More than 100 years have gone by since the Titanic sank. The perfect balance between a historical reference and a gripping novel, this book offers an accurate and up-to-date account of every aspect of the Titanic saga, from its inception and construction to its more recent discovery and its impact on society and culture. The author also examines what has changed since Titanic was built and speaks to the question of whether a similar disaster could ever happen again. Complete with photos and web links, this book is written in an informal style that is appropriate for anyone interested in the subject - even young readers.
When a person who isn't a professional author writes a book because they are passionate about a topic, it usually goes one of two ways: Either it is a badly written and full of grammatical errors and repetitions or you can feel the authors passion in every sentence and it is a great read. This definitely belongs in the second category. I especially liked the part about the consequences of Titanics disaster and how it could have been avoided. Would highly recommend.
I have read many books & saw a couple of movies on this. I loved how it was laid out. The additional resources that were clickable made this book the total package.
This is a very interesting and in-depth book. I have read numerous books on the Titanic, and I must say this is one of my favorites. The author shows compassion for both the victims and the survivors of this terrible tragedy. If you enjoy reading about historical events and how they changed the world for us today, I highly recommend this book. Well done, Matthew Vollbrecht.
Factual references mixed with personal opinions. The ending felt rushed, but overall the book holds you're attention. The links at the end, to look up those on board, was a respectful inclusion.
A reasonably complete story of the sinking of the Titanic and its aftermath. Quite interesting and reading like a suspense story. The most interesting chapter for me is ch. 10 where the author investigates (and mostly disqualifies) the various theories about what could have prevented the disaster. This book re- awakened my interest in this historical drama.
I happened to stumble upon this iBook when I did a search for "titanic" on iTunes and I read it on my iPhone. I was so impressed; it was so easy to read. Matthew Bollbrech did such a wonderful job of putting so much information from various sources altogether in one quite short eBook. His own passion for this subject certainly shined through. I've always had a bit of a fascination for the story of the Titanic myself and though I'm now reading another title about the subject (A Night to Remember), this book taught me quite a bit that I may never have found out about as some of the readings on the subject are a bit heavy.
This was a lot more personal than the previous Titanic book I read. It felt a little more 'dramatized' than factual, though the author has obviously done his research.
Felt that it could have done with some good editing. There were a lot of blocks of text that could've been broken up into paragraphs and several places where the wrong words were used.
Was an interesting look into Titanic and I found it interesting to look at how it affected modern cruises and regulations on the water.
