This was really decent at giving a general overview of Brazil, and I learnt a lot, considering that I know absolutely nothing about Brazil, which I think was the issue, because it feels like the author expects you to know something about Brazil and this book builds on something you already know, however, I didn't have the building block.
For instance, it talks about all these scandals that happen in politics that have these knock on effects within the parties, but doesn't elaborate on anything beyond the word "scandals". Am I meant to know what they're talking about already? Or are the scandals unimportant? In which case, why keep mentioning them?
Left me a bit confused. It doesn’t go into detail about the scandals that have shaped Brazil’s current political sphere well enough. While the book talked about the deforestation efforts under Bolsonaro and the environmental devastation. It didn’t go into how the populations were exploited as well. Overall, an alright source for beginning to understand the country.
