The Pirate's Eye, Stitch Head is the second book in this creepy but fun children's series written by Guy Bass and illustrated by Pete Williamson. Readers that have not read the first Stitch Head book will miss out on the explanation that describes how Stitch Head and the other residents of the castle came to be, and the friendship forged with a girl from the village, but the fun and adventure will not let them lose interest in the unique world. Stitch Head is still tending to Castle Grotteskew all by himself, keeping watch over Mad Professor Erasmus and helping the other creations by curing them of whatever madness they are infected by. Lost in his self pity Stitch Head spends more and more time in the room he was created in, and finds a pirate book that he remembered. Feeling completely abandoned by the professor, Stitch Head and his friends decide to make a go at being pirates. As usual, nothing quite goes as planned, but in some ways that turns out for the best.

The Pirate's Eye is a wonderful follow up to Stitch Head. The characters of the creature, Stitch Head, the professor, Arabella, and all of the other main players are further fleshed out, and there is plenty of adventure. The discovery of the pirate book and the professor's sudden absence from the castle are catalysts for the entire story. There are twists that I expected to be coming in some way, but I enjoyed the journey and was still surprised by some of the twists and turns that the story took.

i thought that Stitch Head's efforts to become a pirate were fun, exciting, and a little sad. I am not sure that the target market, 8-12 year-olds, will see the sad aspect the way I do. However, I think the larger idea of living your life only for another, with absolutely no care for yourself, might come through for them.

I recommend The Pirate's Eye to readers that enjoyed Stitch Head. I think children that like to read books that are a little different, or a little dark, with adventure and charm will enjoy this series. It kept me interested while also speaking to the part in all of us that are looking for love and acceptance to those closest to us.

Background: Stitch Head is a creation of Mad Professor Erasmus, actually the first creation. He has been long forgotten and cleans up after the Professor and his wild monstrous creations throughout the castle. Stitch Head has resigned himself to the shadows, doing his self appointed job and doing it well. In this installment Stitch Head realizes that he may in fact be part pirate and that is great because the Professor has left the castle and it is time for adventure!

Review: I really enjoyed the first book of Stitch Head, with its macabre pictures and adorable little rag doll main character. Again I enjoyed this plot as well. After having read the first, you get to know Stitch Head a little more in The Pirates Eye, he has more feelings and is still searching for himself and what he wants to do with his half-existence.

I like that he was not as lonely in this story but I also like the other characters; they play well off of one another. Stitch Head tends to be pessimistic, Creature is overly optimistic and Arabella is violent and spontaneous. There is even a cute/ terrifying new addition to the squad.

As per the last installment, I think these would be great for boys (and girls if they are into creations and madness and overall scary things). I think this plot was more exciting than the first edition and I assume they can only improve from here. I cannot wait to read more of Stitch Head and his adventures in finding himself.

I was thrilled to receive this second Stitch Head book for review. It was as awesome as the first. I love the cutely scary little character Stitch Head and his loving loyalty to his creator the Mad Scientist.

In this second book we see more of Stitch Head's new friends both from the village and the castle (Evil creatures he turned good before they caused much trouble). The story is so funny and action packed that I can't wait to turn the page even though I am grown. I absolutely love the illustrations. The style of illustration adds so much to the story. Eye candy plus a super hero that doesn't quite fit the traditional description.

Stitch wanted action and may have gotten more than he bargained for in this exciting and good intention filled read. Plenty of mishaps to overcome in incredibly creative ways.

Love Stitch Head.

I wish Stitch Head didn't have so many daddy issues. Otherwise, this book is just as delightful as the other two! I love the Creature.

Accomplished, Entertaining and Touching

Stitch Head was the first creation of the Mad Professor's back when the Mad Professor was still just a mad boy. Stitch Head, having been forgotten by the Mad Professor stays on at Castle Grotteskew, completely loyal to the Professor. Hidden from view, Stitch Head uses his skill with potions and chemistry to gentle and civilize each of the Professor's mad creatures, as they are created, with the result being that the scary Castle is really filled with terrifying looking but actually gentle and civilized creatures of all sorts of horrible aspect.

That is the set up from book one in this series, and it continues here in book two. But while I admired book one as imaginative and charming in an odd ball way, I really like this book two much more. In this volume all of the odd elements have blended together and mellowed and the characters have become more focused, as has the plotting.

So, in book one we had Stitch Head, who was sometimes a bit of a moper and sadsack. We had the Mad Professor, who seemed cold and uncaring and not very interesting. We had Stitch Head's sidekick, Creature, who was awfully one dimensional and simple. And, we had a lot more explication than we did plot.

But here, Stitch Head has taken charge of his almost life, has come to grips with the fact he is a man made monster, and has become more assertive about having his own adventurous life. Stitch has some spunk and backbone.Creature has become a funnier and more insightful side kick, who provides comedy relief but also contributes to the action and helps move the story along. Arabella, a tough-as-nails-heart-of-gold local girl who showed up just at the end of book one is now a full fledged character and adds a lot of common sense and skeptical banter to the proceedings, (which is a nice balance to Stitch Head's essential sweetness). Then, we get a pirate based plot and all of the stars align for a really engaging and exciting adventure.

And this is a funny book. There is slapstick, sly humor, funny banter, subtle throwaways, running jokes, one off situations, and some silliness. All of it good humored, and much of it balanced by a certain wry touch of sympathy for outsiders and those with differences. Very engaging stuff.

So, everything has been improved, deepened and made more interesting in this volume two. Some of the nagging reluctance I had about whole heartedly embracing the Stitch Head books has been erased. This is now top notch, imaginative, non-standard, amusing reader friendly fare.

For what it's worth, it would probably help to read book one first, just in order to get all of the characters' origins stories straight. But, the author does a very good job in the first few chapters of bringing the reader up to speed, and while this works best as just a refresher it also works well as an introduction and so should allow a reader to get right into this volume.

Please note that I received a free advance ecopy of this book in exchange for a candid review. Apart from that I have no connection at all to either the author or the publisher of this book.

After saving Castle Grotteskew from the evil clutches of Fulbert Freakfinder, Stitch Head is finally free to start a new life. So he decides to live his dream and set sail on the high seas. Meanwhile his master, Professor Erasmus, leaves the castle to accept the prestigious Lifetime of Mad Professoring Award… and doesn’t come back. All is not well, and soon Stitch Head, the Creature and Arabella are racing across the waves on a desperate quest to rescue the professor from a mysterious enemy. Does this hapless, semi-human creature have the power to defeat his foes – again?

This is the second book in the series and just as hilarious as the first.
The book starts off with one of the Professors creations on the loose again this time an Octopus and as always Stitch Head has to use one of his potions to make the creature nice.
He discovers the Professors old bedroom where he was created and comes across a pirate book that Eramus used to read to him.
Arabella their friend from the village is convinced that the bright blue eye that is Stitch Heads belonged to Captain Flashpowder in the pirate book.
However when Eramus receives a letter inviting him to collect his Mad Professor award and then subsequently another letter saying he isn't coming home again things become very suspicious.
So begins another adventure this time on the high seas. Will Stitch Head , Arabella , the creature and Pox ( who I will leave you to meet, not wanting to spoil the fun!) be in time to save the Professor?
Once again I found myself laughing out loud at the second instalment of Guy Bass's hilariously funny books.
The illustrations are amazingly creepy but not too creepy for a children's book.
Guy once again teaches us that it's okay to be different and that we are not are all made the same.
I'm looking forward to book three.
I gave this book 5 stars and would recommend it for children 8+ and adults of course!!

Such a quick, fun read. These books are clearly for younger readers (around 8-10 I would say) but I love them too. Stitch Head is so cute and his pessimism is nicely balanced out by Creature' s excess optimism. And Arabella just makes me laugh. The adventure is short but great fun to read about. I will definitely continue the series.

Das ist leider nicht ansatzweise so gut wie Teil eins. Es wiederholt sich recht viel, und hat wenig eigene Handlung. Katharina Thalbach liest allerdings immer noch großartig.

I'm not the biggest fan of pirate-themed books but I thought this one was so sweet and so much fun. There's something so comforting about this series, I just know that everything is going to turn out OK in the end.

3.5⭐

Będzie krótko, bo czytałam ją jakiś miesiąc temu i mało pamiętam.

First Impression:

Love the adorable cover. Stitch Head is just so cute
The Illustrations inside are amazing, just gorgeous! Added so much to the story.
The book is hardcover and the pages are a thick weight making this just a gorgeous book to have on display.

The Story:

Is Stitch Head a pirate? When he finds an old Diary with a picture on it Stitch Head wonders if the mans eye might be the same as the eye he was patched together with.
The professor won an award...or did he?
This story was once again so much fun
I enjoyed the adventure Stitch head and his friends went on. They really tried to make him feel better about himself and make him realize once again he is not forgettable.

The Characters:

Stitch Head: So cute, I really feel for him, he just feels so unimportant.
"Creature": Still no name, but still hilarious!
Arabella: She really might be my favorite, she cracks me up and so ready for a fight
Pox: I can't wait for you to meet him
Don't want to give anything away but I do love all the characters in this book. So much fun.

Final Thoughts:

Great read for all ages.
Super cute story and adorable characters
Highly Recommend for anyone looking for a fun adventure, lots of laughs and eye catching illustrations.
A series you must read yourself or with your kids.

Thanks for stopping by to check out my review.

Have a great day and Happy Reading!

Take a second to check out my blog www.buzzonbooks.com

I do recommend reading the original Stitch Head book first for the introduction to the characters.
This book is another creative piece brought to you by the brain of Guy Bass. Although I found this one a little more predictable, it didn’t disappoint.
After finding a pirates journal, Stitch Head realizes that his eye matches the eyes of the pirate so he comes to the conclusion that he must be part pirate! The characters set off to save Professor Erasmus in their big pirate ship and of course the Creature and Arabella add to the hilarity of the situations.
You really feel for Stitch Head in this book, he is genuinely curious to know where his pieces come from (every piece of the creations are reused from previous monsters or things that the professor has collected). After hearing that the Professor has been kidnapped by pirates Stitch Head realizes that he is the Professors only hope at being rescued. Since he is part pirate he was made for this adventure!
I feel like if I give away any more details I’m going to start giving away the story, but I definitely recommend this series for girls and boys alike in the above mentioned age range. It is a great series for reluctant readers because although it comes in novel form, the pictures make it less intimidating and the story is funny and filled with adventure. This could also be used as a read aloud for younger kids, just make sure they won’t be scared by the dark feel of the book (although it looks and feels scary, the stories in this series actually aren’t).

Stitch Head is back! After saving Castle Grotteskew from a greedy circus leader and an angry mob of townsfolk, Stitch Head didn’t regain the love and affection of his old friend, the Mad Professor Erasmus, but he did gain a few new friends.

When Professor Erasmus leaves the castle, it’s up to Stitch Head to keep things in order, but when word comes in that the Professor has been kidnapped by pirates, it’s up to Stitch Head to save the day again.

I REALLY enjoyed the first book and I enjoyed this one just as much. The writing is witty, the characters memorable and the pacing perfect. These are books that will appeal to both young boys and girls, and will also appeal to a wide range of ages. The stories are light and fun enough for younger children interested in chapter books, and fun and interesting enough to also appeal to Middle Grade and higher.

The characters are all adorable and memorable. Even the pirates have their own appeal. I especially love that Stitch Head is so non-conventional — a monster by definition — but he has such a big heart. It’s sad to see how desperately he wants his old friend to remember and care about him, but his loyalty and dedication to his old friend is very admirable.

Just as fun and filled with even more adventure, I enjoyed this book just as much as the first. If you have a reluctant reader at home, I would highly recommend this series. Heck, I’d recommend it to pretty much anyone.

3.5 Solid Stars!

I was in the mood for something different when I picked Stitch Head up from Netgalley. Actually I have to admit the book cover was the thing that caught my attention first. I thought it was different, original, and a little creepy. Since creepy seemed to be part of my mood, I really wanted to get my hands on the book.

Stitch Head is a little creepy Children's book about Mad Professor Erasmus, first and very forgotten creation. They all live in a fictional town in a Castle Grotteskew, where the Mad Professor keeps coming up with all these odd monsters - that Stitch Head tries to fix when they go bad.

Upon discovering the "Diary" of a pirate, Stitch Head is convinced because he has the same blue eye as the pirate on the cover, that he too can be a pirate. When the Mad Professor Erasmus get's kidnapped, with the help of his friends Stitch Head sets out on a pirate adventure in order to help him.

Stitch Head is a book about friendship, imagination and adventure. Filled with loyalty, and a small patchwork doll with a big heart. I did enjoy this cute quick read. I thought the illustrations were done nicely and the writing kept you entertained from the very first page!

I liked Stitch Head and his friends Arabella and Creature. I am looking forward to more adventures from the little patchwork monster!

I got a copy of this book through Netgalley in exchange of an honest review!
