fears of retribution from his old coven. When a hunter comes to town poking around Ember's pack it seems that all of Kana's fears may have been true.
As with the first book we continue to see parts of the past, Kana's life in the coven and then when he was first on his won, as well as the present. There is so much more to Kana that meets the eye and it looks like this could be even bigger for witches as well. We learn a bit more about his coven then and now and it is clear that Kana leaving has changed things and it is curious if it will mean something more both to his old coven, and to other witches as more gets revealed about him and his abilities.
Ember really steps up in this book and shows that he is there for Kana. Despite the fact that Kana has trouble with his old coven and fears for what it could mean for him, Ember still makes it clear that Lana has a place in his pack. Not only does he show that he has a standing, Ember also makes it clear that he has the pack's protection and support. It truly opens things up for Kana and brings their relationship to a new level.
It will be interesting to see where things go from here. While the immediate threat has gone, it is clear that there is something more to Kana and it could open up some new doors, or bring some entirely new threats. Curious to see what happens!
