Now employed by the Magical Liaison Office, Fi wants a big case, but she learns to be careful what she wishes for when a mummified body turns up on the village green.
How can she crack the case in time to stop a demon entering the mortal realm and save her niece? And will she sort out her feelings for a tall, dark and handsome doctor with links to the god of death?
If Jessica Fletcher worked in IT, lived in an English village and had magic, you'd get this book.
If you like cozy British settings, sarcasm and witches, you'll enjoy this series.
Written in UK English.
G Clatworthy started writing during the 2020 lockdown (her first book was called The Girl Who Lost Her Listening Ears, which tells you all you need to know about lockdown!). She soon switched to urban fantasy and she loves mixing the magical with the mundane, especially if it involves dragons! She lives in Wiltshire, UK with her family and two cats. When she's not writing, she enjoys playing board games, drinking tea and eating chocolate.
I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.
Again Gemma has created a great slice of cosy urban fantasy.
For those unfamiliar to the series (and I recommend you read the first two books), the story follows Fi, a young witch who isn't always in the greatest control of her powers, as she navigates her way around her quaint rural village, which by this book has a rapidly rising body count lol.
The characters are endearing and I am enjoying tracking Fi's growth, especially in this book (I'm keeping this spoiler free!).
There isn't any crazy violence or gore, just a nice read with a great plot, fun characters and a nice dose of magic and the supernatural!
I recommend enjoying this with a slice of cake and cup of tea.
Another cozy paranormal mystery! This one is a little more violent than the others, but nothing too horrible or gory. Fi is having some training done with the MLO for her new position where she gets to understand her magic more and maybe learn a thing or two channeling her magic without destroying everything. She also gets some investigating experience when Detective Ladd, rather reluctantly, takes her with him when the attack happens. It was fun having her put the pieces together and make progress on harnessing her magic! It's a fun, short read with some development for Fi's personal life and some growth for her career. It can read in about one afternoon with a cuppa! It's clean (albeit with murder), with no swearing or gory detailed violence.
😈Donkeys and Demons😈 Book 3 of The Omensford Series by Gemma Clatworthy
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Stars
This is the third book in Gemma's ✨The Omensford Series✨ and it had me at the title, honestly.
Of course, there's a ☠️ but this time Fi is a Community Agent for the Magical Liaison's Office so she teams with Detective Ledd - the detective who suspected her of the first death in Book 1, you might remember - to solve the case.
Only the case isn't that simple, and to be fair, only Fi and the Detective are that keen to solve what becomes the ☠️ of two very unlikable souls in Omensford. That is, until the kids of the town, including Bea, Fi's niece suddenly start taking ill.
It's a whirlwind from there as Fi and Cressida solve the case with some help from the handsome Mort and Detective Ledd.
All ends well, thankfully, because there's a Book 4, and because I really love these characters.
As always, the banter between Fi and Cressida is awesome, and the begrudging respect that they're building for each other is adorable 💕
The glimpse of the official Magical Liaison Office when Fi goes in for training makes for a really interesting adventure as well. I'm definitely curious about what goes on there!
I also loved that we still heard from Effie as she traveled the world, that warmed my heart 🥰
Perhaps the best bit though, is being there as Fi starts to see her power as a good part of herself and not as some fearful, destructive aspect she can't control. l'm so excited to see where she goes from here with it!
As usual, Gemma's writing was on point and it was a delightful read, so there's really only one thing to do ...
G Clatworthy has done it again and produced another wonderful and entertaining read! Fi, our heroine, is bright, inventive (who else would think to ride on a vacuum cleaner rather a broom!) and witty with an excellent sense of the ridiculous. Somehow murders keep happening around her, and in her new job attached to the Magical Liaison Office it is now up to her to solve them! If you love any classic whodunnit but have often wished that their settings could include witches, werewolves and demons then look no further! These books are the modern Miss Marple stories we’ve all longed for with a little romance thrown in too! I genuinely cannot recommend this series enough!
I can’t believe it — Clatworthy wrote an event better third book in this series! I was genuinely hooked into the mystery, and I read at every spare moment, eager to see whether my suspicions would be confirmed. I also enjoyed the effort the author put in to make the mystery real-feeling, and I liked how Fiona’s powers were the key. As a whole, Fiona seemed to grow as a character, and I finally felt vindicated in thinking her powers over electricity would be useful. Finally, the romance is so promising!
I can’t wait for the next book! Yay for British magical murder mysteries!
3.5 stars. Fi has just started her job with the Magical Liaison Office when a murder happens in Omensford. So, she joins the local detective in working to solve the crime, while co ringing to learn the extent of—and how to control—her electricity powers.
Effie is still enjoying her travels away from town, but Fi’s mom (Nell), her sister (Agatha), and the handsome local doctor (Mort), appear in this installment.
Another great story starring Fi and her friends and family as well as her familiar Cressida. It might sound strange to have a humorous murder mystery but the author manages to blend the two together expertly. A great read and leaves you smiling at the end.
MC Fi and Lady Cressida deal with donkeys and demons and a killer’s misguided attempts to help those “deserving of protection” while being uncaring about the harm caused to others. The slow burn romance also continues. Recommended!
