Food for thought: Everyone has problems and issues they need to work through, and nobody is immune. It reminds me of the quote from Plato: Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle. There are successful people who will settle for nothing short of success. When they fail - they work and they plan and they overcome. Money cannot bring you happiness, but it can provide you with things that you can enjoy and can provide you with the opportunity to share abundantly with others. When we travel we often need a road map to find the best way to travel. This book is a spiritual road map to find happiness as we travel down the road of life.

I don't think you will find any startling revelations in this free/low cost offering in e-book format but you will find some very useful reminders. For those of you that are uncomfortable with 'new age" religion I think you will still find the suggestions helpful. New age or Eastern beliefs are not critical to what the author has to share with us as the suggestions transcend those beliefs, I tend to think of them as helpful reminders and I found myself highlighting some of her suggestions. This is an e-book you can consume in one setting or sample from time to time as I did. I think both work for what she has to offer.
I really liked this book and the timing for reading it couldn't have been better. This for me was a confirmation that I am not selfish, that I can help and support family or friends, but that my own happiness comes first. This is a book that I will read over and over again. Life is good :)
After reading this one, I felt like everything is so simple. It made me realize a lot of things about how one's life should be lived. The tips are practical and useful unlike other self help books which offer tips that are hard to attain.
This book served as a simple reminder, of things most of the time I miss out on, I took for granted or I failed to recognize. This book encourages you to reach for your dreams. I know it's cliche but with this book, it feels like everything is possible. All this time, it's just up to you to make it happen.
I enjoyed this book. Even though it was short, it had a lot of helpful advice. Most of the things were already well-known. However, some information was brought about in an original manner. It was well-written and helpful.
This was an easy to read self help book that I received for free. I voluntarily chose to review it. I've given it a 4* rating. I will say that you need to want to do this for this success to happen. Many of the suggestions are very common sense but not necessarily easy to follow. For someone who wants to work at this, this would be a real good starting point.
This book is going to stay in my rotation of repeat reads. It reminds me that we can't necessarily schedule our lives, as well as several other points. It is a joy to read Jennifer's writing style. I look forward to more of her books.
Reading this book reminded me how to control my thinking and look for the positive in everything. I realized I waste too much energy thinking about changes I do not control.
A self-help book with a spiritual approach to personal growth and happiness. Along with the spiritual perspective, and the practical guidance, this book has a positive message. It highlights the power of positive thinking, forgiveness, and compassion as a basis for creating a happier and more fulfilling life.
If you know me and/or have read much of anything I've written lately, you know that I have been studying JOY and all things to do with joy and happiness, so (and as a Christian) choosing to read Jennifer O'Neill's THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS: 21 SPIRITUAL RULES TO SUCCESS was a no-brainer (especially I got it for my Kindle for next to nothing). I would give the book more than 3 stars if the author wasn't a psychic. The title includes the word "spiritual," so as a Christian, I was thinking of "spiritual" in terms of the Christian faith. Thus I was disappointed when I realized, about halfway through the book, that Jennifer is a well-known psychic. Normally I do a little research on authors before I read a book by a new, unknown (for me) author, but this time, I was so drawn to the title (and the sunflower on the cover) that I didn't bother learning anything at all about the author. As a woman of faith, I am not happy to learn that Jennifer is a psychic. With that being said, though, Jennifer doesn't write this book with psychic overtones--such that would (or could) offend a person of the Christian faith. She writes it simply about real life and the real way to spiritual happiness. I find no fault with the way she wrote the book or with what she says in the book. In fact, I'm sure I will not only refer to Jennifer's book often, but that I will definitely re-read it every couple of months, at least. Her "spiritual rules to success" ring true and I know that everything she says makes absolute perfect sense. If we all pursued happiness as Jennifer suggests, the world certainly would be a brighter, happier, sun-shiney place full of shining, happy people!!!!
I try to think of myself as less religious and more spiritual as I grow in my faith and walk with Christ. For me though, "spiritual" does mean related to faith in God (even if your view of God may be a bit different than mine). Therefore, when I read the title of this book (a freebie through Amazon) and looked at the chapters and the fact that each one was titled as a "spiritual rule", I really and truly thought this would be based on Scripture. As my husband pointed out to me when I complained to him about the book, this was my own fault. I do understand that many people consider the spiritual realm to be real but they still do that without belief in God. They believe in their own abilities, nature, universal laws, etc., and that is what this book was based on.
Even though it was my own fault that I didn't understand the angle this book was coming from, I still give it only two stars. The majority of this was simply common sense. I realize a lot of people don't have a lot of that, but this book simply promoted making decisions that make you happy, not being a victim to situations, doing things you enjoy, love people, etc. For someone facing a time of depression or hardship, this book might be beneficial to get him/her out of such a lowly place. It may give a person hope that things can be better. For someone that somewhat has his/her life in order though, this isn't very useful. I didn't disagree with anything the author said, but I feel like I could have written this book myself. It just didn't bring anything new to the table for me.
The Pursuit of Happiness: 21 Spiritual Rules to Succeed by Jennifer O’Neill—wrote this book as a guide to help its readers focus on developing a state of Happiness. O’Neill does this by expounding on 21 Spiritual Rules. These 21 rules are not a new discovery but are ideas that the reader have previously been exposed to. The concept that comes across most and should be reinforced is that each individual is in control of their destiny or happiness, but, each individual must know who they are. By the process of self-reflection on one’s life and through each of these 21 rules a plan of action can be generated to move one into control of their success and thereby their happiness. What wasn’t really emphasized by Ms. O’Neill is the important role of self-talk in this process. Reading this book was a quick read and a pleasant one. The information gleaned should be used in generating a balance of one's mental, physical, social and emotional planes.
The advice are good although there are often no solutions provided: "just do it!". I think it was in chapter one where addiction was mentioned. Addiction usually have powerful psychological barriers to overcome in order to stop. Just saying not to do it is not that helpful.
Also she seems to be very goal-oriented, personally I prefer to live by values rather than goals.
Still I think it was decent, and there was several things in I had had to think about. Add to that the fact that I got the Kindle edition very cheap.
I read this book with the sincere hope of better understanding the correlation between happiness and success. To some extent the author accomplished this objective with both insight and intuitive clarity. I did however, find myself drifting thoughtlessly at times, from dialect similar to previous renditions of this topic. I would recommend this book as a primary source of comprehending the concepts that intertwine the topic and the factors that influence their relationship.
This book is more of a reminder than a guide. Some helpful not so preachy platitudes can be found in its pages, as well as some exercises to reinforce positivity---but nothing earth shattering. I normally give 3 stars for an average book, but I give this one two due to the overuse of exclamation points (You too can be happy! It's a choice! Choose happy! ) and for the bad advice of boycotting the news...To me, willful ignorance does not equal happy.
I am a firm believer that everyone on Earth can benefit from reading "The Pursuit of Happiness: 21 Spiritual Rules to Success." The rules are simple, concentrated, and overflowing with purpose and promise. This book has taught me so much about myself, my power, what I want to accomplish in life, and how to achieve it all! I am officially inspired and equipped to become my ultimate, happy self! Thank you, Jennifer O'Neill!
This book rely opened my eyes about happiness. So many of the points made in this book were how I viewed happiness, but after reading it I see how of based my view of happiness was. Now I am going to be more focused on seeing happiness in everything and so living in a poverty mind set.
FANTASTIC BOOK! It is short, nicely written and provides amazing lessons to apply to our daily lives. When you feel at a crossroads in life, read this book carefully and make highlights or notes so you can refer back to them. Excellent life coach, the author Jennifer O'Neill has written a wise, practical book and highly recommended.
