The brief lives of Francisco and Jacinta Marto "were as ordinary and as predictable as those of the sheep they tended. The only exceptional thing that happened to them is the reason for their fame, though not for their beatification. A year or two before their deaths, at nine and ten years old, they were visited by a young woman, who herself had died more than eighteen hundred years earlier." With these words the author introduces the beatified seers of Fatima, Francisco and Jacinta Marto. Never before have the lives of these children been examined in such detail and with such refreshing insight.
Prior to starting to read this book, I had read several other books on Fatima and thought I was knowledgeable and ready for a Fatima Pilgrimage. Not so. When I started reading the book, I realized that there was so much more that I had missed. I took the book with me on my Fatima Pilgrimage for almost two weeks. I can honestly say I had ZERO time on the Pilgrmaige to read much more than a very few pages of this book which I was extremely anxious to read.
As soon as I returned, I immediately read the book! Leo Madigan is a very good author and while on my Pilgrimage I found out that he had died. He wrote a number of other very good books, and I plan to obtain as many as I can and read them. This writer has both an interesting style and also manages to find details and facts that other writers apparently do not.
This is a very important book to read for anyone interested in Fatima and the children who were there.
The faith of these children is inspiring, amazing and so beautiful. The lives of Lucia's cousins, whose lives were cut short but whose love and faith for the Blessed Mother was so strong - I only pray I am that faithful when put to the test.
a wonderful written book of Biblical history that know one talks about they should talk about this historical event on TV specials. However, not everyone knows about this event. We all need to pray more. This event "One day" a year not enough.
