About the author

K.P. Purnachandra Tejaswi was a prominent Kannada writer, novelist, photographer, ornithologist, publisher, painter and environmentalist. He made a great impression in the "Navya" period of Kannada literature and and inaugurated the bandaya sahitya.

Tejaswi was born on September 8, 1938. His father is the famous poet, Rashtrakavi Kuvempu. He completed his education in Mysore. Tejaswi has written in almost all forms of literature including poems, short stories, novels, travel literature, plays and science fiction. He has translated several English books to Kannada. His famous translations include the series on Kenneth Anderson's hunting expeditions and Henri Charrière's Papillon.

He has won several awards for his contribution to literature such as the Rajyotsava and Kannada Sahitya Academy awards.

ನಾನು 2-3 ಬಾರಿ ಓದಿದ ಕೆಲವೇ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳಲ್ಲಿ "ಮಹಾಪಲಾಯನ" ಕೂಡ ಒಂದು. ತೇಜಸ್ವಿಯವರ ಬರಹಗಳು ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಆವರಿಸಿದ್ದು ಮಹಾಪಲಾಯನ ಮತ್ತು ಪರಿಸರದ ಕತೆ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳಿಂದ.

ಯಾರಾದರೂ ಯಾವ ಪುಸ್ತಕದಿಂದ ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಓದಬೇಕೆಂದು ಕೇಳಿದಾಗಲೆಲ್ಲ ನಾನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದಿದ್ದು ಈ ಎರಡೂ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳನ್ನೇ. ಈಗ ಈ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಮಿಲೇನಿಯಂ ಸೀರೀಸ್ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳು ಸೇರ್ಪಡೆಗೊಂಡವು.

ಎಷ್ಟೊಂದು ವಿಷಯಗಳು ಅಡಕವಾಗಿವೆ ಈ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳಲ್ಲಿ.
ವಿಭಿನ್ನ ಜನರು, ದೇಶಗಳು ,ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿ- ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯಗಳು, ಪ್ರಾಣಿ-ಪಕ್ಷಿಗಳು, ಮರುಭೂಮಿ, ಹುಲ್ಲುಗಾವಲು, ಸಮುದ್ರ, ಕ್ಷಾಮ, ಬಿರುಗಾಳಿ, ಚಂಡಮಾರುತ, ಚಂದ್ರಯಾನ, ಯುದ್ಧಗಳು:
ಅವುಗಳ ಇತಿಹಾಸ ಮತ್ತು ಅವುಗಳಿಂದ ಉಂಟಾದ ಪರಿಣಾಮಗಳು, ಗುಪ್ತಚರರು, ಸಾಹಸಿಗಳು, ಸಹೃದಯರು, ಹೃದಯಹೀನರು, ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳು.. ಹೀಗೆ ಪಟ್ಟಿ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಲೇ ಇರಬಹುದು.

ಇನ್ನಾ ಬರವಣಿಗೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಏನು ಹೇಳುವುದು! ತೇಜಸ್ವಿಯವರ ಬರಹಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಗೊತ್ತಿರುವಂತದ್ದೇ. ನಾವು ತುಂಬಾ ಇಷ್ಟಪಟ್ಟು ತಿನ್ನುವ ತಿಂಡಿಯ ಹಾಗೆ. ಇಷ್ಟಪಡುವ ತಿಂಡಿ ಬೇಜಾರಾದರೂ ಅವರ ಬರಹಗಳು ಎಂದಿಗೂ ಬೇಸರವೆನಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಓದುತ್ತಲೇ ಇರಬೇಕೆನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

1998-99ರಲ್ಲಿ ಈಗಿನಂತೆ ಕೈ ಅಂಚಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲ ವಿಷಯಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸುವುದು ಕಷ್ಟ ಸಾಧ್ಯವೇ ಸರಿ. ಆದರೆ ತೇಜಸ್ವಿಯವರು ವಿಷಯಗಳನ್ನೆಲ್ಲ ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸಿ, ಅವು ಕನ್ನಡದವೇ ಅನಿಸುವಷ್ಟರ ಮಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಅನುವಾದಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ನಿಜಕ್ಕೂ ಅದೃಷ್ಟವೇ ಸರಿ ಈ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳು ನಮಗೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿದ್ದು.

ಹೈಸ್ಕೂಲ್ ವರೆಗಿನ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಅಗತ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಇಂಥ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳು ಪಠ್ಯವಾದರೆ ಕನ್ನಡದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಆಸಕ್ತಿ ಉಂಟಾಗುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಅನುಮಾನವಿಲ್ಲ.

ಓದಬೇಕಾದ ಮತ್ತು ಓದಿಸಬೇಕಾದ ಉತ್ತಮ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳು. ❤️❤️

Wonderful set of books for anyone to read. In the age of "no internet", it was difficult to collect the info and KPP had done a wonderful job in presenting these to readers.
