“I fear not the dark ... but what may lurk within it”
From the author of the bestselling series, Encounters in the Woods and What Lurks Beyond, comes a new series focused exclusively on the creepy, scary, and dangerous things that lurk in the deep forests. Ethan Hayes has been collecting firsthand encounters from people all over the world for years and in Fear in the Forest, he has saved some of his best stories for the pages ahead. From terrifying face to face encounters with Bigfoot and Sasquatch, to horrifying instances of being stalked by a Wendigo and Black Eyed Children; Ethan takes you on a bone chilling journey that will have you keeping the light on a night.
Some stories were believable. Some stories not so much. The first one about a bigfoot is pretty believable. The 3rd story from the guy with 5 kids is a bit of a schmuck. He camps where he shouldn't, he leaves his wife alone with 5 kids while he "just has to get away from his high pressure job, and seems like an overall putz. The other unbelievable story was about the guy who inherited a rustic cabin in Colorado. When I think of rustic I think of a 1 room cabin, but this one seemed to have several rooms and an upstairs. I don't think his idea of rustic and mine are the same. His whole story about the Grim Reaper figure just seemed like it was taken right out of a book. At least the stories are written well and are entertaining.
This series of books is about strange things, sometimes dangerous things, that people have run into while hiking through a forest or camping in one. They do help one to figure out just how some cryptids behave and the more stories of the same type of cryptid and behavior makes it possible to get an idea of just what these people are running into.
The first story involves a Sasquatch involves a simple tossing of objects at between the person and the Sasquatch. This fits a strong pattern for the Sasquatch and Bigfoot cryptids in tossing objects that are lying around at a person.
The second story involves what may be a Reptilian alien with some kind of cloaking device. There's a story about a cabin that may have a portal to hell (probably some other dimension) in it. A story shows a very common thing and that is the feeling of being watched. This theme runs through many events in various books, not just these.
A story involves shadow beings which is another common cryptid although the story involves an offering of tobacco and alcohol which seems to have an effect.
One story seems to involve a skinwalker, very thin, about ten feet high. There's a story about a very unusual cryptids with long talons, pointed ears, tall and with odd eyes which roughly f its the description of a mothman.
Then there's a story involving a typical terrible smell and something, maybe a Bigfoot, which is eight feet tall. This is also a very rare case where the viewer is armed but the effect is minimal. Another Bigfoot story involves the knocking sound that is made when the cryptid hits a tree, probably with a large branch.
That's another thing that occurs in many of the stories involving a Bigfoot. Bad smell, knocking sounds, sometimes grunting or screaming. Another possible Bigfoot story involves the creature being in a tree which again seems a common theme.
One story involves telepathy with something.
As usual in this type of book the stories are all interesting.
A great start to a new series. I loved his Encounters in the Woods and What Lurks Beyond series. This has a number of creepy encounters with unusual cryptids, creatures and paranormal phenomena. I'm looking forward to more books in this series and his next one Into the Darkness. Following this author now.
i found Ethan Hayes’ books entertaining, chilling and creepy. These stories really make you wonder what lurks out there. It also makes you think twice when out in the great outdoors.
Well, I went into this read with low expectations and was still disappointed. Even a random Reddit thread about spooky encounters in the woods is better than that.
