Rate this book
Once upon a time, the last Immortal lost his powers to an Aenuk Healer and her tree.
Nine hundred years later, he learns that an Immortal child is going to be born, and with it, a chance to regain his lost magic...
The Kara and Aenuk races have been enemies for centuries, but for Llew and Jonas, love won out. Now Llew faces an uncertain one nation wants her to breed their future army, and the other wants her dead. Her Healing talent also means she is feared – and the child she carries makes her a target.
Jonas has returned to his people, but he is torn. The woman he loves is being kept away from him, his superiors want him to carry on his bloodline with an appropriate mate, and he's being expected to fit back into a role he no longer wants. He is meant to be a hero, but the only champion he wants to be is Llew's and their child – a child who might change everything.
But for their enemy to regain his powers, Llew's child must die; and in order to retain them, every Aenuk must be destroyed.
In Warrior's Touch, loyalties will be tested, lives torn apart and magics rejoined.

Deb E. Howell

Deb E could never write a *short* story for English class assignments. She took up writing stories as a hobby in high school, often sharing these with her friends at lunch time, but pushed fiction to the side for the sake of a few serious years of science writing for under- and post-graduate study in Zoology. Then it was time to adult and get paying work. Eventually, she landed a job that didn't occupy her mind fully enough, and soon pen joined paper and a fantasy novel had begun which, after several false starts and some shaping and moulding, turned into Healer's Touch.

Deb lives near Dunedin, New Zealand with her family and a menagerie of pets.

Just putting this here as a wee Goodreads Notice Board for WARRIOR'S TOUCH.

Release date set for 2nd September 2018! Counting down!

04 July 2018: We have a cover. The paperback is currently in the process of having a proof copy printed. If all goes well, then we will push the little red button that starts the release process and the countdown will truly be on. Keep watching my spaces (Facebook, Twitter, website...)

13 October 2016: After a crazy year of moving house and welcoming a new baby, WT has finally been returned to my editor for second round of edits.

29 June 2015: Well, that read-through was eye-opening. Some small errors to fix. And a couple of bigger things (a Scrivener/Touch Screen error that saw an entire scene in the wrong spot, and an editing error that saw an old paragraph still in the story, even though it's irrelevant now). Time to correct...

11 January 2015: Wonderfully exciting to see interest in WARRIOR'S TOUCH steadily climbing. Thanks to everyone who has let me know they're looking forward to it, one way or another. Won't be too long before final edits start. I'll keep you posted!

23 November 2014: Expected Release: Northern Spring/Southern Autumn 2015.

30 October 2014: Contract was signed a few weeks ago. And now Healer's Touch's cover artist, Matt Donnici is on board for WT's cover.

29 July 2014: WT is definitely being read by Kristell Ink.

20 July 2014: For those uber keen, I have made the first 5 chapters available via my Wattpad profile: http://www.wattpad.com/story/9840974-...

... but, that'll still leave you waiting for the rest of the book. So, it's up to you if you want to read that... (plus, it's not been vetted by my editor, though it has been read by Beta Readers)

20 June 2014: For those interested, I have popped a "How I did it(ish)" blog post up on my website: HERE. It may or may not be interesting.

18 June 2014: At this stage, I have no clue of publication date. I apologise.

12 June 2014: WT shared with Kristell Ink. This is the first stage toward final publication. If they like it, then the real work will begin.

24 May 2014: It is currently in the hands of my Beta Readers. Hopefully more pleasure than chore... we shall see (nervous grimace).
Have had some promising comments from one reader regarding the early chapters.

Let me lay it out in a check list.
Bad guys? = tick
Bad gals? = yup
Original magic system = oh yeah!
Page turner? = check, check
Do I want to read a sequel = big freaking Yes

So what did I enjoy most about Warrior’s Touch? I gotta say it was the baddies. WT is rich with delicious bad guys – AND gals. Now, when I say ‘bad guys’ I’m not talking about your comic book style evil villain, lives on a skull-shaped island, wants to death ray the earth because of ‘reasons’.

I’m talking about people you lurve to hate.

People whose agenda conflicts with the goals of our beloved main characters: Llew and Jonas.
I don’t want to spoil who the baddies are, because that’s a great twist in itself, but there's more than one, both male and female, and they’re people you want to see defeated because Howell makes you CARE.
She makes you believe that these fictional constructs are real people people suffering from and enduring tested loyalties, jealousy, love, and what’s more they have families to protect.

This is the power of Howell’s writing. I get emotional about these characters, I cheer the goodies, I boo the baddies.

Now look, slightly controversial theory I’m going to share, but am I the only one who considers Llew’s BFF Anya as a baddie?
Confession time, I hate her. Literally. HATE. Sure she appears as sweet as apple pie, and as naive as baby kitten, but c’mon! Every freaking time she shows up she drops and absolute bombshell in Llew’s lap and then skips off back to her privileged perfect life.
Ack!
I want her to die in a painful way - fingers-crossed for book Three: Magician's Touch.

This is a truncated version of a review written for Scoop Books http://books.scoop.co.nz . I received a copy from the author in return for an honest review.

I totally enjoyed Warrior’s Touch. I really enjoyed the main characters of Jonas and Llew – actually, I connected with Jonas more than Llew. Llew is small and bossy, but I found Jonas, despite his warrior-like personality surprisingly sympathetic. It’s always a pleasure to connect with a character and it’s even more fun when I get a favourite!
I really enjoyed the lack of quasi-medieval pageantry; Llew and Jonas were refreshingly working class and I particularly liked the wild-west tone. I found Warrior’s Touch to be a refreshing change from common fantasy tropes. It’s fast-paced and entertaining read.
I really hope Jonas and Llew find their happy ending in Magician’s Touch!

Warrior’s Touch by Deb E Howell

Warrior’s Touch by Deb E Howell (sequel to Healer's Touch), is an escape into the life of Llew, an Aenuk with incredible healing powers. Held hostage away from her own ‘Romeo’, Jonas a Karen warrior, Llew uses her wit and her love to save their unborn child from a power thirsty immortal. Woven throughout the novel is the heartache of inherited  misery and mistrust in a world where doing the right thing can get you killed, and so can doing the wrong thing.

Dropped into the middle of a never ending battle between the Kara and the Aenuk, Deb E. Howell builds a gritty world of magic and mayhem. You can almost taste the dust and smell the sweat as Llew and Jonas fight for each other and a world they can only imagine.

Second book, not end of story

The only thing about this book that disappointed me was that it wasn't the end of the story. And the next book isn't published yet!

With Aris regaining his immortal powers in the most horrifying way, our heroes are left struggling to regain their ability to do anything. They are increasingly dependent on bad guy Braph. Although this book ends on a somewhat higher note, it seems as if taking down Braph will be the worst challenge of all.
