Rate this book
Are all firemen as hot as my neighbor?
I’m dying to see that muscular body.
Too bad he’s such a competitive, grumpy jerk.

After disaster flips my life upside down, it’s the hottie next door to the rescue.
He’s not as arrogant and cold-hearted as I thought.

He has me baring my all in more than one way.
That sparked flame might just ignite both our passion.

If you can overlook the grammatical issues, it's a decent book. A little corny, but still cute. I enjoyed the main characters and how raw they could be with one another. I know they both had rough childhoods with their rough parents but both chose to do jobs to help others and not let their childhoods hold them back. They were cute together. The "grump/enemies to lovers" bit was very shortlived but seeing as this book is under 100 pages it makes sense. It was a decent read.

I won this book from a Goodreads giveaway. All of the statements above are my own true opinions after fully reading this book.

Learning to Listen with the Heart

When Crystal Davenport left North Carolina to accept a position as social worker in Mission Valley area of San Diego, the young college graduate, a curvy brunette with magnetizing doe eyes, was determined to take control of her life by making good choices. She wanted to use her own life’s lessons to help others lacking agency in their lives.

After she earned a degree in social work she hoped to allow the past traumas in her life to empower her to embrace the struggles of others with compassion and support. Growing up in family in crisis—a dad with a terminal cancer diagnosis and a mom whose inability to cope with her own unhappiness prevented her from offering love to her own daughter, Crystal.

As a result, without the guidance of a stable, loving adult, Crystal had made bad choices in her relationships with men—especially older men, seeking an adult who would love, heal, and affirm her. But, now with maturity and experience, Crystal has come to realize that no one could heal Crystal’s hurts except for herself. So, with personal commitment to grow stronger from past trials, she used her life experiences to allow her to support and assist the clients at the San Diego social services office to counsel troubled adolescents, helping to gain the emotional and social strength to move past their traumas.

And, with her move to California, like many others in her profession, Crystal’s personal challenge is to find affordable housing that doesn’t require her to drive miles to work. But she is lucky. She has located affordable housing an easy drive from her work. So now, settled at work, it is time to settle into her apartment community, eager to connect with others—to make friends. But unfortunately, she chose the wrong day or the wrong individual to reach out to in friendship. Cole Daniels a firefighter at a local station is tired. The previous day at a fire his lungs filled with smoke, so now his lungs burn with every breath, and he’s just tired. He wants to order something to eat, shower and relax.

But unfortunately, his new neighbor, a pretty woman with curves, dark hair and dark eyes has chosen now to get friendly. But he’s prickly—he doesn’t want to be friendly. But it seems that his new neighbor with her curves, big brown eyes and bubbling personality isn’t clued into reading body language, because his scowling stare and surly grunts are certainly communicating a desire to be left alone.

Giselle Harper spins a tight tale of two strangers learning to communicate and connect despite the barriers that life has built around their hearts. And, as connections slowly grow between the two bruised individuals, connections and healing begins. I received an ARC through Booksprout, but purchased a copy for my "read again" library.

Spice: 🌶️ 🌶️
POV: Dual
Ending: HEA

MMC: Captain Cole Daniels
FMC: Crystal Davenport

Do I Recommend: Yes

Cole is a grumpy fireman whose stern upbringing has shaped his outlook on life. He doesn’t converse with people unless it was required and wood work was his second love. Crystal is small town country girl running away from a toxic past starting over in a big city where she doesn’t know anyone. She has a cheery attitude and tries to make the most of all situations.

Cole and Crystal are neighbors in an apartment complex. Cole tries his best to avoid her, but she constantly stops to talk to him whenever she sees him. Crystal is not a fan of Cole’s rude behavior and is surprised when he offers her his place to wait inside when she accidentally locks herself out of her apartment. This becomes the truce in their awkward run ins.

Crystal accidentally sets her apartment on fire by knocking over a candle in a drowsy exhausted state from a long day at work. Cole comes to her rescue and saves her after she passes out from smoke inhalation in her apartment. With the extensive damage to her apartment she is now homeless and will be for months until the renovations are complete. Cole has an extra bedroom in his apartment and offers Crystal a place to stay until she can move back into her apartment.

This begins a budding friendship.

grumpy/sunshine, enemies to lovers ?, fireman, forced proximity, slow burn but it's a short book so not really

I was wondering why this book seemed like it was moving fast, it's less than 100 pages. We have Cole and Crystal (two names starting with the same letter, don't love it for a book when it's not really a thing to move the plot forward) who end up having to live together because Crystal almost burns down her apartment. This is supposedly enemies to lovers but really Crystal is just super positive while Cole is a bit more introverted so it's not really hate but more like annoyance.
The male lead ends up getting really soft and sappy towards the last chunk of the book so it just wasn't for me unfortunately.

Honestly I would be more forgiving on the pacing of the book if it was all about the smut then. I can appreciate books that don't try to hide it! But the love scenes here came at like the 80% mark and was kinda choppy. The sentences was a lot of telling vs showing so it wasn't really even worth it. Plus there's quite a few sentences that swapped point of view, as if the author wrote it in third person than swapped to first person and missed a few things in editing.

Not terrible and a quick fluffy read but wasn't what I was looking for.

Giselle Harper did a fabulous job with Grumpy Fireman Next Door. The plot was interesting, fun and an attention getter. I easily read through this book in one sitting never once losing focus. Giselle brought to life a couple of characters that were very likable and whom I felt a connection with. My heart hurt for both Cole and Crystal because of the weight they carried with them from their past. They had a chemistry between them that was just waiting for the right moment to explode. There were plenty of laughs to be had in this book which only helped to make this an even better read. Who doesn't like to laugh, right?

Cole is a fireman who doesn't have time for love. After being burnt pretty bad by his ex girlfriend he now likes to fly solo. Crystal is a children's social worker who just traveled across the the country to run away from a bad situation. She is upbeat and he is a grump, but somehow they begin to share a genuine connection. When disaster turns Crystal's life upside down she is lucky her sexy fireman neighbor decides to be her knight and shining armor.

Crystal and Cole are neighbors that don't get along. Cole tries to avoid her when he sees her, but she always wants to talk to him. However, whenever Crystal needs a helping hand Cole is there to offer assistance to her. After a long workday she tries to relax and ends up knocking over a lit candle which sets her apartment on fire. Cole smells the smoke and immediately rushes in to save her. He even offers her a place to crash while hers is being repaired. Its not long before friendship turns into something more. Can this grow into something more?

This is a great story that will captivate you from beginning to end. This is a well written and very entertaining story. Its a book that any book lover would enjoy.

I enjoyed this story with all of the characters within. The main two characters were Crystal and Cole.

Crystal has move to a new city to get a way from her old life. While moving in she meets her next door neighbor. He very grumpy with her when she tries to say hello and talk to him. From then on when she see him she tries to talk to him.

Cole is a firefighter. While returning home he meets the next door neighbor that is moving in. He has had a bad day and doesn't want to talk to her.  So he is a little grumpy and just wants to eat and relax for the rest of the day. But when it the next day he decides that he should have been nicer to the woman.

This was a fun story to read. It had action, suspense and drama throughout. It had a few giggles within.

I received a complimentary copy via Booksprout. This is my honest unbiased opinions.

Crystal and Cole's Story . . .

Crystal and Cole did not seem to get along very well. But when her she fell asleep with a lighted candle burning, she woke to the smoke alarm and an apartment filled with smoke. Fortunately her firefighter neighbor smelled it and was there to rescue her. And when she was released from the hospital he offered to share his home with her until her apartment could be repaired from the damage. Proximity leads to temptation and the two of them forgot their differences as they allowed their chemistry to sizzle. Was this just a short-term fling? Or were they beginning to fall in love?

I can totally see where he was coming from she was a very happy perky person. She couldn't have asked for a better neighbor however. What a way she grew up I couldn't imagine how she did it. I would love to see what's next for them.

Good book

The only problem I had with it was half of each chapter was missing from each chapter in the book. But, the characters were lovely and the story was heartwarming and well written.
