Atsushi Ōkubo ( 大久保篤), also romanized as Atsushi Ohkubo, is a Japanese manga author and fantasy artist known for his work on the manga series Soul Eater, which has been adapted into an anime. Okubo worked as an assistant under Rando Ayamine, on the manga series Get Backers. He also created artwork for various cards for the Lord of Vermillion game.

Atsushi Ōkubo was not a model student and was more attracted to drawing than to learning. At the age of 20, after finishing studies at a manga school where he met Rando Ayamine, the author of Get Backers, he became Rando Ayamine's assistant for two years. Finally, he won a competition at Square Enix's Gangan magazine with his first manga series B.Ichi and it was published for four volumes. After the end of his last manga, he created Soul Eater, still for Square Enix's Gangan magazine, which brought him worldwide success.

Let it be sung throughout the land that Medusa is one of the best anime/manga villains by pure virtue of not being the stereotypical over the top, cartoonishly evil villain. She has motive, she has a plan, she's ruthless, and she's got the skills to back up her villainy. While I wouldn't say she's the best/most well-written villain, she feels like an actual villain that I would be scared off rather than a ridiculous caricature of what evil is.

I also want to take this opportunity to praise Lord Death for being an interesting mentor/leader figure. I know he doesn't get a whole lot of time to shine, but the brief moments we get show that he's a good leader who puts on a goofy facade for the kids, but is an absolute badass underneath it. I also just love how invested he is in taking care of the DWMA students, especially in wanting to preserve the peace he sacrificed so much for. You can tell he knows that these kids are the future and they'll have to fight horrific entities, but he still wants them to have peaceful times and to be kids. Great dad and leader, 10/10.

Stein and Spirit make such an incredible duo and their fight with Medusa was incredible. Seeing Spirit become so angry over Medusa's treatment of Crona and dismissive attitude towards them raised my opinion of him. Speaking of Crona, their fight with Maka was so, so fucking dope. You can tell Ohkubo went all out with this fight and had a blast with it. This is the fight that has stuck with me the most since watching the anime as a kid, probably because its the most emotional one so far. And you feel those emotions; sadness, anger, frustration, fear, everything is on display in this fight. Its resolution was one of the most interesting and heartwarming and begins the growing bond between Maka and Crona.

This was an intense, emotional volume that kept me enraptured to the very end. Love this series, love it so much.

The artist clearly has a weakness when it comes to human anatomy. You can even see it on the front cover. Just look at that hand 0_o
The background art in this volume is incredible tho. Really beautiful stuff. Atsushi is great with perspective, including the way he uses very extreme perspective on his characters in a dramatic and carefree way.

Fantastic. Everything hits the fan in here, and if it weren’t for that weird scene in the middle with the mouse witch and magic cat groping each other, it would be a full 5 stars.

that fight with maka and crona nearly brought me to tears in school >< that was one of the most emotional battles i’ve ever seen in media, god it was heartwrenching, crona is truly one of the most misunderstood characters, having been through so much trauma and abuse from their own mother, seeing maka reach in past all the walls they’ve put up to truly care for them and offer friendship EEEK it was just so adorable :( may they be the bestest of friends! definitely my favorite arc and maybe most favorite soul eater volume of all time?

Ya vamos dejando atrás el toque cómico y entrando en partes de la historia que tocan temas profundos, como el miedo, personaje principal de la trama. Miedo a la muerte, miedo a la soledad, miedo al fracaso, son algunos de los que se nos presentan. Y nuestros protagonistas tendrán que superarlos. Si tuviera algo de lo que quejarme, sería de que algunas reflexiones o ciertos sucesos son complejos de entender, en parte supongo que porque proceden de la locura, y esta en sí es incomprensible.

Things got pretty tense there towards the end.
Of course forbidden power is tapped into here, and the bad guys win this battle. Action stayed pretty consistent. It's gonna get worse before it gets better
