Earth is a fiery pile of rubble. Amy, a woman left to fend for herself on the volatile planet, seeks to feed a pitiful group of women and children, misfits left to perish because of various and devious reasons. Amy was diagnosed with cancer the year her world fell apart and not given a shuttle pass to the new planet, Ulsy. That she is still alive is all but a mystery to her. When strange beings land on Earth's surface, Amy presumes the armored, hideous creatures are looming death. Dasks is a full-blooded Castian warrior from Dargon. He and his warrior mate have come to Earth seeking human females to bond with. A male of almost four hundred years old, he can't believe how captivating his new human female, Amy, is. But Dasks' race can sense deception and lies—he can smell fear. Amy is keeping a secret from him. When a Castian mates, he mates for life. If Amy dies, so will Dasks. Dasks must decide if he can live without her—because if they mate he will surely die with her.

Born and raised in Ontario, C. L. Scholey developed her passion for writing through her love of reading books as a child. Her first book was contracted in Oct 2009 the very same month her first grand son was born. C. L. Scholey still lives in Ontario, in a rural community with her husband and daughter.

From the author:
Hello, I'm Connie! Now that we've met how about I tell you a little about me? I love to write, it's like having a super power.

I was born and raised in Ontario...yes I'm Canadian, no I don't live in an igloo, no I've never pet a polar bear, but I have run into a few black bears, seen wolves, moose, coyotes and I think there's a hundred pound squirrel in my attic.

I spend as much time as I can get away with looking for rocks in Bancroft. When I'm not in Bancroft I live in a small town, so people know me when they see me. Some ask me what I'm working on--some even ask me in a regular voice not a whisper.

I get bored easily, it's why one day I'll be working on assassins, the next Sci-fi, then Vikings, then vampires, then planning world domination--wait, what?

Moving on. I love animals and we have a dog, 120p mastiff. He's great with the kids and careful around them, but he'd run me over for a piece of bologna. Otherwise he loves us.

If you want to get to know me better join me on FB or twitter. Right now I need to change back into a mom, it's my best super power.

Good story but...
Reading the book second time made me maybe pay attention more to the characters and their development/ story.
Amy was surviving with other women, sick - cancer- when Dask found her.
Dask wanted to mate her but she kept him at arms length all the time due to her sickness.
What I didn't like the most about the story was Cobra's involvement and insistence to impregnate Amy even though he was mated.
Here is the moment when CL Scholey killed the story for me and my admiration to Cobra.
Castians mate for life and they do not cheat so impregnating would be in my books cheating. A contradiction who was not well handled and justified in the book. I don't mind to read about a cheating character but when mating is an absolute and for life that plot line just didn't make sense to me.
A good story none the less with an exciting world and sweet characters.

I'm loving this New World series. Great follow-up to Shield.

Those Castians are some pretty sexy virgins. They can envelop me in their armor any time...

Ok so here is the thing, the editing in these books drives me nuts, even to the point I end up going back a few pages to see if I missed anything so I can see you saying 4 stars? WTF? The bottom line is the characters are great, the story keeps me well distracted and I need to know what happens next so I just keep reading them whenever a break is needed from angst and heartbreak.

So really I can only complain about the editing in the fact that it drags me out of the story but it isn't enough to ruin it.

A very fast paced angst sci fi romance.

I still think it should be a longer book. There is so much going on. The beginnings start out great written like it’s going to be a longer novel. With lots of detail and character build up. Somewhere in the middle it turns into a draft. Very fast paced and somewhat glossing over the story. A good editor should be able to help flesh out the rest of the story properly.

Having said that, it’s a very imaginative and creative spin on alien romance. I would really like for the author to work on her craft because this series could be stellar if the writing was helped along a bit.

I’m on to book 3. I am very eager to see more of this world and author.

It is not amusing to see that the Earth is being destroyed by earthquakes, tsunamis and meteorites. What is amusing is that the women who are kidnapped or lost on "Ulsy" the new planet that shuttles are taking women to are being fought over by 400 year old virgin armored men who have no clue what women are as they've never seen one. Of course as their scent triggers their ancient memories and with a little prompting from the women who are happy to escape death on Earth you get a HEA out of an alien abduction book. Good points - they are totally in tune with their emotions and want to protect them. Amy was dying of breast cancer and when she and 7 other women and 3 children who were previously overlooked by the shuttle pilots are "rescued" by the aliens a new adventure begins for them all.

Am really pleased that the author chose to move the story on like this, though I'm a little surprised that Cobra got paired up in this one and so likely won't get his own book. In this installment a group of females from a dying earth are rescued by the arriving Castians, along with some animals. We get to see more of the insidious Tonans, their natures and culture still shrouded in a little mystery, though hopefully not for long - along with the mention of a potential traitor in the Castian midst. It did get sorta predictable, with it fairly easy to guess that the female leads cancer would end up cured if they mated.

Short and sweet how I can best describe this novella series so far, will read on and see if the trend continues.

you cannot take these books seriously, I'm sure the author meant them to be light and out there. it's totally different to what I normally read and I'm enjoying the lighter side of aliens and I have burst out laughing on more than one occasion with a description or two.
I think Matthew does a great job with his voice and describing some of the thoughts and scenes. it's also fun to have the heroine in charge...in a roundabout way...( no spoilers)
so again much the same but a different outline. you just have to laugh and enjoy the story..don't get deep or gritty , you won't like it.

So.... I do not know what to feel about this book. Amy is okay and Dasks is okay as well. Amy annoyed me to no end. I understand why she felt the way she did however I just needed her to be honest in the beginning and just accepted the fact that her and Dasks were mates. I think a lot of the back and forth would have ended if it was not for her. I did not hare the book bu there is just something about it that was completely and utterly aggravating about.

The ending killed the book for me. All resolutions happen in less than a few pages. There was filler that could have been removed to enhance how the story ended. To put it in perspective, Hallmark Movie endings have more meat.

The other thing that bothered me is when a Mated Castian Male offered to impregnate a non-mated female. Castians mate for life which makes this a huge issue!

Hopefully the third book will be significantly better.

Conceived?
Yes, conceived.
Eye roll... she was wrapped in the armor of his love (gag)...
She must be a princess because all of the sudden a big strong man comes into her life and all of her problems (including cancer!) are solved. I liked her better as a courageous starving survivor.

2.5 stars erotic scifi romance
Really the only thing that saves this is the shortness as it is the same as the first in learning differences but drags with her cancer and can they are can't they mate and risk killing him. No more story line other than that so mostly boring. There is a side story of her friend's boy child but that is solved in the time that I would have liked this to have been.

Overall: Amy is still stuck on the dying Earth because she has cancer and the people deemed that she wasn't fit and able to go to the new world. She now lives in a cave with three other women and three children and they have no food, but there is a men's camp not far from them that she plans on stealing from. At first everything goes ok, but she ends up getting caught, lucky for her Dasks comes and saves her. The next day Dasks and his warrior mate go to their cave and agree to help them out, but they have to go to their ship and Amy has to mate with Dasks. When they get there Cobra is upset because he only wanted females brought with them, but in the end he agrees as long as the boy's mother still lives. There is a bit of a battle that happens and Cobra is in for a really big surpise as are the rest of the group. The story evolves and leaves the door open for the next story.

Pros: I liked the dynamic between Dasks and Amy because he helped her get through her pain and she helped him to better understand what she needed. I also really like the description of the planet and how they had holograms of the animals and the huge butterflies.

Cons: My only problem with the story was it was like the first story in many ways and I felt like the reproduction of children and how they lost their women was just repative. I felt that they explained it in the first book, that I didn't need to be reminded of it in the second story.

Futuristic post apolcalyptic sci fi read featuring virgin aliens and Earth women who are found to be mate material for the Castian warriors. The aliens capture a group of women who have banded together in a cave on their dying planet (Earth) trying to survive when the alien beasts show up to capture them with the intent to mate and breed them. But Castians mate for life so if there's a reason the women were left behind to die would that speed up their own planet's demise?

Pure fantasy sci fi read that had its moments for me. I realize I'm in the minority as to my opinion that the characters were flat and the story line had multiple editorial issues but that's the beauty of reading. Each person can read the same book and get different things out of it. The biggie issues for me were the premise of virgin aliens. Seriously? The next would be Craig. Loved the character but not a fan of his situation and how it was addressed. Lastly. The Epilogue. Not a fan of that formula and how it was presented. Can't/won't comment any further anymore due to spoiler potential.

Overall I was in to this read until about the 50% part. At that point the storyline went into the fantasy slant that didn't work for me. Seriously didn't work. I mean ... no elevators? I would have at least have gone with hovercrafts....

This is the second book in the New World series. Now that Castians are aware that human woman are compatible and in need of protection, they are going back to earth to find any women left behind.

Amy was left on earth, despite her being young and of child bearing age because she was considered tainted goods. She is dying of breast cancer, therefore she was left behind to fend for herself. She lives in a cave with a few other women and children, and the fight to find food has become more difficult by the day.

Dasks finds Amy and immediately knows she is his. But as Amy learns about what it means to be a mate, she realizes she cannot in good conscience mate with Dasks because it would be a death sentence for him.

I really loved how this book ended.

Armor is the second book in the New World Series, and I have to say probably my favorite book so far.

There are few survivors left on Earth, and those that have managed to survive won't last long with food sources depleting, humans killing each other, and Mother Nature still taking over. Amy is one of those left behind from the shuttle because she wasn't deemed healthy enough due to her breast cancer. Along with her are a group of women and 3 children. Amy is the "leader" of the group since she is still strong enough to help feed the others.

Dasks is excited with the concept of going to Earth to find more human females to mate with. When he sees Amy he knows she will be his, but he can also sense lies and deception from her and is confused as to why she refuses to mate with him.

This story brought me to tears because I felt bad for Amy. All she wants to do is live her life and love Dasks, but to mate with him is to bring death knocking on his door sooner than he would without mating her.

I am happy to say this book, I felt, was better than the last book Shield. Whereas, the first book in the series left me wanting emotionally this book sucks you in to Amy's struggle to live and help those around her who are dependent upon her spunk, fortitude and generosity. Amy struggles with the devastating knowledge that she will die soon and there is nothing, absolutely nothing she can do to fight against the inevitable end. However, she does not just lay down and wait for it to come. She struggles to help those around her survive in a world that is falling apart. You feel her reach to find those little things in life that make it worth the living.

Without giving up any more information I must say I was happy I did not give up on this series and look forward to reading more. My one little criticism would be the ending. I wish Ms. Scholey added one more chapter so the ending would not seem so rushed.

Loved it! Amy is everything I love in a heroine - compassionate, intelligent, strong, willful, and though her spirit is just a teeny bit broken, she's the type of girl who will settle for no less than a true partner, not someone to jump in and *poof* make everything alright for her. It doesn't mean they can't help fix things, but I don't know, it's just different. It's not a strict knight in shining armor story here, it's so much more than that. Dasks is also strong, which helps because he needs a lot of perseverance to figure out Amy (some of my favorite parts are their points of miscommunication) and he has just the right amount of sweetness to suit Amy. A very sweet love story and I can't wait to read more of these!! I'm thoroughly addicted :)

Side note: I LOVED the story within a story with Craig and his mother.

Actually liked this romance. It was a really slow build and the reasons for it were valid and understandable. The end, however, was pretty lackluster and annoying because Dasks ignored Amy's desires and made a decision without her consent. It paid off of course. He saved her life but...still if it hadn't, it would mean both of their deaths and they should have decided that as a couple as it was firstly done. He should have tried harder to convince her it was worth the risk and only mated her after she agreed to take said risk. This way...it was kind of a cop out after such a great romance. Almost like to finish it off and be done with it. So I was disappointed. And she got pregnant at their first try. As if the novel couldn't finish without the female getting pregnant. Jesus.

I like this one for the most part except the h, though Scholey did make it so I warm up to her by the end. Still like the first one better.

Our H is a standard cookie cutting H of this series, which I don't mind, seeing as how wonderfully attentive and loving this world's H is. Our h is a bit hard for me as deception if a huge no no in my book, plus the fact that she is stringing him on unwittingly makes me not like her too much, despite her being strong willed and kind and I do understand her dilemma and desire to be loved and live each day to the fullest.

Plot and world building is the main attraction here for me and it is still very intriguing and fun to read.

All in all, enjoyed it.
