In een zomerhuis aan het strand op het Zweedse eiland Gotland wordt vlak voor midzomer een jong stel dood aangetroffen op gruwelijke wijze vermoord. Beiden hebben de Zweedse nationaliteit, maar zijn oorspronkelijk afkomstig uit Egypte. In eerste instantie lijkt het een daad met racistische motieven.
Maar al snel wordt de zaak gecompliceerder. In het huis wordt een Egyptisch paspoort gevonden van een man die getuige moet zijn geweest van de moord. Waar is die man nu? En waarom meldt hij zich niet bij de politie? Heeft de moordenaar wellicht de verkeerde mensen doodgeschoten?

Veel vragen voor de recherche in Visby die met de zaak behoorlijk in zijn maag zit. Dat geldt zeker voor inspecteur Fredrik Broman die tijdens het politieonderzoek heel andere dingen aan zijn hoofd heeft. Nadat zijn vrouw hem de deur heeft uitgezet, leidt hij op zijn zachtst gezegd een chaotisch bestaan.
De vondst van de Egyptische pas blijkt het begin van een reeks ingewikkelde en gewelddadige gebeurtenissen die het hele land op zijn kop zet en zelfs een minister ten val brengt.

About the author

Östlundh was born in 1962 into an academic home in the university town of Uppsala, just north of Stockholm. He grew up in Stockholm where he still lives.

Since both his parents were politically active, Östlundh's youth was influenced by the Social Democratic party and the labour movement, but after an initial stint working for the movement's news agency he went his own way.

He studied comparative literature and history of ideas at Stockholm University. He made an early debut as a writer (1981), but later came to work mainly as a journalist for Sweden's best-selling morning paper Dagens Nyheter, among others. In the mid-nineties he was hired as a scriptwriter marking the start of an intensive period working in the TV industry until the publication of his first crime novel.

Östlundh is married and has three sons. His favourite authors include Dennis Lehane and Haruki Murakami. When he was fifteen he cut class just so he could read all ten of Sjöwall & Wahlöö's mysteries.

Vooruit 1 ster voor de inspanning om zo’n flutboek in elkaar te flansen!
Joejoe, jip-en-janneke taal! Perfect voor NT2 mensen die op B2 niveau hun examen gaan doen.
Simpele dialogen, nul diepgang, veel te veel namen en owja, mag de lezer ook zelf iets interpreteren? Dank…

Tot overmaat van ramp op -hebban- nog een uilskuiken die de dader verraadt in zijn recensies.

I have been reading this series for a little bit now and my overall conclusion is ‘they’re not great, but they also don’t bore me’. Meaning I still want to keep reading and every book is just a little different. Also nice you read a little from the killer’s perspective from time to time.

The only thing that bothered me with this one is the amount of typo’s.. it was too much. Also the style was different from previous books.

Did still enjoy the book! I give most of these 3-3,5 stars because as I said they are not great, but also not very bad.

A nice book, but not as good and as gripping as the first two books in this series.
The ending, outcome, luckily at the very end of the book was surprising but still logical.
The whodunnit earlier in the book and the rest of the loose ends that needed to be tied were okay, but not spectacular.
I'll continue in part 4 now.

Grappig om te zien dat er ook mensen zijn die deel 1 en 2 beter vonden. In mijn beleving is deel 3 een beter verhaal, stukje met privé erbij, wordt interessanter!

Ben scritto, in linea con i gialli nordici. La trama, rispetto al filone di appartenenza, a volte è un po complessa. Si ha come la sensazione che tenda ad uscire un po dal seminato. La lettura procede velocemente e in maniera molto coinvolgente.
