Superintendent Robert Bone must work his way through a maze of deceptions, delusions, and secrets long past, or else groom-to-be and rock star Ken Cryer will be dead before he can say "I do".
AKA Elizabeth Eyre, Susannah Stacey is the pseudonym of the couple of writers Jill Staynes [1927-] and Margaret Storey [1926-]. Jill Staynes writes her own novels as well as writing under the name of Elizabeth Eyre and Susannah Stacey with Margaret Storey. They were pupils at the same school where they invented bizarre characters and exchanged serial episodes about them. Their first book together. at the age of fifteen, was called 'Bungho, or why we went to Aleppo'. It was not offered for publication. They have both written stories for children, and together created the highly praised Superintendent Bone modern detective novels as well as this series of Italian Renaissance whodunnits.
Love Robert Bone and his team. I'm quite pleased that the person who died was who they were, and I didn't figure out who'd done the deed - although maybe I should have. Thoroughly enjoyable read, just like the rest of the series.
I sure wish there were more in this series. There's always a murder, or two, mayhem, intelligence, interactions between the characters, and a touch or more of humor.
Picked this up at a used book store because it sounded interesting. I have to say it started slow. I almost put it down without finishing. I was stuck in the DC airport for several hours with all my other books in my checked in luggage. So I plodded through the beginning. I'm now about 2/3 through, and need to find out who did it!
