What's her face.. Ashley, that's her name. The heroine. She's overly sensitive and doesn't think very rationally for a lawyer. And her "Oh Stefano!' shit got a little annoying. I felt a little bit of Steel Magnolias coming out.
The romance bugged me. While it's not insta-love, it happens so quickly and without substance, that it might as well be.
The story could have been really good. I liked the plot, though I felt it was really predictable the way Mona Risk wrote it. I feel like it could have been a great book, but it just fell flat. It felt rushed, the characters weren't developed, and the predictability made it difficult to read without feeling like I was waiting.
I definitely didn't enjoy this one as much as the previous book I read by the same author. Since that one was free and this one was only 99 cents, I feel like it balances out.
I only read this for a challenge and all I have to say is Holy Crap this is a dumb book! But it took place in Greece. Don't read it...it will make you dumber. 1 star.
I really can't complain about this book. It was nice. It just didn't wow me. But, it was a pleasant romance, reminiscent of early harlequin days with "fade-to-black" love scenes and overly dramatic dialogue. But, it wasn't a bad way to spend a couple of hours.
I will say that it definitely made me envious of the heroine for getting to see Greece. I really want to make it there myself one of these days.
Will the heavens align for the grandchildren of thwarted lovers? Attorney Ashley Sheppard comes to Greece to fulfill the wishes of her ailing grandfather. He wants her to do everything she can to save the Pink Villa, a house he jointly owned with his lost love.
Playboy Stephano wants to destroy the crumbling villa where his late grandmother lived. For so many years, it brought her heartache. He wishes to build a resort on the property.
But first, he wants to check out the opposition before he faces her in court. Using his middle names, he arranges an introduction and convinces her to take a sunset ride on his yacht.
Their physical attraction is strong. He aims to seduce her, and Ashley is in vacation-mode enough to let herself be seduced. The next morning when she realizes she’s slept with the enemy, she’s ready to shred Stephano like lamb and serve him up with mint jelly.
One feature I liked best about this character-driven story was the authenticity of the Greek setting, the food, and the culture. It felt familiar to me because of the Mary Stewart suspense novels I’d read in my late teens were also set on Greek isles. So reading this story was like going on vacation at a favorite spot. Risk is making quite a name for herself in the international romance field.
Ashley goes to Greece to work on a house her grandfather bought for his love when he was a teenager. She is a lawyer and his lover's family want to demolish the house so they can build a hotel. She meets Stefano and is instantly caught off guard by his good looks and charm.
Stefano is a rich playboy who is not interested in a relationship until he sees Ashley coming from his grandmother's old house. He his instantly intrigued by this red headed girl.
Ashley has no idea who he is and when they have there interlude she is caught off guard the next day. While they are battling in court he is trying to compromise however due to her hurt and pride she refuses.
This story is about long lost love that didn't turn out for the lovers. They however turned it around for their grandchildren by setting them up. They wanted their families to end up together and what better way then setting up their grandchildren.
I thought this story was emotional and brilliant. I was happy to see a great ending to a sad beginning...
When Ashley, a lawyer from the States, arrives in Greece to dispute a claim over her grandfather’s cottage, she doesn’t expect to like the opposition. Stefano, part owner of the house, wants to raze the place and build a resort. Years ago, her grandfather loved a woman whose family married her off to another man. For ages, they blamed each other so that bitter blood rests between their descendants. Ashley and Stefano are still fighting this battle, and each one will do anything to win. However, when they’re alone, Ashley finds herself falling into Stefano’s arms. Can this dashing man possibly be the perfect Greek match for her? This could have been really good with just a little editing. Not proofreading, but actual editing. Or maybe what I perceive as a continuity error was just the characters being annoying. And what was the deal with the beach at the beginning? She's sitting on a topless beach, won't remove her hand from her chest and she can't figure out why people are staring at her? And then we find a little later that she has apparently been sitting there for hours? If you're that uncomfortable, just get up and leave.
Greek God meets sexy lawyer in this steamy love story set in one of my favourite places of all times...the Greek island of Mykonos.
This tale of Grandparents who suffer from unrequited love has coloured the lives of their descendents Ashley and Stefano. It's up to the two young people to break the cycle and they do...almost as soon as they see each other for the first time. It's a lovely read and Mona is at her best in this wonderful tale.
I got this as a freebie awhile ago and found it on the kindle today and read it. I was kind of bored. It was a good premise, but it just lacked something. The author used way too many flowery descriptions and it came across a bit cheesy. I did like that any Greek spoken was translated easily and it flowed, I hate having to translate things in a book.
Today was a dreary rainy day, but reading this felt like I was in the middle of sun-drenched Greece, enjoying beautiful scenery and delicious food and a wonderful romance. In short: a great mini-vacation. :)
I'm not a huge reader of category romance and this is definitely a category romance. It has a Harlequin feel, especially with the foreign locale. It was a quick and enjoyable read. This review will appear on spunkybean.com on July 9, 2012.
The start of this book was strong for me but it kind of got muddled about half way through when it seemed to lose a bit of steam. I didn't quite make it all the way through the book because of that loss of steam.
Well, I had to read this book since I'm planning a trip to Greece in 2014. Finished this book in 1.5 hours. A typical romance novel. This makes me even more eager to visit Greece, especially how the islands are described in this book.
I could get behind the premise and I love me some hot Greek men, but there were just way too many times where I rolled my eyes and said "Oh Puh-leez!". WAY too many. Characters were flat, unbelievable, and Ashley was just plain annoying.
While I've never been interested in Greek culture, this book was fun and does show at least some culture, particularly in the language. The story itself was a decent, basic love story.
Okay, so it's all about the matchmaking. A sweet story. Family enemies, instant lovers, yada yada yada!!! Steamy sex scenes, but the story was good without that part.
