The monk Hakuin prayed that his first meeting with the demon Fuyu would be his last. Now it seems his destiny is to partner with the demon for life. His only advantage is the fact that Fuyu is desperately in love with him. Hakuin will use this to make sure they do good together. That’s the only reason he stays with Fuyu, after all. It’s certainly not because he’s starting to reciprocate Fuyu’s feelings...right? Hakuin and Fuyu seek a famous healer to mend Kyoko’s eye, but he only works for the royalty of his village. If they want his services then Fuyu has to put on a magic show for the prince.
There’s no way Fuyu will let himself be so degraded by mortals.

I still don´t like the story - there´s too much rape to have any empathy with ANYONE in this.
The only one I like is Hakuin (one of the rape victims of Fuyu, who KEEPS sexually assaultin him). Just... why would anyone write this?
The art is getting better in the main story but in the one about the incubbus it sucked again. (The incubbus is also a rapist now. Great. Just wonderful. -.-)
God, I need to rethink my Manga collection when I have shit like this in it.

I enjoyed the first volume of Winter Demon very much. This volume, while still enjoyable, just wasn't as good. I think perhaps because the story was less serious. Fuyu and Hakuin are escorting a sick friend to find a doctor. Fuyu isn't happy to be doing so and is even more unhappy to be charged with entertaining a child in order to gain the doctor's services. I think the purpose of this volume was for Fuyu to discover the true horror his rape caused Hakuin, but the surrounding "plot" was too weak to give the moment it's due gravity. Still, it made the point and began the change in Fuyu that will continue. The "action" in the story is decidedly derailed by the scene, but Fuyu becomes more tender toward Hakuin after that.
I like these characters and will certainly orderr volume 3, but hope that volume get back on the track set by Volume 1. Recommended.
Fuyu’s feelings for Hakuin continue to grow although he retains much of his aggressive nature when dealing with other humans. There is humor and tension here as Fuyu learns to proceed slowly with his reluctant travelling companion and Hakuin strives to protect the demon from those who would exploit him.
As in volume one, there are additional stories, one showing more in the story of Figaru the incubus and his shy woodcutter lover that he befriended. The drawings are by a different illustrator and make Figaru and his lover less muscular than previously shown, a change that isn’t to my taste. Now Ichiru looks like a scrawny teenager and Figaru has acquired a kind of effeminate look that's at odds with his original powerful frame.
I didn't think much of this manga at first glance, but I am happy I was proved wrong! Its funny, endearing, dramatic, cute, sad and sexy! The artwork is simple, but expressive, just like the story telling style and dialogue. I'm totally hooked on Hakuin and Fuyu, they're adorable. I'm furious with Ichiro though, how could he just walk out on Figaru like that, without even a backward glance? No wonder the villagers didn't like him! I see the two story-lines cross paths in the next volume - I can't wait!
