Dead hookers, crazy gunmen, and pissed-off drug lords. Butch Quick is having a really bad night.
Meet Butch Quick, a seven-foot tall, 300-pound Native American with a face like a leather football helmet. Butch is a repo man, bounty hunter, and nightclub bouncer, among other things. Times are tough, but he’s getting by okay. Or he was until now. See, Butch is having a really bad night. When he repossesses a vintage 1968 Mustang from a neighborhood troublemaker, Butch uncovers a dark secret that tangles him up with a local drug kingpin, the DA’s office, a foul-mouthed bird, dirty sex, ugly death—and a dangerous girl named Honey.
This edition contains the bonus story "Children of Filth".

When I read, I generally read for fun. It's not that I don't like to learn, but my job in IT requires that I learn new things all the time and when I'm ready to relax with a book, the last thing I want to do is use my brain. No problem here, Sex, Death & Honey requires no heaving thinking. It's like candy for the brain and calories be damned.
This is how the hero describes himself... "My name is Butch Quick, and I deal with Paradise Valley’s less savory residents for a living. I work for my Uncle Higheagle and his various enterprises. Depending on his current needs I am a nightclub bouncer, a repo man, a bail bond recovery agent, and pretty much any other job too dangerous or dirty for anyone else to do."
In Sex, Death & Honey it's a simple repo job on a 1968 Mustang convertible. However, we find out soon enough why the series is called The Misadventures of Butch Quick.
The writing here is direct and refreshing, very down to Earth. There's also a parrot, sorry...a macaw, with a very colorful vocabulary, used effectively in a comic relief role.
"Nothing says I'm doing something illegal, please arrest me quite like a giant Indian running with a birdcage under his arm."
Once again, I found myself outside of the Horror genre with this book, but I do enjoy a good crime novel on occasion, especially John Sandford's Prey series and James Lee Burke's Dave Robicheau novels. Both excellent series. Sex, Death & Honey isn't quite at that level, but it sure was a lot of fun.
If you'd like to sample Brian's writing and take a look at the seedy side of Paradise Valley before purchasing Sex, Death & Honey you can now get Big Trouble In Little Boots in both Kindle and ePub formats for FREE by visting the Genius Book Publishing website.
Sex, Death & Honey will be available on August 17, 2012 in print and ebook formats from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple ITunes, Kobo and wherever books are sold.
Why did I blitz through Brian Knight’s Sex, Death & Honey in one short sitting? ‘Cause the man can write one hell of a fast paced, kick-arse, compelling novel, that’s why. Doesn’t matter whether it’s dark and bloody, a young adult’s fantasy come true, or a crime thriller like SD&H. The guy has writing talent in spades.
But the number one reason why I loved this book? Characterizations. And what makes his characters so damned appealing? They are all flawed to hell. Now, I’m not suggesting there’s anything amiss with the writing, on the contrary. What I’m saying is that the people that populate the pages of this book are real.
Take Butch Quick, the protagonist. Sure, he’s huge, he’s strong, but he’s not the most attractive fellow, and also not the luckiest. In fact, I’ve never seen a character befall such unfortunate outcomes in a book before. And I love that. To me it breathes a sense of reality into the work. But his multiple professions: bounty hunter, bouncer and repo man also whisks me off to a fictional realm, one I hope never to encounter.
Apart from the characters themselves, the writing is excellent. I’ve been a fan of Brian’s from the get-go, and he is yet to disappoint. This recent foray into crime-thriller appears to be very fluid. And it suits him. From seedy back-alleys, to car chases, to shoot-outs with crooked cops and scumbags alike, Knight writes as if he’s lived the tale himself.
There’s humour, there’s action, there’s the sexy dame; it’s got it all. Only problem I had was I didn’t want the story to end.
If you haven’t read Knight’s work, I highly recommend you do so. Now.
If you have, I guarantee you won’t be disappointed with Sex, Death & Honey.
This version of Sex, Death & Honey is based on the novella published a few years back by Cargo Cult Press. The story has been expanded and brought up to date and is now a complete novel.
As the publisher of this novel, I don't want to say more about it than I am proud to have had the opportunity to work with Brian Knight on this project, and I think every crime/noir/mystery/hard-boiled reader, or even fans of just really good fiction, will like this novel. It's fun, it's fast paced, and if you're the kind of person who likes it when the hero suffers through some really bad situations, you'll love this book. But don't take my word for it. Read it for yourself.
With the perfect blend of quirky humor and page turning action Brian Knight tells the story of Butch Quick, the compelling main character, who accidentally discovers a body in the trunk, leading him into a whole lot of "misadventure". As Butch's character develops you want to feel for him, root for him, and fight right along with him. With his cynical attitude and unsung hero personality, Butch reminds me of one of my favorite fictional characters Harry Dresden created by Jim Butcher.
I love the way Knight weaves the back story on Butch into the adventure. This style gives depth to the character while the reader gets just enough info to keep wanting more. I also love how Knight mixes some real places in Butch's fictional world giving a real life feel to the story.
Overall this novel is super entertaining and has something for every adult reader. You won't be disappointed.
