Moonstruck #1

Blood Moon

Rate this book
Army Major Hannah Jackson knows where the skeletons are hidden at the Pentagon and now she’s been tasked with keeping the secrets of Army Special Sci Ops Unit 69 — the Wolves — and their secret is a doozy. That a civilian corporation wants to exploit the Wolves is a matter of pressing concern.

Sergeant Major Ian McIntire doesn’t trust Hannah as far as he can throw her — and that’s quite a ways considering he’s an alpha werewolf. The woman is a pain in his butt and with the Blood Moon coming, the unit needs to complete their mission and get home before tempers flare. While she might know most of their secrets, the one she doesn’t know about the moonstruck Wolf might just get them all killed.

When a covert operation goes wrong, Mac must trust Hannah to save his men — and his heart. Secrets, lies, and betrayals are more personal under the full moon, but when a Wolf loves a woman, he’ll do whatever it takes to keep her safe.

Warning: Pursue an alpha Wolf at your own risk. Hot sex, bad words, and action of the blood and guts kind will ensue.

This novella started off so well...and then went to total shit. In the beginning we're introduced to sexy Alpha among Alphas, Mac and the sexy, capable, strong-willed Hannah. Everything was looking good. I was loving the narrative predominantly from Mac's POV and thrilled to be reading about a heroine who was competing on par and impressing all the type A, military men. You go girl!

Then about 25% through the book the sexual tension cranked up and Hannah's IQ dropped by about 50 points, as did her sense of balance and calm. All of a sudden she was scared and crying every 10 minutes, stumbling over tree roots (where before Mac had been impressed with her ability to soldier on unaided), and bordering on hysterics for all of the rest of the story. And no, for the record, just because he tells her repeatedly that she's strong and resilient doesn't actually make her so. It's condescending and pat.

I get that she had a bit of a shock. Totally get that. But why did she have to become so very weak in order for his masculinity to come through? He would still have been plenty manly even if she didn't fall to pieces. I sure didn't see any of the men crying over a little gun fight.

The story also felt very much like the middle of a longer piece. There is obvious history with Hannah and her job with the military and the Wolves' need to rescue Torjak. Then there is a lot left unexplored on the return to Virginia. Not once did Mac and Hannah manage a normal, rational conversation about their future. I would have liked to know how that was addressed.

I had a hard time looking past hannah's crumbling facade. It ruined the story for me. But I did find that I liked the writing style a lot. The POVs shifted a bit too quickly at times, but that was easily looked over. I also thought the basic structure of the world Silver James created was interesting. It was only thinly sketched out, but I saw the possibility of some entertaining future books in it. I'd be willing to give another one of her stories a shot.

I stumbled upon this book by accident, and I'm glad I did! While its a quick read, only took a couple hours, it packed quite a punch. I can't wait for the next two to come out!

We start with the two main characters en route to their meeting point with the rest of the group. Hannah has proven herself to be strong, capable and resilient. Mac is impressed, even though he doesn't want to be. These two butt heads frequently and I loved the repartee between them.

It is well written with the fast pace you would expect from a novella, however the ending is quite abrupt. Also, although I obviously know nothing about being pregnant with a werewolf, I did find it slightly amusing that within an hour of them having sex, she was throwing up with 'morning sickness'.

On the whole, an enjoyable paranormal novella with potential for the series.

The narrative flops back and forth from Hannah to Mac without warning. In the same chapter.

Hannah started off so strong and then 25% into the book, she's a crying mess. I was so confused. So confused. Then I was confused about her not wanting to be left alone. That's never really fleshed out. Mate or not, I would have left her in the desert to die.

Mac was your typical Alpha male who beat his chest and pi$$ed on everything. Over reacts at the drop of a hat if another male looks at Hannah. UGH! I love Alpha males. I love secure Alpha males. Not a teenager playing at one.

I hardly felt any chemistry between Hannah and Mac. It was more about breeding for him since the blood moon was getting close. And she smelled good. YEAH!

The mission they were on was a mess too. Hannah wasn't field combat-ready, yet there she was. Honestly, she was nothing more than a glorified accountant walking behind a soldier.

There are better shifter/paranormal books out there.

I had bought and read this book quite a few years ago and remember enjoying it then. I am tidying up my books and redoing missing reviews.
Great to see this series has since ben added too, as there were only a few books at the time I first found this series.
Enjoyable read with interesting and addicting characters. Though this plot that has since been done to death, I believe Ms James was one of the first with the evil corporation idea of changing/mixing soldiers DNA with shifters.
Even though Hannah starts off extremely strong, she does become a bit wimpy later on. But I could understand this happening due to what she goes through and pregnancy hormones.
I will be rereading this series and am happy to see there are now a lot more books that tie in to this original series.

Interesting concept...a stealh ops Army unit made up of werewolves. This is a quick read and it seemed to be an introduction to the team members. Major Hannah Jackson is one tough cookie. She's incredibly intelligent and no quitter. She's there to ensure that the team remains a secret. Sergeant Major Ian McIntire recognizes that this woman is his mate. Having her as part of the mission does not sit well with him. Now he must protect his woman and complete his mission.

I read another book from this author and like it so I figured I'll see what else she has out there. This did not work for me, there was 2 or 3 or 19 things that really really did not work for me. Glad this wasn't my first read from this author I still plan at looking at other books she has written.

new to me

This was a new author to me and I have to say this will not be the last one I will read. I am a sucker for a shifter in the service and this meets that. Alpha male and a strong independent woman who gives orders and takes no crap. I have to have a happily ever after so I was happy with the story. Can’t wait to get started on the next one.

I really enjoyed this romance novella. A quick, easy read but kept my interest. There was romance and action. The heroine fought against the “Love at first sight” which was refreshing. Can’t wait to read the sequel!

I’ve been a fan of Silver’s since I read her very first book Faeire Fire. I’m also lucky enough to be able to claim Silver as a friend, so I was super excited when she told me she had plans to self-pub her next series of books. I was given an early copy of Blood Moon to read, and bought a copy for my kindle as soon as it was available.

I was a fan of Hannah’s from the very beginning. I also really loved Mac and his friends. Mac is ready to get rid of Hannah from pretty much the moment she shows up, but she does earn his respect by taking everything he throws at her and not giving up. Mac and Hannah are both such strong characters, although I don’t think Hannah realized in the beginning how strong she really was. Mac is a total Alpha, both as a man and a wolf. He knows he is becoming moonstruck by Hannah and knows she is his mate and that if they make love now, she will become pregnant. Even knowing they are in the middle of a major op, he can’t resist the pull to Hannah. The chemistry between them is sizzling, and the fact their first time together was in a cave took nothing from the heat factor.

Mac and Hannah are a great couple. Not that everything is easy for them. Mac is worried about Hannah being near the op, Hannah is freaking out about the mating, and nothing can be settled until the op is finished.

Blood Moon was an action-packed, fun and sexy read. It is currently available for purchase from Amazon and is even on sale for $.99 for the first week. After that, it will be back to the regular price of $1.99. The next two books in the Moonstruck Trilogy are currently set for release in June and July. I highly recommend reading this series to all who love sexy Alpha men.

I loved this book! Hannah and Mac are both strong and sexy characters. When Mac meets Hannah he thinks she is there to mess with his special ops wolf team, but its the oppisite. She is there to help them.

They both are having strong feelings for each other and are fighting it. Hannah is his superior and she thinks Mac hates her. He is impressed with how she can keep up with the pace he set and how strong she is. He leaves her sleeping an scouts the area when Hannah wakes she thinks he left her on purpose. As she realizes that he didn't she gets attacked by 6 men. Mac realizes she is in danger and all he can think of his protecting his MATE. Then he doesn't understand why he thought mate but has no time to worry about that he needs to save Hannah. He kills 2 as he comes in and takes out he rest but she was wrong their are 7 men and she comes face to face with a gun. Mac rips his head off and cradles her when its over. He gets her to the cave with the rest of the unit as soon as he can to get her medical attention, but then he is very aggressive to his guys when it comes to Hannah. He wants no one touching her or near her. He's Moonstruck!

Hannah is confused at how Mac acts caring one minute and an Alpha ass the next. He falls hard for her and the heat between them is amazing but things happen and she could rip Mac's head off. Of course its not his fault wolfs have sensitive noses and can tell everything that happened between Hannah and Mac. Hannah gets embarrassed and says things to Mac in the heat of the moment that sets him off. Will they work it out.

I loved this book! Its a must read for any werewolf fan!

I really like this series. I think this one was free or 99 cents on Amazon when I started it. It combines two of my favorites, elite military + shifters! How can you go wrong? The length of this and the following books are perfect for my reading style. That is to say once I start a book I like I find it hard to stop reading until I finish. Which means I either end up ordering pizza for dinner, or stay up way to late reading! But this one is a novella ~80 pages and in fact all in the series are under 150 pages so easy to devour in one day without shirking all other responsibilities.

There were a few things about the missions and the hero and heroine's back ground that could have been delved into further. But overall it moved right along, with just the right dose of heat and action. My only other issue is that Hannah's character is portrayed a little differently in subsequent books than in this novella, but the series spans over 10 years...so I guess I can chalk it up to people changing.
Highly recommend - great story & series.

Cross the military with werewolves and this book is what you get. The characters are unique and well written.

Major Hannah Jackson is from the Inspector General division and is temporarily attached to the Army Sci Ops Unit 69 to determine if this group is to be retained by the military or be handed over to civilians.

Sergeant Major Ian "Mac" McIntire is so not happy about this. She is in the way and slowing his team down. He is also an Alpha male werewolf in his team of werewolves. He is intensely attracted to the Major.

Mac and Hannah are fighting their attraction to each other and they have to reach their target objective to take down an enemy base anyway. Mac's resistance wanes as the Blood Moon gets closer. He can't get her out of his head and the wolf in him wants her for a mate. How can he resist?

This is first in a series, but I was not disappointed in the story. I am excited to read the next one!

I really liked the beginning of this tale. The men were hot, alpha, and military, some of my favorite characters out there. The female MC was strong, capable, and determined. Yay! But what kept this from being a 5 star review was the head-hopping after the second chapter. And once the characters had sex, the female MC lost all her strength, capability, and determination. I wondered where the "take-no-shit" Major had gone. Fortunately, Ms. James is a strong enough storyteller to allow me to enjoy the book even with those difficulties (for me). It's a great beginning to the series and I've already started reading the next one.

Sizzling hot quick read

This made for the perfect afternoon read. It’s a fast paced 82 pages of some serious sexual tension. A touch of erotic in my sense (not lots of sex here, but plenty of lust) Story was exciting and held my interest. I wasn’t a fan of the ending, but I expect other books in this series to add more closure/details of Mac and Hannah's status.

I would ideally rate this a 4.5 star book, but I'm going to round it up to a 5 star review on Amazon since I got this as a freebie at the time.

How much did I pay: free
Would I recommend: for a freebie, or low price buy absolutely
Will I read more by this writer: yes

Great read!

Really enjoyed the characters! Loved how strong and sexy Mac, and Hannah were, loved their connection to each other! Even when none f it made sense and scared her she knew they were connected!

I only wished the book was longer! Would love to know more of their story. Did they hae a pup? Did they stay together forever and how has Hannah done with their world? I only hope the answer will come with the other books in the series! I am looking forward to reading them!

Great, fun read that kept me turning the pages until I finished the book!

Good read with some biological errors that about drove me nuts.

People! It can take 2-3 days from release of sperm until fertilization of egg. From there it is another 9 days until fertilized egg implants in the uterus and you are "pregnant". She is not going to be be instantly preggers. She could be quickly fertilized but her hormones don't really start changing until that darn egg implants.

Having her exhibit a whole host of pregnancy symptoms hours after the dirty deed is distracting.

Great start to a new series and I enjoyed the characters featured. However, I was rather disappointed with the rather abrupt ending. I did see a comment though about extended versions coming out this fall and wish I would have known that before I purchased all three books just tonight. Ah well, live and learn, right? Anyways, good work. Look forward to reading the others and the extended ones this fall.

Hot
military
wolf shifters

I enjoyed this saucy, alpha oozing, short story. Had the makings for a great novel and I likely would have went with four stars had it not been for the ending. Nothing pisses me off more than for a book to end at like the 80 something percent but then add to the fact that it was just cut off like that, so abrupt, three is the best I can do. Unfortunately. I really wanted more but not sure I will continue with this series.

Far too short, but really very good. The strong Alpha to the spirited female made the story interesting and exciting, with strong sub characters adding diversity and variety. I loved the writing style, which I thought had attitude while maintaining a solid story all round. Like i say though, fat too short...I was left wanting that little bit more.

Excellent first book in this new series by Silver James. I love the world she's created from the old werewolf myth. And the characters are awesome. I cannot wait for the next installment of this trilogy (and here's hoping she goes way beyond just three books).

I really loved the idea behind this book and the series. But I was sorely disappointed that there was hardly, and I mean they hardly had sex. So if you are looking for a really hot and steamy book. This aint it. BUT, it was the short novella intro. Im buying the sequel and giving it another go.
